Excellent Place to Stay!

Such an amazing place to stay, inside and out. Great location really close to a lot of hiking and site seeing areas. I would recommend this to any one who would like a quite get away with jaw dropping views and being within a short distance to all the attractions. I would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic Foresta

The Johnson Family cabin has gotta be one of the best places to stay in Foresta, oh, & in Yosemite, oh, & in all National Parks. Oh, & Lloyd & Becca have gotta be just about the best VRBO hosts you can imagine in Foresta, oh, & in Yosemite & beyond. All my dear wife & I ask, is that after reading our review you don’t rush right over to the booking calendar & book the week we want to visit in 2025… or 2926!

Yosemite Cabin: Scenic and Serene.

Our second visit to this Yosemite cabin was just as delightful as the first. The cabin is exceptionally well-maintained and spotlessly clean, providing a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. One of the highlights is the view of El Capitan and Half Dome, which are visible right from the cabin. The cabin’s close proximity to Yosemite National Park is also a significant benefit, offering easy access for exploring the park’s natural wonders. This cabin is highly recommended for anyone looking for a picturesque and convenient stay in Yosemite.

Wonderful, peaceful location

We loved staying at the Johnson cabin within Yosemite National Park! The park is just as amazing as everyone says. We did at least six miles of hard (but very rewarding) hiking every day, and as many activities as we could in the valley. It was wonderful to come back to the quiet cabin for a hot soak in the bathtub and a home-cooked meal. We came from NY, without checking bags, so we did not have a lot of clothes with us, which was no problem because we could do laundry in the cabin (washer & dryer). Finally, Lloyd was super easy to communicate with, helpful and welcoming. The cabin seems brand new, and is very spacious, but it also has the feel of a family place where generations have gathered and enjoyed being together. We had a perfect stay!

Yosemite in Your Backyard

Johnson Cabin and its location are both amazing. The cabin is inside the park, so you only have to enter the park once upon arrival. A beautiful 30-minute drive to/from the valley, past stunning waterfalls, changing vistas of the valley, and lots of turn-outs for stopping - plus two tunnels. The cabin was spotless, and the kitchen was the most well stocked we have ever had. Views of El Cap and Half Dome from the living room and the deck. Comfortable beds - upstairs "suite". Lloyd was readily accessible via phone/text, very friendly, and really helpful. Beautiful walks around the cabin, too - Foresta Creek and Falls, vistas from behind the cabin, and up the road from the cabin. Gorgeous peaceful, serene setting - more than worth every penny.

Wonderful Property away from it all!

We loved how clean and comfortable your property was! Breakfast on the deck every morning was truly wonderful. The home is located in a very quiet neighborhood off the beaten path. The owner has thought of everything...we've rented several VRBOs before and this one was certainly top-notch. Simple things like ziplocs, Kleenex, condiments, and laundry tabs are such a plus in this area of the park since grocery stores are few and far between. The kitchen was stocked very well and beds and bedding were very comfy. The library of books on Yosemite was extensive and very helpful for us first-timers. We can't thank you enough for sharing your property with us. (As a sidenote, we moved south in the park for our last two nights to a property in Yosemite West that paled in comparison - we were spoiled!)

A Dream Come True!

My husband and I have been wanting to explore Yosemite National Park for decades, and we finally made that dream come true. This May (2024), we spent four nights at the Johnson Family home within the boundaries of Yosemite National Park. This made it so convenient to explore all the areas of the park. The home was cozy, immaculate, well stocked with kitchen essentials, and had incredible views of El Capitan and Half Dome. We could even see the flickering lights of the climbers on El Capitan at night! With its very quiet, remote location, the stars in the night sky were brilliant. We could see satellites and meteors from the ETA Aquariids meteor shower activity. We were visited by deer in the yard and 2 very entertaining ravens each day. After spending 4 busy days exploring the park, we came home to this beautiful property and used the gas grill to make a delicious dinner each night. Our stay at the Johnson Family home exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend this property. We cannot wait to return for another stay! Many thanks to the Johnson Family for sharing this gorgeous home with us. Appreciatively, Linda and Joe

A Slice of Paradise

We had a lovely stay in Lloyd and Becca's home which is truly a marvel and the best VRBO house we have ever had the pleasure of staying in. And the location- Excellent! It's central to everything you would want to do in Yosemite. No reservations needed as you are already in the park. Anything you could possibly need is provided for you in the most organized and well thought out manner ever. You don't want for anything. The kitchen comes fully equipped and would make even a gourmet cook very happy. The beds were very comfortable with plenty of pillows and blankets. The shower had great water pressure and nice thick towels. They even provide beach towels should you want to visit any one of the lakes in the park or a waterfall. Such a nice place to return to after a busy day in the park- be it hiking, watching the climbers on El Capitan, exploring or fly fishing. And you can't beat the view of El Capitan and Half Dome from the dining room table. Breathtaking! The wildlife was also very cooperative- the owl at night, the bobcat strolling through the yard with his breakfast catch, the hawk sitting in a tree right beside the deck, the quail running through the yard and the coyote showing up beside you on the road. And last, but not least, the view of the stars at night with the Milky Way right over the house. Hated to leave but our son had to get back to work. As Arnold is want to say, "I'll be back".

