About this property

Cozy Family Log Cabin - 3/4 Mile to Mt Snow

This log cabin was built in 1974, on land that has been in my family for many generations and abuts the Green Mountain National Forest and Mt. Snow. The cabin is situated on over 50 acres of private property, most of which is undeveloped and has conservation easements. There are endless opportunities for exploring the woods. It is about 3/4 mile from Mt. Snow and on the MOO-VER shuttle bus line.
We love our cabin, and it has many personal items, including original artwork and antiques, many books, comfortable-but-not-all-new furniture, and many games, puzzles and kids toys. This is not your typical rental cabin. This cabin is ideal for a family or for a quiet retreat by a single or couple, or two couples/families. Whether you enjoy hiking, skiing, star-gazing by an outdoor campfire, making meals together, sitting on the porch with a favorite novel, or curled up by the fireplace playing monopoly – this is the place for you. This house is also an ideal artist’s retreat, with six generations of family artwork sprinkled about.
Please be aware:
• There is no TV
• There is no dishwasher
• There is high speed wireless internet service
• There is cell phone coverage
Amenities include:
• One bedroom downstairs with two single beds
• One “study” downstairs, with a single bed
• One “dormer” bedroom upstairs, with a queen bed
• One spacious master bedroom upstairs with a king
• Two bathrooms – one upstairs, one down
• Two porches – one entry, one for outdoor living: including Adirondack chairs, a hammock and outdoor speakers
• A full kitchen and dining room
• A cozy living room with vaulted ceiling and balcony
• A fireplace, with logs supplied
• A radio, and CD player, and laptop computer for viewing DVDs
• An iPOD deck/speaker player (bring your own iPOD or iPhone)
• A full basement and a washer/dryer
• Sleds and snowshovels
• A telephone in the kitchen for emergency and local calls only
• A Webber charcoal grill on the utility porch for BBQ’ing.

The Rea Family Log Cabin is located on the mountain side Handle Road, on over 50 acres of private property, with conservation easements. Whatever the season, this is an ideal location for exploring the woods. There are old logging roads that can be explored, a brook behind the house, etc. There are no well-maintained trails behind the house – so bring your hiking boots or snow shoes! I find these woods very easy to hike in – even for young children. They are beautifully green and mossy and there are no hazards to speak of. It’s a wonderful place to find a special rock, or pick up a hiking stick, find newts, climb up a mountain brook, or build a fairy house in the moss. In the autumn, these woods light up with glorious colors – truly a sight to behold. In the winter, it’s a wonderful place to explore off-trail snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.

The house will be clean and ready for you when you arrive, with clean sheets and towels laid out for you. Bath soap and shampoo are supplied. All paper products are supplied. There are extra blankets in every bedroom, and extra sheets and towels in marked bins and in the downstairs hall closet. There are emergency first aid supplies in the bathrooms.

Perfect winter long weekend get away

This was our first trip as a blended family and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay! Less than a mile to Mt Snow and a huge yard the kids could play in. We have a 14 year old teenager, 10 year old tween and 7 year old slugger. Everyone had their own room and we spent so much quality time together. No one even asked about a TV!!! We will DEFINATELY be back next season.

Best Ever

We truly can't say enough good things about our stay in this lovely cabin. It had everything we needed, was super clean, extremely cozy, the kitchen was well stocked with gear to cook almost anything you wanted, washer and dryer were a huge plus, plenty of space and the overall feel of the cabin just made you want to stay longer to appreciate all the artwork that the owner has on display. The beautiful creek is only a short walk out the back door. The cabin sits back off the road so it really feels like you're deep in the woods. We booked so we could snowboard Mt. Snow and couldn't have asked for a closer spot. Only three minutes from door to lodge! We are looking forward to booking again next year!

Weekend getaway

I recently stayed at this great log cabin with a few 30 something year old professionals who were looking for a quick getaway from NY. The cabin was in excellent condition and fit 8 of us very comfortably. All linens and toiletries were provided as well as an abundance of firewood. Wifi included but no tv (which would be my only recommendation for the owners). This cabin was in a perfect location set back from the road and very private. It was about a 5 minute drive door to base of Mount snow, most of which was through the parking lots. We were very happy with this stay despite the rain and would recommend this location to anyone who is looking to get up to Mount Snow. We definitely plan on staying again.

The Log Cabin

The log cabin was classic Vermont and very close to Mt. Snow. We had some plumbing issues that I fixed and a resident squirrel that showed up one morning on the balcony that was not a problem. Otherwise we had a great time.

Great place to relax

Cabin was exactly as pictured. Lots of privacy, but plenty to explore close by if you choose. Spent most of our time sitting on the porches watching leaves fall or snuggled by the fireplace. The owner, Maria is awesome! Answered any questions we had before arriving. Thanks for the opportunity to re-charge for a couple days in your cozy artist's cabin!

Spacious and Cozy

Maria’s cabin was as advertised—great location, comfortable and warm, more room than we needed. It is a real, rustic cabin, which we enjoyed as we gathered around the fire.

Great getaway.

My family and I had a lovely stay. Home was clean, well-appointed and close to local hiking trails. We did have a toddler with us and because of the construction of the home you can hear people walking around upstairs (or babies crying in the night!). Otherwise, I would highly recommend.

