Very good

Firstly, the property was very difficult to find as the address did not specify whether it was A, B, or C. Secondly, the property has no heat only a small 2x4 portable heater for the whole place. Thirdly, the price they charged and what we received was abusive to say the least and no where near what we would have paid at a much cheaper, cleaner, easy to find, and warmer accommodation.

Could have been better
Looked cool online. Communication with property owner good until there was a problem. We informed we would arrive late. No problem. Upon arrival it was dark, no lights on. An animal got into outside garbage which was spread out and chewed up all over entrance deck. The garbage can itself was full of smelly, rotten food. I picked it up. Once in I was overcome with all allergic reaction to something in the air. Mildew maybe? The bathroom wasn’t very clean and the mattresses were like cardboard. If you’re looking for a basic summer camp go for it. Informed owner of the garbage mess and that we had to leave early, one night short. No reply.
The whole rental was quite an ordeal. The owner was very unresponsive. The request took a while, we received zero check in/out instructions. The property has potential and we were not expecting a five start hotel, but everything was lacking. The pictures are misleading as that furniture is no longer in the living room. Instead it’s very dilapidated chairs and a futon that needs some attention. The shower did not work properly. Only able to use the bathtub. It is in a wooded area which is slightly peaceful but the main road for the area is less than 800 feet away so there is noise from cars.
The listing also talks about access to Head beach. The beach is seasonal and did not open till the day we left which was mid June so please be mindful that the beach may not be an option. It is also close to Popham Beach which is public and we did enjoy an evening stroll there.
No heat, except a few space heaters.
Absolutely no communication with me beforehand on how to get into the house...for anyone staying in the house, it’s just unlocked when you get there…which the area has no reception and it’s just creepy to leave a house in the woods unlocked…
No instructions or internet once you get into the house. And since there’s no reception, we had to drive 20 minutes back into town to use our phones to attempt to contact the owner to ask that he give us some Internet information. We waited a couple hours in town before hearing back from him on the Internet situation. We are not from the area so we needed our phones to look things up while at the house and to contact family if needed.
This was a frustrating stay. Not worth it. Being near Popham beach is the only thing great about our stay at that house.
It was perfect for us. We went to headbeach everyday

Great Location, A Little Dirty
VRB
Pros:
Very easy access to private Head Beach with parking pass.
Near a gas station.
Near two historic sites.
Spacious for a two bedroom cabin.
Fast internet.
The owner was really helpful and even found us a pack and play so our toddler could sleep in that instead of on a twin mattress.
Cons:
Dusty and dirty (we had to vacuum most of the house when we arrived).
Screw sticking out of bedroom doorway
Missing bathroom tiles.
Out of date description on listing.
The mosquitos. Good God, the mosquitos. We couldn't be outside due to the swarms. But that was the case all over Maine.
Everything was perfect! From the time I first contacted James the owner. Was one of the most satisfying experiences we have ever had. We now know where we will stay, and keep coming back year after year. James was very accommodating too our every request.
We stayed for a long October weekend and went to the local beaches, Morse mountain, Boothbay, Bristol, and Portland. The surrounding area was beautiful and rural. The nearest town is Bath and was a 15min drive and had lots of cute shops/restaurants. Head Beach and Popham Beach were gorgeous. My daughter and my dog loved running around on the sand. The view from the top of Morse mountain, which was a short walk away and about a mile to the top, was well worth the hike. There were some mosquitos, which is to be expected in the woods/ near the beach in Maine. The house was just what we needed. It was clean and quiet. The deck looked new and there was a fire pit (which we didn’t get to use) next to the house. There was no TV or WiFi and it was a great way to disconnect. The owner had heaters in every room, which warmed up the whole house quickly. The house was full of unique antique decor. The well water tasted a bit metallic, so I’d bring bottled water. There was a small cottage, as well as a few empty parking spots for overflow beach parking, on the same property. The rental was very private though, as it was mostly surrounded by trees. Prior to getting to the house, James answered all of our questions in a timely manner. I’d definitely recommend this property! Thank you James!
To start, we never received any type of communication from the owner about check in or amenities provided at all. Upon arrival, we just checked for unlocked doors and let ourselves in. Street presence was poor, lawn was over grown and poorly maintained, drive and walkways were slick greasy mud. Fire pit is feet from septic tank and swampy water.
Several areas had old brush piles with construction trash piling up around building and building materiel paper flapping around in the wind. Inside we found it was well decorated with unique antiques but we wished for updated and comfortable furniture. Very odd layout inside, compact living room but the dining area and bathroom were bizarrely enormous. Much of the finish carpentry was incomplete or starting to come apart already. Property advertises that it comes with a Head Beach pass but on Day 1, we discovered the beach was closed and that we would be towed if we visited. We found it hard to plan anything in the area since there was no service or WiFi provided, another thing that we wished was noted in the property description.
The cottage was perfect. The mosquitoes not so much. We did end up buying fogger which did help a great deal. The cottage was well stocked. We where super happy to see a full size fridge. And it comes with a head beach pass which saved you 15 a day. We will stay here again
Very cute cottage. Close to the beach. We enjoyed our stay.

