A Truly Unique & Authentic Getaway in a Charming Spanish Mountain Village
Welcome to Casitas la Cueva!
We offer two beautiful holiday homes nestled in a peaceful, traditional Spanish village – a perfect base for those who love nature, yet want to be close to the coast and cities like Granada and Malaga (both just an hour's drive away).
Our homes are La Estrella (great for up to 5 people, but can accommodate 7 if 2 people use the sofa bed) and El Sol (perfect for 2-4 people). Both houses share a gorgeous courtyard garden, a one-of-a-kind cave pool, and an amazing roof terrace.
"La Estrella" blends Bohemian and Moorish styles, with lots of local materials and earthy tones. The courtyard garden is a lush greenery with tropical plants, giving you a quiet oasis to enjoy. From this cozy patio with its handmade seating area, you can enter both homes. A few steps lead up to the swimming pool, which is located inside a cave (once home to pigs, rabbits, and chickens – how cool is that?).
The solar-heated pool comes with a built-in bench with air jets (think mini jacuzzi!), making it the perfect spot for a refreshing swim. Right next to the pool, there’s a bathroom with a toilet and shower, plus a washing machine, iron, and ironing board for your convenience.
For panoramic views, take the spiral staircase up to the large (100m²) roof terrace. It’s south-facing, so you can soak in the stunning views of the Los Guajares mountain range, which separates us from the coast. It’s the perfect spot for a drink while watching the sunset.
"La Estrella" has two bedrooms on the upper floor. One bedroom has a small balcony with views of the patio, while the other has a cozy alcove with an extra bed (the 5th bed). The bathroom is shared between both rooms.
Downstairs, the living space is bright and airy. The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need: fridge-freezer, oven, toaster, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine, plates, cutlery, and more. There’s a spacious dining area and a comfortable living room with a sofa (that doubles as a 140cm wide bed) and a Moorish-style seating area.
On cooler evenings, the wood-burning stove keeps the whole house warm and comfy. And of course, there’s a TV and free Wi-Fi throughout the property so you can stay connected (if you want to!).

About the host
Hosted by Marcella Ladiges-Groen

Even before our marriage in 2005, it was clear that we wanted to settle abroad to fully embrace life and enjoy each other’s company. In 2013, we made the move with our son to the Caribbean island of Bonaire, where we’ve happily lived for almost 12 years.
In 2024, we rediscovered the Spanish coast and found a hidden gem in the charming mountain village of Guájar-Faragüit: Casitas La Cueva. With great enthusiasm, we continue to run the holiday rental of these unique homes, and we cherish the enthusiastic reactions of our guests, who make our life in Spain feel like a "fiesta", every day.

Why they chose this property
We absolutely love the relaxed atmosphere of Guájar Faraguit. Wander through its narrow, sometimes steep alleys where the locals take leisurely strolls to the bakery or the small supermarket, stopping to chat with neighbors along the way. Outside the village, you'll find stunning walking trails through the beautiful Los Guajares valley, leading to the ruins of an old castle. Whether you’re driving through the mountains or exploring on a motorcycle, you’ll be amazed by how green this part of Spain is, with its natural pine forests and cultivated fruit trees – oranges, mangoes, avocados, and almonds.
This area offers so much to discover. One day, you can relax at the beach – just a short 30-minute drive to the coastal towns of Motril or Salobreña. The next day, you can visit the historic cities of Malaga or Granada. In winter, you can even go skiing in the Sierra Nevada in the morning and enjoy a round of golf in Motril in the afternoon! After a day of adventure, return to your cozy casita and unwind with a refreshing swim in the unique cave pool, or enjoy a sunset from the stunning roof terrace. The possibilities are endless!

What makes this property unique
We can’t think of any other place that blends the peaceful mountain village life with so many exciting possibilities right on your doorstep. But, if you simply want to unwind and relax in and around the house, then this is definitely the perfect spot for you!
The courtyard garden is absolutely stunning, filled with vibrant tropical plants and bougainvillea. You can enjoy the beauty of the garden from the cozy seating area just outside the entrance, or while relaxing in the unique cave pool. The roof terrace offers breathtaking views over the village and surrounding mountains – the perfect place to soak in the scenery.
Inside, you'll fall in love with the authentic design, which we like to call a blend of traditional Moorish style with a modern Ibiza vibe. It’s the perfect setting to relax and recharge.
And of course, we can’t forget about the importance of a luxurious bed – ensuring a restful night’s sleep for every guest!
