Dishonest owner/manager
When we arrived at the property we found out there was no preparations made to get into the apartment. We phoned the administrator and she said she didn’t work with VRBO, and that the place wasn’t available. It took another hour to get through to VRBO who confirmed the reservation was indeed confirmed and paid for. During my conversation with Lydia I was informed that the owner had just cancelled the reservation.
To their credit VRBO booked us a hotel room (not a one bedroom apartment) at their cost.
However the hotel turned out to be in a night club street blocked off to traffic in the evening. We had to carry our luggage the three blocks to the door.
Also, there was a 30 dollar per day resort fee and valet fee, both obligatory which we had to pay. The cost ended up being as much as our price for the one bedroom apartment. VRBO refused to compensate us for the obligatory costs at the place they chose For us.
All in all a bad experience. We were happy to get out of Playa del Carmen.
