About the host

Hosted by Julie Hayne

Host profile image
Jules (Julie) & Adams Hayne met before their first memory in Columbia, South Carolina, ultimately sharing school hallways and high school memories until life took them in different directions. Fast forward through life’s curvy line to Christmas 2009 when the “ah ha” moment happened, and a new starting line on the path of life began. Over the course of the next two decades, they came to appreciate that Jules is “the logistics” and Adams is “the creative.” They began learning and loving together along the way, finding unique B&Bs and culinary experiences from Banner Elk to Breckenridge, St Augustine to St John, Montreal to Alaska, and Pamplona to Paris (to name a few). And with Jules’ teenage son in tow, they frequently returned to the Banner Elk area and fell in love, vowing that one day they’d be a permanent member of the community!

Since then, they've walked the Camino de Santiago 600 miles across Spain, opened and operated 5-Star Coral’s Edge B&B on the island of St Croix living the “Caribbean Life” (you can check out their Season 20 Episode 14 on HGTV!), became certified sailing skippers, and traveled around the world when Adams joined Team Unicef in the 2023-2024 Clipper Race sailing the globe.

And oh yea! With the sale of Coral's Edge, they finally found their "mountain happy place" and purchased Sugar's Edge. They recently moved onto their new "Boat & Breakfast" (and yes, of course they named it Nauti Edge!), deciding to convert Sugar’s Edge back to a rental property. But this time instead of placing it with a management company that doesn’t know and love Sugar’s Edge, and rents to names on a page, Jules decided to keep their mountain home in her hands so she can get to know their guests, give them the personalized attention they deserve, meet them in their place of need, exceed their expectations, and continue to fulfill her life’s purpose: TO SHARE JOY!

Why they chose this property

Sugar's Edge is perfectly located in the heart of Sugar Mountain close to everything this beautiful resort town has to offer including skiing and snowboarding, golf, tennis, mountain biking, festivals, hiking, wine tastings, live music, and so much more. A Sugar Ski Shuttle bus stop is just down the hill, giving simple access to the ski resort. Downtown Banner Elk with shopping and dining is just a few minutes drive away. Boone, Valle Crucis, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Beech Mountain and Hawksnest Tubing are all twenty to thirty minutes away. And if you have a question about ANYTHING, as your hosts we love our guests and are available to help you plan your perfect mountain experience!

What makes this property unique

The Timbers is perfectly located on Sugar Mountain to enjoy all that the area has to offer. But what makes Sugar's Edge in Unit E14 so special, is our completely private entrance away from all other owners, with a unique view of the ski slope through the trees, with all the wildlife that loves to explore just off our decks. Our favorite place to sit and enjoy a beverage is on our upper deck. And we are THE ONLY property in the immediate area with Air Conditioning, so you can choose whether to enjoy the fresh mountain air (all of our new windows have wonderful screens!), the air conditioning, or the indoor fireplace with ductless heat and floor heaters.

And did I mention hiking and wine? I love love love how easy it is to get your hiking and skiing fixes (the good angels) followed by your now-justified wine fix (well, the other angel, who just happens to be my FAVORITE).
