About this property
Jungle Bungalow at Oropel Lodge
Escape to a brand-new bungalow high above Sarapiqui, privately perched to peer into protected and wild rainforest. Crafted sustainably with locally-sourced materials, this secluded yet centrally-located stay features designer finishes, floor-to-ceiling windows (including in the jumbo rain shower), and a balcony perfect for spotting toucans, macaws, monkeys, and sloths. An exterior spotlight enables incredible nighttime viewing of the jungle from the comfort of the king bed.
The bungalow is located on a private, gated property on the outskirts of a small town known internationally for white water rafting, birdwatching and other jungle wildlife viewing and activities. The elevation provides for unparalleled city, sunset and volcano views. There is ample free parking.
So that you experience the rainforest without the ruggedness, accommodations are luxuriously furnished with Brooklinen towels, imported Spanish tile and French light fixtures. Wooden furnishings are hand-crafted by the owner from downed trees found on the property. There is an exterior boot wash station. Records, Bluetooth-enabled record player, games and books are provided for entertainment. Complimentary citronella candles, bottled water and light snacks are also included. Wine is available for purchase.
On-property owners offer 24/7 support and concierge services (including meals, transportation, airport transfer, and excursions) upon request. Expertly-guided night hikes and/or wildlife photography instruction are also offered on the property.

About the host
Hosted by Nina Markowitz

Oropel Lodge is conceived of, and constructed by, Daniel Solis. It is designed by Nina Solis. And it made possible by a wonderful team of Costa Ricans that call Sarapiqui home.
Daniel and Nina first met in the hallways of Byram Hills High School in Armonk, New York when Daniel was a Senior and Nina was a Junior. They reconnected and married nearly twenty years later. Now, both Daniel and Nina live at Oropel full-time, along with their dogs Fernanda, Mora, Joey and Raul.
Daniel and Nina also operate the Solis Family Foundation "For The Animals," which spreads awareness and education about the importance of animal welfare throughout Sarapiqui. This includes the rehabilitation of stray dogs, and ongoing efforts to find them loving homes in Costa Rica, the United States, and beyond.
Before Oropel, Daniel was an entrepreneur and wildlife photographer based in California. Nina was an intelligence and security executive based in Arizona. You can learn more about them and current animal welfare efforts at www.oropellodge.com

Why they chose this property
Daniel traveled to Costa Rica as a photographer and as a tour guide for nearly a decade when he discovered the Oropel property. With a desire to share this land with his family, friends and fellow photographers, Daniel did not hesitate to establish Oropel -- even when everyone thought it was wild.
Daniel brought Nina to Costa Rica at the start of their relationship. It was her first time in-country. She fell in love as soon as she heard her first Howler monkey. Both Daniel and Nina find life in Costa Rica to be exceptionally beautiful, full of colors, life and sounds that are non-existent in the big cities.

What makes this property unique
First and foremost, the location. We are uniquely positioned on a hilltop that allows for incredible views of Sarapiqui, surrounding towns, the Arenal volcano (on clear days/nights) and the most epic sunsets. This also gives us relatively cooler, breezier air than the town below -- as well as greatly reduced traffic and other city sounds. Additionally, we sit alongside 50+ acres of wild jungle that we personally protect. This land is teeming with wildlife, and we don't go a week without seeing a sloth and/or monkey -- or a day without seeing a few pairs of colorful, tropical birds. We have beautiful plants, including banana, papaya and coconut trees. It is a magical place that we love, and we love to share with others.
Secondly, the bungalow. We personally designed everything -- from the structure itself, to everything in a it. A lot of the work we did ourselves, too. Because this is our dream and it is in every sense a labor of true love.
As a product of our love, the bungalow truly represents who we are. It represents Daniel, who spent his life traveling the world and exploring the most rugged of places. And it represents Nina, who also traveled the world in search of unique and beautiful experiences and things. It is our sincere hope that you feel this love when you stay with us. First and foremost, for the land. But also for the comfort and beauty that surrounds you inside, too.
