Peaceful Lakeside Retreat C1920, Minutes To Damariscotta

2024 RESERVATIONS OPEN NOW: BOOKING FAST
Hidden away on a quiet freshwater lake 1 hr from Portland & 7 minutes to the charming village of Damariscotta, Blenheim Park's Tea House is a magical spot for a getaway. Two charming c1900 buildings set back 900ft from the road, literally hang on the water's edge. Ideally suited for couples & solo travelers seeking peace and quiet, you'll enjoy exclusive use of a waterfront area, kayaks, canoe, inflatable swans & your own private patio set into the lake.

The 16 acre estate is home to Maine's largest cherry orchard with 200 sour cherry trees and 150 flowering cherries under crop. It offers over 1800 ft of private lakefront, 100ft of which is available to Tea House summer guests exclusively. There's a lovely sitting porch literally overhanging the water, and a sunny patio built INTO the lake. Spend the week restaurant hopping, fishing* from the patio, roasting marshmallows around the fire pit, swimming, kayaking, sunbathing, cooking, reading and stargazing to your hearts content.

The rental consists of two cottages. The Teahouse (the red one) is where you'll gather, cook, dine, lounge, play records and games and swim. The Boathouse (the white one) houses the bathroom and bedrooms. They are less than 100ft apart and both absolute waterfront. Fees listed are for two people. The Boathouse will accommodate up to six (in three beds) for $100 per extra person per booking.

The owners are on premises a few hundred feet away and available if needed, but also adept at 'disappearing' during your stay. Guests enjoy a section of waterfront to themselves where the peace and beauty of this gorgeous location will refresh and renew your spirit in no time at all.

COVID OPTIONS:
For the 2024 season we're continuing to limit rentals to six nights only to allow our cleaning team to perform increased cleaning procedures and allow the cottages to air out a full 24hrs between guests.

*Fishing requires local permit, easily obtained online.

- We are absolute lakefront into deep water. This rental is not suitable for children who cannot swim.

Wonderful Lake House
We had a wonderful stay! House and property are amazing, the pond is perfect for swimming and kayaking, the hosts were great and provided many personal touches. They also have a really fun farm boutique on the property. Highly recommended!

Beautiful Property
The owners have created an unforgettable experience that combines living space, sleeping space and playing space. The gardens are gorgeous, fire pit inviting, and the smallest details are thought through. The "tea house" is a beautiful spot right in the lake. The sleeping space - the "boat house" was comfortable and we were extra glad for an AC unit in the main bedroom. Thoughtfully decorated to feel casual and inviting, the rockers and small table on the deck are lovely touches. The third bed is in a shared space (with the other 2 sleeping areas and bath) but it worked fine for us. Was wonderful to wake up to the waves lapping on the rocks below the cottage.

Couldn’t get any closer to the lake. Great indoor and outdoor spaces. Water was warm and deep for great swimming, and we saw (and heard) many loons. Great week.

Idyllic vacation setting
The two buildings are just lovely and the setting is breathtaking. Being able to step out the door and into a kayak whenever we wanted was a particularly wonderful part of the stay. The property is ideally situated for exploring all the wonderful surrounding areas. We hope to return again next year.

Paradise
We loved our return visit to Blenheim Park! Completely relaxing with all the amenities you may need and some you don’t even realize that you need, like the croquet and bocce sets, the canoes and kayaks, and the fire pit and gas grill! We plan to return next year, and the year after that. . . .

A Perfect Two Weeks
Loved my time here. So peaceful with a lake practically to yourself (and the loons). The teahouse was comfortable and charming and I loved sleeping in the boathouse. What a special place. Kerry and Justin were perfect hosts. Thank you for the archery lesson, Justin!

Another wonderful stay!
Returning for a second stay and it did not disappoint! It is such a peaceful and lovely spot and Kerry and Justin are the best hosts. The tea house has everything you need and the boat house is perfectly relaxing. It was so nice to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning while watching the fog on the water….even the few rainy days were great. We love coming here and always wish we had more time. Thank you!

A Slice of Heaven
If you are looking for beautiful seclusion yet near the best that Maine has to offer, this is a lovely place to stay. You can just relax on the property and not go anywhere while enjoying the amazing scenery, go on hikes, fish off your front porch, use their kayaks to go on the lake, swim, snooze in the hammocks, and enjoy the fire pit and awesome night sky that is blanketed with stars. Easy to take day trips to beautiful spots in mid-coast Maine and great restaurants abound. The only problem is vacations are never long enough and you won't want to leave!

