Cross Passage House is a modern take on a traditional 3/4 Cape House set in Lunenburg’s UNESCO Old Town Heritage District. The design blends historic formalism with contemporary approaches to light, open living, and sustainability. It includes an open plan kitchen/dining/living area, a downstairs bedroom, a large loft space, and a library opening out to a secluded shaded garden. The design has received a national award for architectural design, and has been included in local heritage tours.
Cross Passage House is a modern architecturally-designed home set in the midst of 250-year old Old Town Lunenburg. The plan is informed by studies of 17th Century English “Cross-Passage” houses in which the living and animals’ quarters are under the same roof, divided by a passage crossing front to back, with a focal hearth element and a loft over. In this case private living quarters are included on one side of the main floor, with living/dining/kitchen space wrapping similarly around a central core.
This beautifully designed 3 bedroom home offers 1 bedroom on the main floor with a double bed, as well as a full bath and laundry. The bonus library is a lovely sun filled retreat with a chaise longue and views of a secluded rear/south garden.
The modern open kitchen is open to living areas and includes lots of storage and amenities, including a full pantry. The dining table is spacious and is conveniently appointed with 8 chairs, with additional chairs available.
On the second floor, you'll find a large loft area that has 2 twin beds, an additional twin loft bed with a 4th twin bed below. This large Loft Room offers plenty of floor space to bring an air mattress for additional sleeping, or to create a play space if you're traveling with kids. Another bedroom on this floor with a double bed, and a second full bathroom is also located on this floor.
Take a 5 minute stroll along the historic streets of the Old Town to restaurants, shops, the fisheries museum, stunning views, and all that the waterfront has to offer.
