Awful property - Complete misrepresentation online

Worst, most overrated property ever. Elevator didn’t work. No handrails up the stairs. Construction all around. Next door property under construction and wide open with easy access into rental property via balcony. Property balcony wasn’t secure because doors couldn’t lock. Ac didn’t work when we arrived. Bathroom ceiling had hole in it. We walked in and walked out because not secure. Contacted property manager and his solution was to offer maintenance to come by three days into the booking, and offer additional nights - useless since we had return flights booked. Very disappointing experience.

Cap Cana Air B&B

Everything was amazing . The only feed back was getting a QR code to be able to enter cap cana once you leave the area . I sent everything in but no code was created so I had to do it when I got to the gate . This could have been better communicated prior . The condo was beautiful . I followed everything the owner of the condo said to do and it was seamless . The house keeper was friendly . I would totally go back again . This was my first time ever going to stay at an Air B&B, and I must say my first experience was the best experience.

New years turned to nightmare

The apartment was ok, clean and as pictured in the listing. Not an hour into our stay we sat in the balcony and as my partner uncrossed his legs he sliced his foot with the coffe table that was previously broken on BOTH sides, we had to rush to an ER outside of Cap Cana about 40 mins on the road. There was no first aid kit in the apartment ( thank God we brought one ourselves) he had to get stiches on the sole of his feet, so no beach no sand nothing. On top of all the elevator to go up To the property does not work.. so imagine having that problem and having to go or down 3 flights of stairs on one foot everytime... we sent the information to the owner.. havent heard from him since.

Great place:)

Place was just as the pictures showed. I had zero issues with my stay. The owner responded quickly to any questions I had prior to arrival. Great place for relaxing in peace. The grounds are well taken care of. There is a huge pool and plenty of areas to relax.

Perfect for us!

Loved the location and the condo. We wanted to try renting a condo versus all inclusive and we have no regrets. The place is very quiet, staff friendly, even if we were not paying for all inclusive. Special thanks to Sandy who took time playing with our son, he loved it! The condo is spacious with an amazing view. The only negative is that tons of units are empty...Why??some buildings are neglected, some roofs are in need of repairs, but that is not our problem anyway! We loved it!

Beautiful condo and fantastic view

We just spent seven nights at Sotogrande. The condo exceeded our expectations ; it was classy, comfortable and immaculate. As soon as we walked in to the resort lobby the pressure was on to get us to purchase their inclusive package for $75.00 per person daily. We tried one meal at the bar and grill, and found the food marginal. I have to say that once it was clear that we weren't going to purchase the inclusive, the staff was far less friendly. ALL food at Cap Cana is expensive with , get this, a 28% tax added on, of which none goes to the waitstaff. We did take a bus for 10.00 round trip to the San Juan Mall (2 people) and loaded up on groceries. At night the porch was delightful and special. It was a great condo, but you really are isolated, and if you rent a car, things are still quite a distance from Sotogrande. If you are looking for peace and quiet, great beaches, and a heavenly pool this place is perfect.

Great property in need of some minor maintenance

Jim is an excellent host who worked tirelessly to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. He helped us resolve a major HVAC issue that arose at the beginning of our stay, and was responsive when we had a question or concern. The housekeeper, Darianna, did an excellent job cleaning, and was very polite and helpful as well. The view from the unit, and the grounds were absolutely amazing. There were always ample chairs near the pool or beach at all times throughout the day. The location of the condo complex is rather isolated, but tremendously tranquil for anyone looking to avoid the typical resort experience. It would definitely behoove anyone looking to rent this property to get a rental car. In that regard, avoid Thrify Rental Car by all means necessary, unless you're willing to shell out an additional $300+ for MANDATORY rental insurance.

Very nice apartment

The hotel complex was very good.We did not go all inclusive as it would have been an extra $2200 and the reports about the food were not good.We tried 4 different restaurants in the area but did not have on good meal even though the costs were up to $135. We had raw burgers and dry salmon and no vegetables. We decided that enough was enough and to go to a top hotel for a meal. This hotel was $1000 a night so we were expecting good food. Two starters, two mains, 1 small water, 1 pineapple juice and 2 coffee's all for $220 ( about £180.00 ). The next day my wife had the runs. When you look at a menu, look at the bottom and you will find +28% to add to your bill. When you add all these things up like $10 each to enter the country and $20 each to get out plus around £18.00 for a gallon of petrol plus very bad food it does not make for a good holiday experience.Needless to say we will not be going again. EVER. On a good note the apartment was clean and tidy and we enjoyed it very much. The 4 stars are for the apartment. The holiday experience we would give 1 star.