A respite amid a pandemic
We had a fantastic stay at Blenheim Park with our two boys (aged 8 and 10)! We unplugged, played charades by the fire, swam and rowed in the lake, and read under the deck umbrellas. In the evenings, we tried the excellent restaurants in the area. The days melted into each other - and before we knew it we were packing up to head home. Thanks for a great week - we hope you will have us back next summer!

Quiet, restful and wonderful.
The "Tea house" is absolutely lovely, and the "Boat house" with the 3 bedrooms and bath made for a wonderful stay. Although it was partially grey and cold they have both a gas fire place in the living room and a fire pit outside between the "Tea house" and the "Boat house. There are no motorboats on the pond so it's so quiet you can hear the loons. With both the kayaks and the inflatable row boat you can really enjoy the water. We had the best time.

A lovely stay!
We absolutely adored this property! It is so unique, well appointed and cozy. The owners are nearby but you would never know - you definitely feel like you are alone on the pond, which is exactly what we were looking for! The pond itself is almost undiscovered, with very few properties on it. So quiet and peaceful. We were able to kayak every morning with the loons and even see a bald eagle one morning! The location of the property is perfect - so close to Damariscotta to get groceries and within 20 minutes of the ocean. Pemaquid point is nearby and so many other attractions. This is a special place, and was perfect for our family of three - would definitely stay again!

Beautiful, peaceful retreat
Words can’t describe these beautiful cottages and property on idyllic McCurdy Pond. It is evident that Kerry and Justin have poured their hearts, souls, and artistry into preserving Blenheim Park and creating a magical experience for their guests. The cottages are gorgeous and well-appointed without being so precious that I worried about my 11 year old wrecking the place. Perfect retreat for a couple or small family with an older child who can appreciate solitude and simplicity. We feel so fortunate to have found this place and would stay forever if we could! The surrounding mid coast area offers something for everyone, but most days we were content to nap/read in the tea house or on the patio, swim and paddle around in the kayaks or just sit by the fire and watch the stars.

Picture Perfect
Kerry and Justin, both photographers, have done an amazing job creating a picture perfect vacation property. From the moment you see the private drive and Cherry grove, you know that you are in a special place. The Teahouse and Bathhouse are both maintained and have more than one could need. The property is perfect with beautiful gardens, lawn games and a fire pit for relaxing. The back porch of the Teahouse is where I spent most of my time, enjoying the peace and quiet and watching the numerous species of wildlife a few feet away interact. Lastly, there’s Kerry and Justin. They are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable with recommendations of the area. They have built something special with Blenheim Park and are happy to share it with kindness and hospitality. I will definitely be back!

Magical getaway on the lake
My husband and I were looking for a quiet hide-away on the water in Maine, near towns and ocean, but far enough from traffic to be relaxing. We found it here! The Tea House is absolutely charming, with lots of windows, sunlight, comfortable furniture, and all the supplies you need to just stay there in a happy trance on the porch all day. It is hanging out over the water!! We had our morning coffee on the lounge chairs of the patio while we listened to the loons and watched the mist rise off the lake, then jumped in when we got hot. The location is great for going out for dinner in Damarisctotta-- where we found many good restaurants and cafes with scenic views. We took day trips to Camden, Rockland and Bristol-- altogether, a perfect location, with outstandingly generous and warm hosts.

Magical week at Blenheim Park!
We had a wonderful week at Blenheim Park. The cottages are charming, the lake is clear and serene, and the grounds are beautiful. Kerry and Justin are fantastic hosts. They provided everything we needed, including a lovely bottle of wine, fresh local cherries, and s'mores ingredients. They gave us great restaurant recommendations and ideas for fun things to do, and even got their archery target set up for our daughter. The property feels like it is in the middle of nowhere, but it is just a few minutes drive from Damariscotta, which has a fantastic bakery, bookstore, shops and restaurants. It is also a short drive to several charming seaside villages. Our days were spent exploring cute towns and eating lobster rolls in the morning, then relaxing on the patio at the lake in the afternoon. We loved everything about the week, but nothing compared to the stargazing at night! We saw shooting stars, the Neowise Comet, the Milky Way and the Space Station. It was truly magical, and a great escape during this summer of coronavirus.

Wonderful in every way!
We just returned from our first stay at Blenheim Park. My husband was born in Waterville, and used to summer there. His dream has always been to take our family and experience Maine. Our experience was absolutely magical! Kerry and Justin have thought of every detail and offered every creature comfort you could possibly want. The decor is perfectly adorable! The Tea House is stocked with games, puzzles, a record player/Bluetooth compatible system (that Kerry will provide a rotating selection of records for), books, TV/DVR. The kitchen has everything you need for simple meals. The beds are comfortable and inviting. We had a ball in the water on the kayaks, swan floats, and rented a paddleboard. We were so in love with the area, and most of all, this slice of heaven on earth that Kerry and Justin have poured their hearts and souls into, that we cannot wait to return! This is the best vacation rental we have EVER had in many years of travels. Book this listing----you will LOVE IT!

