About the host
Hosted by Catherine Lynn Horton

We are new to VRBO. But, we are not new to hosting. My husband and I started hosting in 2017. We love this area. I grew up going to summer camp in Hardy, Ark. I learned to swim and canoe in the river and made life-long friendships there. I have pursued the mountains, deserts, and all types of water over the years. Yet, as an adult, this area called me back. Now I have the chance to share it all and nothing makes me happier. Reconnect with nature and the personal touches of this small town.
Why they chose this property
A little history of the neighborhood: Lake Kiwanie was named for and is located at the old Camp Kiwani (no "e" in the original spelling) in Hardy, AR. Camp Kiwani (The Girl Scout Council of the Mid-South) began in 1920 when 80 acres in the foothills of the Ozarks near Hardy, Arkansas became the first Camp Kiwani and served until it was sold in 1960. It was one of the first Girl Scout camps built, about the same time Camp Miramichee and Camp Kia Kima began in Hardy on the Southfork of the Spring River. Camp Kiwani moved to Hardeman County near Middleton, Tennessee but the spirit of camping, canoeing and the love of nature remains. The neighborhood now consists of the private lake, cabins and homes conveniently located between Hardy and Cherokee Village (2 miles to each). This cabin (named Brownie) is part of Camp Miramichee Falls short term rentals. We have 8 rentals ranging in size from 1-room cabins to the 3,000 square foot home next to this cabin. We own three rentals in a row on Kiwanie Lake and 5 cabins on the Southfork River across the road, two blocks away.
Hardy is home to the Spring River, known for fishing and river floats, and the downtown has some great local shops. Outfitters are just a couple of miles away if you want to enjoy a float. Cherokee Village is home to seven lakes, two golf courses, restaurants, Walmart and an emergency room hospital. Come enjoy the outdoors and the small town charm of Hardy and the surrounding area.

What makes this property unique
This cabin, though only two miles from Hardy or Cherokee Village, feels very private and remote. You do have about 10 other cabins around the lake as neighbors, but there is a very relaxing feel here. The almost constant shade over the back deck provides a lovely place to unwind any time of day. The lake is great for fishing (bream, crappie, catfish, and bass) but is not recommended for swimming because of the muddy bottom. The lake is spring and creek fed and is host to lots of life. The open concept living/kitchen area along with the vaulted ceiling makes for a nice roomy feel inside. My husband and I are close by to help if needed. Come enjoy this little piece of paradise!
