Great place to stay!

We really enjoyed our winter vacation here. Everything we needed was here and we were quite comfortable during our stay! Mary Ann was wonderful about keeping me up to date about our rental and wanting to know if there was anything we needed. We would definitely stay here again when in the area.

"Home Away From Home "

My husband and I rented this lovely cottage Feb and Mar 2012. The owner was very gracious and accommodating. The house is exactly as described and very clean, well stocked and beautifully maintained. It was very comfortable and felt like our "Home Away from Home". Excellent location, quiet neighborhood and 5 min walk to beach. We brought our dogs and they loved the fenced in back yard. Lots of patio furniture to relax and enjoy your morning coffee or afternoon tea. We are so happy we discovered your wonderful Cottage By The Sea and thanks for being pet friendly. Looking forward to spending another winter there.

Great location & the right house for us

This is a good value for the money. Beds & linens were good, kitchen well equipped and yard is lovely. The owner is more than willing to do above and beyond what is needed. We had trouble with the refrigerator and she had a service man at the house that day. She upgraded the cable package & wifi. Bike week is a busy time in Daytona and surrounding area and out in Ormand Shores we hardly noticed. Volusia County beaches are forbidden for dogs but a dog park and Flagler beaches are close by. Cleaning products such as dishwasher, laundry etc is abundant [it is mostly Amway which worked well]. We left food and non-perishables in the unit for the next folks including beer & wine. Enjoy!! All in all a pleasant stay. My husband fished off the beach which is about a 7 minute walk, everyday. Fishing was so so but he had fun & we ate all the whiting he caught.

We had terrible experience Case #13194748

We had a terrible experience we opened a case with HomeAway! Please make sure you walk in and check the appliances, smell the bedding, and check the bathrooms because when you walk-in it looks clean and organized but when you start to try to use things it’s that you realize that is dirty. Also, don’t leave without calling HomeAway customer Service and/or the owner because you will not get a refund even when you provide pictures to support your complaint. The microwave, the toaster, the range, the oven, the plate mats…. were all dirty. The bathroom was also dirty and we didn’t unpack the bathroom stuff because the cabinets were old rusty and dirty. The bedding and furniture didn’t smell pleasant either. We have used HomeAway before and this is the first time we have this experience.

Like Being at Home

When you go on vacation there is that fine line of packing way too much to packing too little. For me it is not a vacation if I can't do things with my hands, some type of craft, etc. But doing a craft at home and doing a craft somewhere else can almost cause stress for me. I mean, what if I forget to pack something. But, perhaps my favorite thing about going to this house is it was "like being at home." I needed reading glasses, which I don't usually wear, but there they were in a glass bowl waiting for me to put them on. "Boy, I wish I had a little school glue!" And there it is in the laundry room! "If I had a piece of tape to hold the corner of this paper down." And there it is, in that glass bowl! But it was more like home than that! The beds were comfortable! There was some type of breeze in the house no matter where we were as long as we had a ceiling fan on. Sometimes it's not about how cool it is in the house but the air moving that is more important to us. We were allowed to take our dogs and one of my dogs seemed extremely happy to be there. Not sure what that was about but it was good to see. I was able to just open the back door and let them out into the securely fenced in yard. (They are 12 and 14 pounds.) We were close enough to the beach to walk and enjoyed the beach breeze every day. The week we were there the weather was beautiful! A few times I walked through the neighborhood with one of my dogs. The neighbors seem very friendly and I even met a few furry friends while out. The flowers there are also beautiful! There was one day that I went out and picked several varieties of flowers and made a lovely arrangement. I wish I could upload at picture of it on this review. We usually go to Ormond once a year and this house has been one of our favorites. I recommend it to any family that has between 2-4 members. I promise you, you will enjoy your stay. Melanie

48 Camellia Dr Ormond Beach Vacation Home

This is a wonderfully comfortable 2 bedroom house, with everything in it that you could possibly want for a vacation, including bicycles and beach gear and if it's not there, Mary Anne the owner will get it for you! On a quiet friendly street close to the beach and a lovely garden as well, which our dog really enjoyed! The perfect place to come and relax and spend time on the beach.

Very nice stay, owner is amazing!

Property was very clean. Owner stayed in touch with us during our stay to make sure we were okay and to see if there were any issues. We will definitely tell our friends and family about this house for future rentals. We can't wait to go back. The house is within walking distance to the beach one way and the river in the other direction.

Nice small house rental with fenced back yard

The house has everything one needs to relax at the ocean. The owners even have bikes and a cart to take to the beach if so desired. The neighborhood is very nice and only 1 mile from a really nice dog park/city park with playground equipment. The beach is just a walk down the road and the river is even closer. Ormond Beach is a great place to visit and the house is perfect for a small family or two couples exploring the area.

Just Right !

A clean little cottage in a nice oceanside neighborhood... We even got a laugh about how detailed the owners were about labeling everything down to listing all the DVD's available in a binder... The beds were very comfortable and although the kitchen is small it is well equipped for cooking... FYI - They have an entire collection of Dean Martin Variety Hour shows on DVD - LOL... Lots of restaurant, bar and grocery store choices within a mile of the house... And of course the beach is a short walk...

Quiet getaway, perfect for anyone with dogs

We stayed a few nights over the Labor Day weekend and found the nearby beaches to be beautiful, within walking distance, and fairly quiet for the long weekend. Property was clean and was exactly as advertised. Our dogs enjoyed the fenced off backyard, and we liked being within a short drive to many great restaurants.

We stayed at this beautiful property for 2 weeks. Everything is as stated on the website. Very close to the river, quite neighborhood. We saw some very beautiful sunsets just around the curve from the house. You will not be disappointed if you book this home, nice fenced yard for the puppies too. Thank you Mary Ann for a great 2 weeks.