Great!

Beautiful condo and property. Great pool and pool bar. Nice, protected beach. Nice ocean view from condo. The restaurant was fantastic and everyone was very friendly. We ended up eating most meals there. Loved the huge shower in the master bath. Plenty of hot water. Unit needs some maintenance and a larger coffee pot. The bed was good. This unit is two story with very high ceilings. The bedroom is up some steep (and long) stairs. Just sayin'. Another warning: Punta Cana is unlike any other of the many foreign places I have been. It is HUGE. In our opinion renting a car is mandatory. We rented a car from Thrifty at the airport. We were able to drive to town (about 10 miles) where there is a supermarket by the airport. There, you can buy US type food and alcohol. Another warning: The exchange rate when you spend dollars there is horrible. Best idea is to identify one of your credit cards that has no foreign transaction fee for where cards are accepted (many places) and to use your ATM card to get cash. (Which will be at the market rate.) The exchange rates for all currencies can be followed on a smart phone with a neat app called "XE." On the other side of downtown (about 10 more miles) is the Bavaro Beach area. The beach is beautiful here, but crowded. Unfortunately, most of Punta Cana consists of huge, all-inclusive resorts, but there were a few quaint little restaurants tucked in. You have to search for them. One we liked at Bavaro Beach was "Captain Cooks" which serves great seafood right on the water. If you GPS or map to there, when you turn right on the street by the beach there is a parking lot on the right. Give the guy 100 pesos (about 50 cents) and you wont have to worry about your car. There is a great bar here ("Onno," but it doesn't open until 4:00 pm) Bartender at the bar by the ocean is cute and she speaks perfect English. Interestingly, the Bavaro area has many signs in Greek. Closer to the condo, there is a good restaurant on the beach down the next road toward town called: "La Mona." Highly recommended. There is no designated parking spot in the under ground lot for this condo. Be nice to the maintenance guy in the blue uniform and he will point you to a spot that he knows will be unoccupied during your stay. Rated a 4 because of the maintenance and cleaning issues, the stairs and the huge distances to get anywhere in Punta Cana. Have fun!

Quiet condo full of lovely natural light

We loved the quietness of the condo and all the beautiful natural light the large window let in. We rented a little car to make travel easier within the larger complex and around the city - there weren't many private cars on the roadways but quite a few motor bikes. we also bought our own groceries for our stay. When we first arrived to the condo everything was clean and tidy and the decor was lovely! The private beach and infinity pool on the property were quite enjoyable as well. While our stay wasn't without some hiccups (which often accompany international travel) Jim was quick to check in and follow up with us. We also appreciated his efforts to work to accommodate us throughout our stay. Thank you.

Nice place but...

The place is really nice if you are looking for a quite place, nice beach and the apt is exactly as you can se in the pics but has a stairways to go to the bedroom. To buy everything you need you have to drive. I like the 6 days stay but I have to advise that the owner will tell you that a lady called Xiomara will help you in any need but don't believe it because we never saw her, we asked to resolve a problem but she didn't do without many explication and we asked her to call the housekeeper to clean the apt... But she simply said she couldn't reach her and we stayed 6 days without cleaning... So.... Nice place but be ready to do on your own... Probably the receptionist could help you most.

VERY PEACEFUL AND BEAUTIFUL!

I read the reviews and yes the bathroom has paint peeling because it needs a new showerhead but works just fine. the roof did leak when it rained all day one day but that was no big deal either. Jim was very responsive and a great host. My stay was for 9 days in Sept. I really enjoyed the morning sun on the balcony....very peaceful resort. Word of advice you DEFINITELY need a car unless you plan on staying put for the duration of your trip. Cap Cana is away from everything. Punta Cana is 15 mins away. The Marina is even 5 mins away by car and it was a ghost town when i was there. I literally did not see one person at a restaurant in the marina during lunch hour. The ONLY spot you can walk to is Juanillo beach which is very nice as well. The resort wants $75/day for their cars. they charge $50/day for the golf cart. LOL....however with all this said if you want peace and relaxation and maybe a good round of golf no better spot! Thank you! Jim

