About this property
Bayou St. John Bungalow
Spend the night in a light-filled apartment in a 19th century Faubourg St. John home, steps from Jazz Fest and oak-lined Esplanade Avenue. This artfully-appointed, 800 sqft mother-in-law unit features a king bed and its own entrance on the ground floor of a large, historic house in a neighborhood Time Out recently rated one of the best on the planet, walkable to restaurants, bars, grocery stores, City Park and Bayou St. John.
We are the only legal, city-permitted short-term rental on our blockface.
The apartment sits beneath our family home. We have two young, energetic children who wake up early and you will sometimes hear the pitter patter of their feet above your head. Fortunately, they go to bed early.
Please also note that the ceiling height is roughly 7.5', accommodating my 6'4" father-in-law comfortably. We share the property with a long-term tenant who lives in the carriage house out back. We became the lucky stewards of this 150-year-old house four years ago and are in the midst of lovingly restoring it. So while the insides are fully renovated, some exterior elements remain charmingly shabby chic.
Only guests listed on the reservation are allowed on the property without prior permission from hosts. No firearms are allowed. Please help preserve our linens by making use of the makeup towels provided. Guests will be charged the replacement fee for missing or damaged items, including excessively stained linens.

About the host
Hosted by Emilie Bahr

I'm a writer and urban planner passionate about cities, running, music, and environmental sustainability. I live in the best neighborhood in New Orleans with my husband and two kiddos. We love this part of town so much that we moved to this house from our old house five addresses down the street. I've been renting this property on Airbnb to rave reviews for the past five years and have recently expanded to VRBO. I enjoy hosting so much that I am currently working to revive a historic boutique hotel in my husband's hometown.
Why they chose this property
Its artsy vibe, friendly atmosphere, and the historic bayou after which it is named make Faubourg St. John our favorite New Orleans neighborhood. Our central, Mid-City location makes it easy to get just about anywhere in town, and there's so much you can experience without setting foot in a car, from sunsets on Bayou St. John to a stroll beneath the majestic oaks on Esplanade or in City Park, to one of the wonderful neighborhood restaurants that attract crowds on the weekends, and of course Jazz Fest season, when the neighborhood turns into one big, rollicking block party.
What makes this property unique
You'll be spending the night in one of the oldest and most distinctive properties on our street, in one of the most colorful and desirable neighborhoods in the city. We go out of our way to make our guests feel at home with small touches and amenities that set our listing apart.