Halfdome honeymoon

We stayed here for our adventurous honeymoon, and adventurous it was! Firstly, don’t make the same mistake I did, just read the directions Lloyd sends over. I just figured I would look up where it would be on the map, just read the instructions far easier lol. The valley is about 30 minutes away. In my opinion a lot better than staying in the valley, we would get up early hike and look around, then we would come back to the house in the early afternoon. We summited half dome on our stay and it was the perfect distance as we needed to start the hike at 4 am. And the drive to the home is unreal scenic! The house is stocked!! There was oil, ziplocks, tinfoil, trash bags. We made the mistake of purchasing alot of necessary items so at the end of the week we just added to the inventory. The house is spotless and the bed was super comfy! There is a large meadow in front of the house, not much wildlife our week other than squirrels and lizards but we did have a coyote outside our bedroom window one night! thank you so much for sharing this wonderful home with us and making our honeymoon one to remember!

Absolutely the perfect home

We stayed eight nights in September, 2022. The house is perfect. I would never stay in a lodge if I could get this house. It is 15 minutes from the valley and close to everywhere. Hiking in Foresta is gorgeous. The house is stocked as well or better than any VRBO I have stayed at anywhere. Everything worked, everything was clean. Check in and out was simple. Taking the garbage out was nothing. Very easy. If I come back to Yosemite, I will time my trip to make sure we can get this property.

Highly Highly recommended

The description is accurate - what you see/read is what you get, it was really clean, there was plenty of space for our items, there were books about the park, history, identifications, etc. Internet access is spotty but it is there (as clearly stated by owner). Views are amazing. Location is great - you are in the park so no waiting at entrance stations; about 15 minutes into the Valley center. Very clear communications with owner. Without any hesitation, we would and hope to return.

Lovely cabin

We travel to Yosemite every year and this is easily the best place we stayed at in the park. Everything was nice, clean and, frankly, felt like new. We appreciated the short drive to the valley. The view of El Cap and Half Dome from the rooms and from the deck was a nice bonus. We used ATT cell hotspot for internet streaming so it wasn’t an issue as we initially expected. Lloyd was very responsive and accommodating. We really hope to come back to the cabin in the future.

Views from all angles

We sat and stared at El Capitan and Half Dome for hours from the perfectly sized deck. It was so peaceful to listen to the wind and birds, watch the squirrels, and gape at the moon and stars. This is a great jumping off point to see all the glory of Yosemite. We'll never forget our stay!

Amazing

This place was perfect in all ways. Location in the park and within 30 min of Yosemite village was awesome, both the indoor and outdoor space was perfect (I enjoyed morning coffee on the deck most mornings and watching the stars at night was incredible), the cabin was clean, incredibly stocked, beds where comfortable, the library was absolutely awesome to have (I enjoyed reading from their collection every day) and lloyd checked in a few times to make sure everything was going well. Thanks again for sharing your amazing home. Hope to be able to rerun some day.

Amazing location

I'm conflicted. Do I give this property the amazing review it deserves and thereby lock myself out of the calendar to stay here again OR do I...? You're right. Be honest. The location of this property for Yosemite Valley cannot be beat unless you want to stay in the Lodge or the Ahwahnee or the campgrounds. All of those choices have their respective drawbacks. This house, in contrast, checks all of the boxes for comfort, privacy, and access to the park. The thing my group noted was how well stocked/equipped the house was. The kitchen has everything you need! The back deck is amazing and is as shown in their picture. Its private and yet you have that view of El Capitan and Half Dome in the back. Sit out there and drink a cup of coffee and watch the sunrise on Yosemite valley...or set. The house is as presented online. The communication is punctual. The owners are friendly and go out of there way to make sure you're comfortable. We literally felt right at home. What more could I ask for?...besides leaving an other week open on the calendar for our return. ;) One thing to note, there is Wifi/Internet but no TV service here. Just a TV and a DVD player with 50 selections (or bring your own.) For us, that was GREAT. For others who may suffer from TV withdrawal, not so much. But hey, you're in Yosemite! Why watch TV?

About the host

Hosted by Lloyd & Becca Johnson

Host profile image
My grandfather and a friend purchased the land in 1955 and built a cabin structure shortly after. I came to Yosemite with my family every summer as a boy and continued through college. There are many wonderful memories of our time at the cabin site.
We have annual family reunions at Foresta with the 5th generation now attending.
I grew up in Santa Cruz, California but now live in Bellingham, Washington. Now that the children (4) are grown, we split our time between home and Yosemite.
I enjoy hiking around Yosemite and want to hike as many trails as I can.

Why they chose this property

We feel very blessed to have a place to stay IN Yosemite National Park. There's no place like it. We love the peace and quiet, the majestic splendor, the numerous trails, the grandeur,... I really like the Sierra Nevada mountains.

What makes this property unique

The large, attached deck is big and wonderful for enjoying the outdoors. The cabin is full of light, open, comfortable and feels spacious for its size. We like the tile floor,
We are one of a few private homes inside Yosemite that has views of the the valley's Half Dome, El Capitan and Cloud's Rest. Walking further up the road (5 minutes) gives you a scenic place to take photos with the Big Meadow and its historic barns, in the foreground and El Capitan and Half Dome in the background.