Many years of love and care went into this home

My family loved the cabin and enjoyed all the special touches that made it feel like a classic log home in Vermont. Everything was as described. Thank you for a wonderful weekend.

The most cozy and authentic Vermont experience!

We rented the Rae cabin with 2 other couples in their early-mid 30s and we absolutely loved our stay! It is exactly what we had in mind and is the quintessential rustic log cabin experience. Do not expect frills and luxury, this is a traditional log home built in the 70s. It was perfectly comfortable, charming and very convenient to the slopes/shopping. We loved the games, lincoln logs, wood burning fireplace, loft and vaulted ceilings. We will definitely recommend and look forward to staying here again when we ski Mt Snow.

Charming woodsy cabin with lots of character!

Absolutely loved our stay in Maria's log cabin. It is a cozy, authentic log cabin in a beautiful area. It was perfect for 3 couples looking for a quiet getaway. We enjoyed drinking wine in front of the fire place and skiing at Mt Snow (right down the road, so close!). The only thing we would have done differently is brought plastic cups / plates since there is no dishwasher, which can get challenging with a group. Other than that, we enjoyed a perfect stay and can't wait to come back next year!

Charming Cabin in Perfect Location

We loved our stay at this warm and inviting cabin. It's the quintessential, old fashioned Vermont cottage. The exposed logs and big fireplace were so nice to come home to after a day at Mount Snow, which is about two minutes down the street. This is a great place for a family getaway.

Even better second time

We rented this cabin with 2 other couples for the second year in a row and loved it even more this time. We were greeted by the familiar and rustic sights and smells of property, which brought back great memories of our last visit. We spent most of our indoor time between the living room/roaring fireplace and the dining room, enjoying the peace and quite. I work in the tech industry, so 4 days without a laptop and tv were a welcome respite (although we did use the wifi to stream an NFL game!) We hiked at Mt Snow and explored the woods behind the cabin for hours, making fantastic new memories. There were some upgrades from our visit last year which made it even more comfortable. All 3 of us couples can't wait to return next fall and would recommend this cabin for any season!

A Perfect Log Cabin

Our group drove up from Philly for a three night weekend. The cabin was comfortable and cozy. We had the fire place kicking in the living space and spent most evenings around the dining room table. The cabin does not have a TV which was perfect. Although, the wifi was helpful once and a while. All in all, a great change of pace and I'd highly recommend for the VT experience in any season.

cute log cabin - great for a ski weekend

This cabin is exactly as advertised. It is very close to Mount Snow and convenient to restaurants on Rte 100. It is indeed old, but functional. The kitchen area is well stocked with all necessities, with a nice dining area. The living space has a fireplace that is supplied with both logs and firestarters for you. The negatives are that the furniture is both old and not very well set up for a large group to sit in the living 'room'. There is a couch and coffee table and then there are a few chairs set up in the corners of the room. The biggest negative for us was that the house is very dark. The lighting is mainly small table lamps or floor lamps, that do not provide much light, especially upstairs in the bedrooms, but most inconvenient in the living room. The heat is also 'iffy' it turns on and provides heat immediately but it is difficult to control, making it either too hot quickly or to cold, I think the reason being that the outside doors don't close well and are drafty. If this sounds like a bad review, it is most definately not. I just wanted to point out things that you don't get from the photos. We really enjoyed out stay here, and would absolutely stay here again. the dealings with Maria were always prompt and professional. The house was very clean, paper towels, toilet paper provided. It is in a great location and we enjoyed hiking in the snow in the woods right behind the cabin. It is reasonably priced, and well suited to a family or group of 7, (the single bed in the loft area was really "iffy", actually the whole loft area kind of creaked when you walked on it). All in all, we had a great time in this cabin, and would highly recommend staying here.

romantic weekend/ski getaway

Despite the unbelievably cold and less than desirable ski conditions, the cabin was the highlight of our weekend. Maria, and her caretaker Becky, were very accommodating through the entire reservation and arrival process. The cabin is very inviting with its quaint mountain charm and oddly themed interior. The description is quite accurate as far as amenities and what to expect upon arrival. Everything was clean and organized, Becky does an impeccable job getting the guests situated and is there to help if any problematic events occur. There is more than enough room for two couples to share the space without having to share bathrooms or be on top of one another. We definitely plan on renting Maria's cabin again and would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a little peace and quiet and a very relaxing vacation away from it all.

Christmas Break Ski Vacation

Our family plan this year was to treat our two sons to a ski trip versus the usual gift-giving. Maria's cabin was far more wonderful than expected. The cabin itself was cozy and charming. It's so close to Mt Snow but still far enough away from it all. We wouldn't change a thing! Thanks Maria and Becky!

My parents built this home in 1974, on land that had been in the family for many generations. I enjoyed the house as a teenager and young adult - bringing friends up on ski weekends. Now I have my own family, and we spend summers and some winters here. I am happy to share this special place with you, and hope you enjoy all that our home and Mt. Snow and Southern Vermont has to offer.

Why they chose this property

Our cabin is warm and cozy in the winter, and beautifully outdoorsy in the summer. This is a real family home that we would love to share with you.

What makes this property unique

Real Vermont log cabin! Private woods to explore at all times of year. Excellent local caretaker, if needed.