Great location- sleeps 4!
Funky place that appears to be in process of renovation.
Our family of five came to explore beaches and visit family nearby.
The cabin states is sleeps 5. The fifth person gets the couch. My rockstar husband (after driving from NJ in heavy traffic for 7 hours) volunteered to take the first night on the couch. Well, between the resulting purchase of an air mattress and visit to a local chiropractor who was willing to see a sad and hurting vacationer, that couch cost us over $200!
I implore the host to downgrade the listing to four people or spring for a new sleeper couch.
The existing couch is longer than a love seat but shorter than a standard length couch. The support is shot, the cushions are lumpy, along with being stained with holes.
The other living room furniture looks like a dorm room-style collection of curb-side finds.
As a few others said, the beds were not particularly comfortable, but FAR superior to that couch.
The cleanliness was questionable and the extra sheets we found in a drawer didn’t smell like they had been laundered.
The water has a distinct sulphur smell when warm (showering) and leaves a ‘slippery’ feel. It may be potable, but we opted to grab jugs of water when we returned to town for an air mattress 😬
We didn’t have check in directions. I tried to message once we arrived, but zero cell signal left us hoping the place was just unlocked. It was, but that’s atypical of any other VRBO. After a long, hard day of driving, knowing the plan to gain access is critical!
This is not the priciest VRBO, but I would expect cleaner and generally nicer if it’s being offered as a place of lodging.
All that aside, you are on a peninsula of land super close to several beaches. The beach pass (despite saying exp 2020) saved us the $15 beach fee at Head Beach!
The table is large and we enjoyed playing games.
No AC, but several fans available.
The vase of fresh daisies on the kitchen island was a nice touch.
The cabin is tucked in the woods. We came in June, so the mosquitoes were thick and swarming. Pretty surroundings, minus the small junk pile behind the house, but the mosquitoes drove us indoors for the entirety of our stay.
Coffee pot provided, but BYO coffee grounds 🙂
Bottom line: Mike, you are located in the heart of Gorgeous Maine, so tourists are a given. However, if you want repeat customers;
1. Upgrade the furniture
2. Burn the couch
3. Hooks for towels
4. Up the cleaning game a notch or two
Me and my buds came up to view the Maine experience and this bnb was the perfect base to do so. It was close by to some interesting places and the nature around the cabin itself was great. Beds weren’t too bad (could be better), and a lack of a vent above the stove had us setting off the fire alarm several times even with all the windows open. Otherwise, it was a fun trip and our lodging was fairly comfortable through and through.
This property is the perfect quiet combination of country living and beach beauty. I booked this property for a quiet weekend away with a friend. The quietness of the wooded space was amazing and you could hear the ocean calling through the trees. 5 mins up the road is popham beach which was also uncrowned and amazingly peaceful. The farmers market store provided us with some wonderful local homemade pies and fudge. If you are looking for an unplugged, off the beaten path property, this is the place for you as there is very sparse cell service and no media technology in this space. Bring your bugspray and books and enjoy the ocean waves and sandy beaches. We will definitely be returning and bringing our families.
It was the most peace I've had in months..... Was feeling super grateful to have landed that rental on such short notice. :)

Just Fine
The property is cleverly built with repurposed materials for chandeliers, table, and accent walls. It’s a nice open design with more space than you’ll need given the limited number of beds- one queen/double and two twin. There are antiques throughout including a claw foot tub and old faucet fixtures. It adds some charm but also impracticalities. You soon realize the old faucets are too short to use and the bathroom floor is ice cold when stepping out of the tub. Despite listing availability of linens, there are not enough and some are in pretty poor shape. I recommend bringing your own. We came and went without hearing anything from the owner, not even a message at check-in saying the welcome and the door is open. We figured it out, but a few seconds of hospitality are always appreciated. It’s a place that will do you just fine for a night or two. Not quite the gem we were hoping for.
My boyfriend and I stayed for a night for a little getaway.. it was just what we needed! The cottage was great.. peaceful and quiet. We had a great time disconnecting from the world for just a moment. Would definitely come back.
