About this property
Central Berkeley Home
Summary:
Keep it simple at this peaceful and centrally-located place.
The Neighborhood:
The house is situated right in the heart of Thousand Oaks, a beautiful North Berkeley neighborhood which lives up to its name with coastal live oaks everywhere, as well as a myriad of other greenery including tree-lined streets and gardens. Our block has a friendly and quiet vibe. Neighbors know each other and there’s an annual block party. Most folks are couples in their 60s and older, and there are a few young families as well. The house is in the best of both worlds; it's in a peaceful residential area with bustling Solano Avenue just a few blocks away.
Stroll around the walkable streets in the flats, or venture up into the Berkeley hills where you may just come across one of the magical hidden paths dotting the landscape. On Solano you'll find everything you'd ever need along a mile-long stretch from Berkeley into Albany, ranging from restaurants featuring cuisine from all around the world to gift shops to supermarkets to banks to an art house movie theatre. And there's a potential historical landmark nearby! The elementary school just two blocks away -- aptly called Thousand Oaks Elementary -- may just be renamed "Kamala Harris Elementary" someday because that's where she attended, at the same time as me and my siblings.
A 5-10 minute car ride away is the Gourmet Ghetto, featuring the world-famous restaurant Chez Panisse along with the very first Peet's Coffee on the planet and a variety of other delights. Another five minutes drive from there is Downtown Berkeley and the famous Telegraph Avenue as well as UC Berkeley campus.
Getting Around:
It's possible to travel everywhere from the house without ever stepping foot in a car.
AC Transit buses: they travel all over Berkeley, as well as from Berkeley to other cities including all the way to San Francisco. There are several bus lines within a few blocks of the house.
BART: the closest BART stations are either El Cerrito Plaza (1.5 miles away) or North Berkeley (2 miles away), either of which is a pleasant walk or a short bus ride from the house.