WONDERFUL STAY , GREAT OWNERS

I'm not sure of the last review on here as we stayed here the week after those people.. First off this was our first time using VRBO, that being said the reviews are the most important info you read before renting a place. 98% of the reviews on this rental were awesome so we went with it - the price was perfect and this was a last minute reservation ... the owner responded quickly and was 100% helpful from day one! Now about the property.. very nice condo , and situated in a great spot just behind the lobby. The view from the porch was amazing. The resort itself is wonderful, we had intentions on buying food from the local store and cooking for ourselves to save money, but the resort offers an all inclusive deal for 65 per person a day - that was all meals, snacks, and drinks!! well worth it. The food was great and all staff was helpful ( especially Luis the bartender- my personal fav.. ) Anyway, back to the rental.. there are minor things that could be fixed, like the paint on the ceiling in bathroom - its hot in Punta Cana people, its humid, this rental is not occupied 24/7 so its expected to not be 100% perfect - besides the paint peeling off the ceiling was the least of my worries while on vacation. The only issue we had was the wifi not working, but the resort has wifi as well for free. The owner responded to my email and had his housekeeper come to the condo and set it up for us while we were out on an excursion.. no big deal. If your looking for a rental without the party atmosphere, this is the place. Don't get me wrong we had a great time at the pool bar - music, drinks.. what's not to love about that! We visited nearby resorts to go to the other side of the beach .. meh .. crowded, lots of tourists, not our thing. Here's a few pointers though; 1. rent a car- we went to so many places all you need is a gps- and it didn't hurt that my bf speaks Spanish 2. check out the excursions first! There are people there that will try to sell you an excursion that is in fact free 3. get Peso's we tipped everyone! 5. If your looking for souvenirs, great flea market type area at Bavarro Beach (Playa Bibijagua)- hidden gem- stuff is cheap there. 6. SUNSCREEN ;) 7. Definitely get at least one authentic meal- we ate at Bavarro beach - had seafood paella and tostones'. 8. If you rent a car - be forewarned make sure your return time is when the rental place is open- that was a total pia Hope this review helps sway your opinion - really a wonderful place*****

4/10 Poor

Dirty and need of repair

We have used VRBO 3 times in the past and the experience has always been fantastic. This time the hotel property and staff are lovely. But, our suite was not clean. We had cockroaches on the mail floor and ants in the upstairs closet. The hornets nest did not allow us to open the sliding door. On the first night the bed had used sheets from former guests. The blanket was wet in the dryer and could not be used. Peeling paint in the bathroom from a leaky roof. Peeling stain on the patio. Simply said this is not what we expected and were very disappointed . Our holiday was great but we will be unable to recommend this property.

Beautiful Place

Just want to thank you for use of your place, it was just what we needed. The whole booking procedure was effortless and the place was everything that was disclosed. The workers at the resort were so polite and friendly. The unit was clean and its view was tremendous. He sat out every night and took it all in. The Sotogrande was very low key and quite which made for a perfect retreat. I will advise this place to my friends and family. Thanks again

Warm, inviting, excellent value!

The place was lovely, bed quite comfortable, big bonus was the spacious outdoor patio where we star-gazed nightly. When you live in a city environment, nights are never so black and stars never so sparkly. As well, the HUGE infinity pool was perfect for uninterrupted laps, and the pool staff were delightful and accommodating. Took a day trip to Santa Domingo that was very interesting but since it was a trip to relax, read and catch-up on work, we mostly enjoyed the pool, beach and porch and REALLY appreciated the fact that this was a quiet area. Next time we'd skip renting a car--we'd just pay the large cab fees. We found it too stressful to drive (our navigation decided not to work until the last day) but that's just us. If you plan to do much exploring, a car might be a good thing to have. Would defn. come back.

Comfortable, quiet, well appointed

The condo is in the relatively small and very quiet Sotogrande resort within the larger Cap Cana resort complex. Access to Cap Cana is closely restricted, so it's very secure and private. Sotogrande is a very nice resort, although with limited amenities--only one restaurant, plus a snack bar and a bar at the pool. Everything is very scenic and well maintained, and the staff were very helpful and pleasant. Interactions with the owner, Mr. Novack, were all very helpful and pleasant. Coffee on the balcony in the morning looking out over the pool and the Atlantic were always a good way to start the day. Other resorts in Cap Cana are a short cab ride or bike ride away, and add options for restaurants and bars. We particularly enjoyed Juanillo's Beach, located next to Sanctuary Resort just to the north of Sotogrande, just 5 minutes away. There is a good open air restaurant there, a lovely beach and bar service--it's a good way to spend a day. Note that access to other resort areas, outside Cap Cana, can be challenging unless you have are visiting a guest there. All the resorts control access closely, so getting to the beach in other areas can be a challenge. There's a good grocery store (the Nacional) at Punta Cana village, and some banks there as well for safe ATM access.

