About this property

Mountain views, starry skies and 90 acres of nature to explore.

Your home away from home in the southern tip of the Sequoia National forest - this is the high desert region with amazing mountain views. This enchanting log cabin ranch house is surrounded by 90 acres of private land and adjacent to hundreds of square miles of BLM land. You want dark skies? On moonless nights the skies will blow your mind. You want nature? We have a year round running creek that is home to all sorts of creatures to include deer, bobcats, California ravens, Quail, and many other species to observe or have a conversation with.

Do you like things to do? You can take a dip in our creek, or hike up our surrounding mountains, or go drive your off road vehicles or dirt bikes on federal land just minutes away. We are also 25 minutes from Lake Isabella, 45 minutes from Kernville, and 90 minutes from the Trail of 100 Giants.

We are also set up for up to two horses you can keep on the property.

Do you want to give astrophotography a go? We have many books in the house to get you started. Our property is located in a Bortle Class 2 zone which is the darkest sky you can get outside of Death Valley (Bortle Class 1). So bring your telescope gear, binoculars, cameras, or just chill under a blanket of stars and count the meteorites throughout the night.

Do you like to do absolutely nothing? Let our house and property be your muse and just chill out on one of our porches with a libation of your choice, The mountain views are amazing.

We also have a load of books to read, films to watch, and games to play if you just want to hang out and enjoy the house.

Our house is roomy with a large living room with high vaulted ceilings, and plenty or rooms to explore and have some private space. We offer two queen beds, one full size futon, and two sofa beds, perfect for up to ten guests (sleeping as couples) or five folks who want to sleep alone and have plenty of space. We have plenty of shampoos, and body soaps in our three full bathrooms. My ranch house and property will help you experience everything the California high desert has to offer.

Please bear in mind that we only accept bookings for 14 days max. No long term inquiries please. Thank you.

Native Californian and a citizen of the world. I live mostly in Europe but spend a great deal of time at the Monkey Flower Ranch here in Weldon. I have been renting this property out for several years and have rave reviews at Airbnb - the main reason is that this is an amazing escape from city life - and this is one of the reasons I enjoy sharing this place with local and world travellers.

I am retired (US military, Alaska fisherman, and Internet entrepreneur - it's complicated LOL) and this is my go-to place for astrophotography, landscape and nature photography, hiking, and exploring nature - and just chilling out with a glass of wine. This place checks all the boxes.

Why they chose this property

The California high desert is an incredible landscape, and this is far enough away from the city to have real peace and solace, but close enough to be able to get whatever you need. The nature and starry skies can really transform your sense of self.

What makes this property unique

The Monkey Flower Ranch is one of a kind. You would be tasked to find anything like this in the Lake Isabella area. It's the perfect place for couples to get away - or a few friends to enjoy each other company. The Monkey Flower Ranch is named after the Kelso Creek Monkeyflower (Erythranthe shevockii) - which is ONLY found in our creek area and Kelso Valley. It is a rare flower that is very hard to find - thus I have named my ranch the Monkey Flower Ranch.

Another thing that makes the property unique is its indigenous peoples' history. The Tübatulabal people settled on this land over 3000 years ago, and the property is peppered with remnants of their settlements. Take a long stroll and you can find the grinding stones where they ground up seeds and plants for their meals. These can be found on both the eastern and west side of the property. .
