Welcome to your escape close to the Shenandoah River! Our home offers an opportunity to retreat into nature's tranquility. There is also much to explore in Harpers Ferry and nearby Virginia wine country. Come join us in Wild and Wonderful West Virginia!
The space
The bedroom layout is as follows:
Main floor, bedroom 1: 1 queen bed, ensuite full bath
First floor, bedroom 2: 1 queen bed
First floor, bedroom 3: 3 twin beds
Basement, bedroom 4: 1 queen bed
In addition to this there is a twin pull-out couch in a the separate game room in the basement, and a queen pull-out couch in the living room.
In addition to the 4 bedrooms 2,5 bathrooms the home features:
The full wrap-around porch allows you to soak in the surroundings from every angle, perfect for morning coffee or evening gatherings.
The main living space is designed for relaxation and entertaining, with a warm, inviting ambiance. During the winter, enjoy the pellet stove for additional heating options.
An equipped kitchen that is well setup for preparing meals as well as enjoying tea or coffee.
Additional sleeping and entertaining space in the finished basement. There is a separate room with a bed, and a tv and sleeper couch in the entertaining room.
There is ample outdoor space for you to relax or walk around in, including a trampoline.
Our home is a great place to getaway and relax. If you're interested in exploring the surroundings it is also an ideal location to explore the best of the eastern panhandle (Harpers Ferry, Shepherdstown) and Northern Virginia Wine Country (Purcellville).
Local Attractions: Drive 15 minutes to get to the cozy Mountain Lake Club where you can enjoy a meal or a beer or both all ion the beautiful Lake Shannondale. You can buy a day pass and fish or enjoy the beach . Stop by Harpers Ferry Brewing for a drink or to hear live music.
Harpers Ferry National Historical Park: Drive about 25 minutes to the park to get guidance on how to tailor a trip to your needs for hiking trails (Appalachian & C&O Canal) and learning about the rich history of the area. Don't forget to enjoy the many great views along the way!
Outdoor Activities: Enjoy hiking, biking, and water sports along the scenic Potomac and Shenandoah rivers. Access the largest private wilderness area close to DC and hike to the Appalachian Trail.
Local Wineries and Breweries: Within a 25-minute drive, indulge in the nearby vineyards and craft breweries in Loudon County, Virginia.
Small town Living: If you would like to stroll through an iconic small town visit nearby Hillsboro, VA. You can stop by Stoneybrook Farm and Market for groceries or a bite to eat. There are also restaurants and shops along the same main road through the town.
Day Trip: If you want to explore additional parts of the eastern panhandle of West Virginia take a trip to nearby Shepherdstown (35 min drive). Stop by the award winning Bavarian Inn, a resort and brewery, which offers fine dining and beers inspired by German history and culture. You can enjoy overlooking the Potomac River and cozy up to a fire pit during colder seasons. Also, enjoy the many events held by Shepherdstown University and stop by Lost Dog Coffee for great tea or coffee. The tea options are varied so be sure to get some to take home!
The home is in the mountains. Cell phone reception can be limited. Keep this in mind and download a map of the area to help with navigation.

Please note that there is fenced in above-ground pool and hot tub, which are currently out-of-service. Both are fully covered, and access to the pool is through a locked gate.

Guests have access to the entire home and outdoor spaces, including the stunning wrap-around porch. Entry is facilitated by a convenient lock box for your ease and security.
Other things to note
Our house is in an incredible location. The Shenandoah River is just around the corner - bring your kayaks or tubes to float down the river. You can hike to Rolling Ridge Conservancy, the largest privately owned wilderness area near DC, which connects to the Appalachian Trail. And then there is stellar Virginia wine country 20 minutes away in the Hillsboro area with a plethora of wineries and breweries to try.
Note that the route to the house crosses the mountain via Mission Road, and the last 5 minutes of the drive is on gravel road. If you are booking a winter trip, please make sure you are comfortable driving these roads in winter.