A must.

Very relaxing atmosphere. Lovely decorated condo with great view of court yard, large pool and ocean. The property was well maintained and very clean. I would highly recommend this property, and we were very pleased with our interactions of the owner. We primary enjoyed the large pool for swimming, and thoroughly enjoy the entertainment pool activities and the staff.

LOVED IT!

My husband and I just got back from spending a week at this condo and we could not have loved it more! It was our first time using VRBO and we weren't sure about the whole experience but everything worked out well. There was a little miscommunication with Xiomara, the property manager, about our arrival time, but our key to the condo was waiting for us at the desk and we got moved in fine. We were very impressed with the views from the condo from our first sighting and it never failed. The condo is beautifully furnished and wonderfully located on the end. The property staff are very friendly and helpful and eager to please. The pool is fabulous and we used it everyday, usually after spending the day on the well kept beach. Nothing was crowded and it was very peaceful--just as we like it! We did not do the all inclusive, making our own breakfast and lunch. Dinners were out at one of the several restaurants found within Cap Cana, and twice at the resort. We rented a car but are re-thinking that for the next time we visit---AND, we definitely will be going back! Hopefully, next year at this same time! I would not hesitate to recommend this condo to friends and family. We feel we got lucky to find this condo for such a great price at such a beautiful location! Our first visit to the Dominican Republic was wonderful and we WILL be back!

Gorgeous and relaxing!

We celebrated our 10th anniversary here and could not have been happier. The resort is beautiful with the most amazing pool! We loved the condo, it was so comfortable and had a wonderful balcony that we enjoyed everyday. The supermarket was close by and we did a lot of cooking in the condo which made it very relaxing. we we're glad that we did not do the all inclusive package that the resort tried to sell us upon arrival because many of the other guests at the resort were dissatisfied with the price, quality of food and number of restaurants. The condo is very close to the airport and we were met at the condo promptly by Argentina. I had very high expectations for this trip and everything exceeded my expectations!! We would visit again in a heartbeat!!! The views are breathtaking and the atmosphere incredibly relaxing. Thank you Jim!!!

This condo is very well kept and is quiet and peaceful. The complex is very well planned with a very large Infiniti pool right on the Carribean Sea. Suburb

On our 45th wedding anniversary was spent here. The owner was very prompt in answering all my questions. The unit was exactly as pictured and even more so. We loved the view from his balcony and very romantic dinners at night from it. We were in the off season and only about 10 other couples were vacationing there. The unit & resort deserved 6 stars.

Host profile image
I am a Californian that currently lives in Madrid Spain and 5 years ago was introduced to the paradise on earth that is the Dominican Republic by my close friends that live there. After enjoying year after year of wonderful vacations with them and my family, we decided to invest in a luxury property in Samaná and later purchased the penthouse apartment in Sotogrande at Cap Cana. As an engineer, I am a sticker for details and understand that vacations are meant to be fun and trouble-free. Let me know what you are looking to do and I will advise you of your choices, regardless of whether you decide to stay in our unit.

Why they chose this property

Cap Cana is a secure, access-controlled luxury resort that was built at the height of the tourism and real estate boom on a truly unique stretch of 5 miles of white powder beach. It is unlikely that such an opulent and well-planned development will be matched for decades to come. Cap Cana is the best of US-oriented luxury and convenience, but minutes away from all the natural and unspoiled beauty of the Dominican Republic. You can golf, horseback ride, rent quads or buggies, zip-line, dance, drink or just rest on truly virtual-reality perfect beaches that test your senses as to whether it is real or your imagination...

What makes this property unique

Punta Cana Airport is 10 minutes away by taxi, world-class Jack Nicklaus´Punta Espada Golf Course and Golden Bear Lodge, deep sea fishing, scuba, horseback riding on the beach, buggies through the Dominican countryside, night life, restaurants, and above all the sweetness and willingness to please of the Dominican people who routinely answer with a smile whenever you ask, 'A la orden' (as you order/wish)...