Maine Perfection
Hands down this was the best place we’ve ever rented. First, the dwellings. These buildings are exceptional in every way. Truly. The Teahouse harkens back to the 1920s with its local architectural history and the careful decorations throughout. Each added touch is set to inspire the visitor’s senses. A supple, gold couch. Record player ready. Walls of windows framing water. Stone mantle fireplace. Reminders to slow down. Breathe. This setting is so sumptuous it could be featured in a design magazine, and yet it invites you to put your feet up and rest. The kitchen is well-appointed in the same vein: utilitarian in the sense that everything you need is within reach, yet aesthetically rich and restorative. There is egress to the porch here, and few resting places on earth can rival the pure serenity of this open, covered porch. Below, the water laps against the stone breakwater. The horizon beyond is crammed with trees and blue sky. Duck and geese eye you as they wade past. Loons call as reminders that you’re truly “away from it all.” The boathouse is superb as well. Decorated in fresh whites and blues, you’ll feel immediately restored as the screen door pads closed at your back. Inside, the air is fresh and clean, just like the linens and décor. Windows line an entire wall of the boathouse, seamlessly merging the inside/outside spaces. There are no missed touches here. From the decorations to towels to amenities, the hosts have devoted themselves to your comfort. The mattresses are new. The linens sumptuous. The stand-up shower decadent. Hand soaps lovely. Natural light abundant. The hosts live on the property, but there is plenty of room for privacy, which we loved. The deck of the Teahouse and the windows of the boathouse all face the pond where privacy is offered as a gift. There are no lights at night across the pond. No air traffic. No road noise. Just the loons. When we did see the hosts, it was like running into old friends. Their joy and love for the land is palpable. We were honored to be short-term stewards of this stunning spot for the two weeks we rested. The water is fresh. Warm. Swimmable. There’s a gorgeous diving board off the deck, a favorite spot for my ten-year-old son. The only bad thing I can say about this rental property is that I don’t live there. I’ll remain forever grateful to the hosts for the experience they provided us. We came away renewed. Better than when we arrived.

Repeat Hideaway Trip
This is our second stay at the Teahouse on Blenheim Park and Estate and just driving up the road made us both sigh and say out loud that it was good to be back. You can’t help but take pictures and friends always say it looks magical. And it is. Restorative, restful. The beds and furniture are comfy, the space is charming. The plumbing is “country” so you have to be patient with the pump sometimes but it’s part of the charm. Mostly we spend hours on the porch, watching loons, herons, eagles, and osprey and the clouds go by. This trip was in the summer so we kayaked a lot. And the diving board was out which was an absolute blast. The owners are delightful, responsive, and right on the lovely property that transforms every season. Just love it there!

Another fabulous week at Blenheim Park!
This is the third summer that our family of four has enjoyed the Teahouse and Boathouse from Kerry and Justin. We are often making our plans to return before the end of the week. This is a gem of a place - perfect for a quiet week of immersion in nature, mixed in with time for swimming/fishing/boating in the lake and all the excellent food and activities in the area.

About the host

Hosted by Kerry Payne Stailey

Host profile image
Hi,
We are Kerry and Justin, photographers and business execs, who recently escaped Brooklyn for the beauty of Maine and Connecticut. We love great food and fancy cocktails and feel that Mid Coast Maine offers the best of everywhere we've each lived (including San Francisco, New York, Pennsylvania, Lake Tahoe, Byron Bay and Sydney). Here we've found a friendly happy community, a strong art scene, distilleries and vineyards, true foodie destinations, and scenery so lovely you'll be dreaming of it long after you leave.

We settled into Blenheim Park, our dream home, in January 2017, and knew immediately it was too lovely to keep to ourselves. Come and enjoy it with us!

Why they chose this property

Blenheim Park is a stunning 16 acre estate that was lovingly transformed into an estate over a 40 year period by the previous owner. Long time fans of the beauty of Maine and the warmth of its people, we watched this property online from our home in Brooklyn for a year, and finally inspected it during a trip to volunteer at a Maine summer camp for bereaved children.

We fell in love and immediately set about selling our Brooklyn properties to make the move North. It's truly our dream property and we're excited to share it with guests during the warmer months.

What makes this property unique

- We are absolute lakefront with deep water. Property is not be suitable for young children who cannot swim.

Lovely under snow, blooming in Spring, refreshing in Summer and vibrant in Fall, there's not a season that doesn't shine at Blenheim Park.
