For nature-lovers, with spectacular treetop views from the back porch during the dry season, and the sound of rushing water from Glen Falls during the rainy season. With 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms, the Glenn Falls Cottage sleeps 6 and is ready to host your next family getaway! Only 4 miles from downtown Chattanooga where you can enjoy some of the best restaurants, art and music in the south; and only 4 miles to Rock City, Ruby Falls and the Aquarium, the Glenn Falls Cottage is central for exploring Lookout Mountain and Chattanooga!
· Parking: The parking area for the Cottage can accommodate 2 cars easily. To turn around, we've found that backing up to the forested shoulder of the opposite side of the road is the easiest way to turn around. Using the steep driveway adjacent to 5538 can sometimes lead to bottoming-out problems.
· Toilets: Please do not flush anything down the toilet aside from toilet paper. We are on a septic system and feminine hygiene products or any other man-made substance will not biodegrade.
· Water: the water from the tap is city water and is safe to drink.
· Kids: We did not baby-proof the house, so please do whatever baby-proofing you need to once you arrive.
We suggest that you keep a close eye on your kids on the decks and outside as there can be yellow jackets and other potentially harmful critters.
· Bugs: You’re in the South, in the woods, in a 100 year old house – there will be bugs. We do regularly treat the house for cockroaches, ants, and spiders, but please let us know if you see an uncomfortable amount and we’ll spray right away.
· Bonfires: You are welcome to use the fire pit in the backyard. Please put out the flames completely before leaving the fire pit unattended. You're welcome to gather and collect dead wood from the forest but please do not use the purchased cut wood meant for the indoor wood burning stove.
· Wood-burning Stove: A memorable component to your stay , feel free to use the fire starters, chopped wood, and kindling to have a fire in the wood stove.
**Please no fires on the morning of your departure.**
**Please see the Wood Stove Instructions later in this binder before building a fire, even if you are familiar with wood stoves.**
· Barbecue: Please enjoy the charcoal grill on the back porch. Once the grill has cooled, we’d appreciate you scraping/brushing the grill and disposing of the ashes in the outdoor trash.
· Coffee: A Keurig with pods is available or a coffee press with grinder. Please don’t use water to clean the coffee grinder. Instead, you may wipe it out with a dry paper towel if you like.
· Extra Blankets, Towels, Pillows and Sheets: You can find extra bedding in the closets.
· Thermostat: The thermostat is in the entry room – feel free to adjust the temperature to your comfort level.
· TVs: The TVs are equipped with our Amazon Prime and Netflix accounts. However, if you sign into your personal account, please remember to sign out before you leave.
· Wi-Fi: The network name is Cottage and password is tacocat1
· Spare Key: There is a spare key to the front door in the entry room, if needed.
· Washer & Dryer: You are welcome to use the washer & dryer.
· Trash Cans: The large blue trash can is for recycling – cardboard, paper, metal/aluminum, and plastic. All other trash can be disposed of in the smaller trash can.
· Safety: We have lived on Glenn Falls for 12 years now and have never experienced a theft or threat of any kind. Most people don’t know this road exists! However, there are coyotes, bobcats, and even a mountain lion and bear have been spotted in the area so forest-wanderings at night is for the brave of heart.
· Glen Falls Trail: To access the Glen Falls trailhead, walk down the road the way you drove up from St. Elmo, and at the sharp turn right, look ahead into the forest for the trailhead. A landmark for the trailhead is the caged drainage access to the left. Follow the map at the back of this manual to reach Glen Falls (approx. 25 min. hike). There are many trails branching off of the main trail, so we’d recommend snapping a photo of this map and taking it with you.
· Poison Ivy: It’s best to stick to the main trails to avoid an encounter with poison ivy. “Leaves of three, let them be.” Not to be confused with kudzu, which we also have plenty of.
· Chickens: Free-range chickens roam the property and you’re welcome to feed them 1 scoop of scratch grains per day. The container is hanging outside the back door, labeled “Bird Feed.” Please sprinkle feed in the grass to protect little chicken beaks from hard surfaces.
· Cistern: An old cistern is in the side yard. A protective grid is over top of it, but kids are welcome to feed the fish several pinches of food every day.
· Amani Shop: If you would like to purchase something from our mini Amani shop in the Cottage, please add 9.25% Tennessee Sales Tax and leave your cash or check payment in the cabinet, or you can use Venmo!