Walk to the beach from this well maintained, comfortable, truly pet friendly home!

We were so happy here. Ormond-by-the-sea is an area that is central to all the fun places yet far enough away to feel private. This home was fully appointed with many personal touches to make your stay absolutely perfect. The fenced in back yard was perfect for my dogs and the neighborhood is nice and safe for walking. The description of home was perfectly accurate. It was clean and comfortable. The owner answered an inquiry I had right away. I would absolutely recommend the property to my friends and family and I would definitely rent again.

Wonderful time!!!

We have visited Florida many times over the last 25 years, but never experienced the comfort, peaceful, and quiet neighborhood we stayed at here in MaryAnn's home. As u get older I guess all the noise and congestion from being in a cramped hotel gets to u, this place has spoiled us in one week. We would really like to come back here real soon, even if it is just to relax. The pictures shown of the place are super, but it is even more beautiful being here. Everything was right here at our fingertips, and we needed for nothing. The home is very private and the fenced in backyard was amazing for just sitting out and reading and drinking your coffee. The neighbors on both side were so sweet, one of them helped my husband move his little trailer that he pulled down. The other neighbor had a camper for sale and when our friends came over and he took all of us to look at it, I loved it but I told my husband, I would much rather rent from MaryAnn instead of having the camper. The home was in walking distance to the intercoastal waterway 1 block and 2 1/2 blocked to ocean but with my back and spine issues, I drove up and parked right at the beach and spent the day. If MaryAnn will have us again, I surely will book with her again. My husband loved the enclosed garage so he could keep his motorcycle inside and not have to worry about it. The big standup shower off from the Florida room was awesome, I had to throw that in here! I really can't say enough about this home, except if u r looking to rent, this is the place! Thanks again, MaryAnn

this cottage is as cozy as it looks!

We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation weeks, and look forward to our next visit. The cottage is located in a quiet neighbourhood, very close to the inter coastal waterway and just a pleasant stroll to the beach at the other end of the street. If preferred you can drive to the beach, and park right there. The location is perfect, close but not too close to the noise and hustle bustle of Daytona. With open stretches of sandy beach, and just a scattered number of beach blankets you really feel like you are "on vacation." We found the property to be very clean and well equipped with everything you need for a wonderful vacation. Furniture is clean and comfortable. The beds are in excellent condition and conducive to a great nights sleep. We would not hesitate to recommend this property.

About the host

Hosted by Mary Ann Silvey

Host profile image
A native of Western NC, I grew up in Asheville and spent summers in Lake Lure where my parents built a summer home, which became the family hideaway for relaxation and recreation. Eventually the Lake Lure hideaway became my year-round home. In 1999, my time share week in Ormond Beach became my new hideaway which I enjoyed so much that I never exchanged for another location.

After raising four children and spending 33 years as a school teacher and counselor, I retired, but spent another 7 years working in schools part-time and currently serving as a town commissioner in Lake Lure.

In 2010 I married my husband, Bill who is retired from US Air Force and US Postal Service. Together we enjoy working in crafts and community activities. Bill is a woodworker who specializes in converting obsolete and antique post office box doors into coin banks and handgun safes. I create unique hand-braided wool rugs and demonstrate at historic landmarks and the Village of Yesteryear at the NC State Fair. We enjoy escapes to Ormond Beach, and have furnished the cottage to provide a restful reflection of our enjoyment of seascapes and tropical plants. We personally planted and maintain palms, ornamentals, and tropical plants, beginning with a habiscus which was a Mother's Day gift and made the trip from NC in 2009! The cottage is our current hideaway, where we look forward to spending more time soon and sharing with family, friends, and guests who will enjoy and find comfort and renewal.

Why they chose this property

For three years I looked at condos and houses for a place where I could spend more time in Florida during my retirement years. Ormond was my choice because the climate is comfortable year-round. Cold days are rare in winter, and the ocean breeze provides relief from Summer's heat. Since my family included 'Diva', a sweet, loving Doberman Pinccher, the cottage had room, inside and out to provide privacy and allow pets to be included. The fenced back yard was a definite plus for us. We have cultivated flowering jasmine vines which have covered the fence, creating privacy for outdoor living, dining and sunning. The garage and storage shed provide ample storage for lawn furniture, bicycles, beach gear, utility wagon and even the fully decorated Christmas tree.

What makes this property unique

All the comforts of home on a smaller scale❣️

Located on a barrier island, between the Atlantic Ocean and Halifax River, the Ormond Shore Estates HOA owns waterfront lots on both the beachside and riverside. Guests are welcome to use these properties, as well as the many nearby parks , public beach access and recreation areas.

A fenced back yard provides privacy, shade, gas grill and fruit trees. In season, there are mulberries, figs, and bananas. Pomegranates and olives are in front yard.

Save your drinking water money! City water passes though our purification system and results in pure, soft water throughout the cottage. Plumbing and hot water system were replaced in 2010.

A well provides irrigation for the lawn and gardens automatically. A timer controls the sprinkler system after dark, while you sleep.

Located between Flagler and Daytona Beaches, surrounded by state parks & recreation areas on the Halifax River and a short drive to ocean piers, the cottage is only a short walk to the quiet, non-commercial beach. Restaurants, shopping, theaters, art museum, library and family entertainment or nite spots are conveniently located a short drive away.

Historic St. Augustine, shopping outlets, Ponce Lighthouse, Casino Cruises, Kennedy Space Center, Daytona Speedway are nearby attractions. Drive an hour
southwest of Daytona on I-4 to Orlando or Sanford Airports and central Florida attractions, including Disney, Seaworld, Universal Studios, LeggoLand and more. Jacksonville airport is 1 1/2 hours North on I-95.
