About this property

A Private Luxury Riverside Cabin in the Forest

There is nothing more lovely than warm stone under your bare feet, a crackling fire, and snow falling softly on the river just outside. Large windows immerse you and your loved ones in the wild forest all around you, as you live alongside beaver, eagle and deer. The air here is pure, the snow is clean, the water fresh, and the woods silent. Make this house your home base for a vacation of hiking, snowshoeing or cross country skiing. Relax in a beautiful bath with a solo hot tub after a long day in the snow. Then enjoy a gourmet meal in modern well equipped birch and granite kitchen central to an open floor plan and a fire in the wood stove with supplied premium oak firewood. Two cozy queen sized beds, plump with featherbeds, one in the loft overlooking the river and the starry sky, the fresh air, and the peaceful silence mean you will sleep deeply and restore.
This is a quiet space, perfect for creative retreats or meditation, pal weekends with a small group, or a romantic completely private few days together.
This is also a perfect place for young children to experience the natural world with their parents. There are family board games and classic children's toys for slowing down as a family in the evening or between romps or hikes in the snow. The huge windows to the front lawn mean you can keep and eye on them as they play in the snow from the warmth of the fireside.
And there is a smart TV in the armoire in the downstairs bedroom for your Netflix movies, great for family popcorn nights, with a bluetooth/wifi blu-ray player for your dvd's.
You are supplied with premium oak firewood for your stay. Please completely restock it before you leave. There is a restocking fee of $40 minimum depending on the weather and amount that needs to be restocked.

Consider a weeklong stay, when the cabin can be enjoyed for creative winter retreats, and a chance to write, meditate, make art or dream alone.

Cabin sleeps 4 easily with two queen size beds, a quality inflatable twin mattress and a pack n play provided on request.

The beds are made up the way the majority of our guests consider perfect and cozy, according to their reviews here; 2-4” toppers under featherbeds and padded mattress covers, in addition to high-loft down duvets to make evenings cozy in the winter. And plenty of comfortable down pillows. Lots of high quality white towels provided. Complimentary coffee.

Confirmed guests can view, on this page, a list of nearby areas for biking, hiking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing, as well as places to eat in the area.

Come out soon. You can arrive the day after you make your reservation. We’re only a little over an hour from the Cities, and a world apart.

Magical Place to Stay

We were looking to recharge without having to drive too far away from the Twin Cities. This gem was the perfect spot. We enjoyed bird watching, kayaking and unplugging from our jobs. There were no neighbors in sight unless you count the deer. The beds were cozy and the cabin had everything we needed. We loved the decor as well: simple and stylish. Highly recommend!

Beautiful and well kept

My partner and I wanted a place to take a break from the city and get some work done. This lovely cabin was the perfect spot. The owner Elizabeth clearly cares very much about being an exceptional host and it really shows. I'd recommend this rental to anyone!

An amazing and peaceful retreat!

My husband and I stayed here for a full week to celebrate our anniversary. We loved our stay. The cabin was clean and modern. Fresh cut flowers in every room. We used the bluetooth surround sound every night to listen to music while we enjoyed a glass of wine and cooked dinner together. If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful retreat this place is it. The view of the river is gorgeous. We spent our mornings drinking coffee on the deck and our afternoons using the provided kayaks and canoe to explore the river. Liz checked in with us multiple times to ensure we had everything we needed and we were enjoying our stay. We usually try to never stay in the same place more than once but this place will be an exception to our rule. We will definitely be booking again!

The perfect quiet getaway

This was the perfect short three day trip. I needed a break from the city life to disconnect and recharge. From the cozy fireplace to seeing the beauty of nature right outside the front door, this is the perfect place to get away from the chaos. The check-in process was smooth. I arrived a little early, but my interaction with the owner was easy, simple, and lovely. Everything was exactly as listed. It was magnificently clean, and she even set up everything I needed to get a fire going. The property is also gorgeous. Being on secluded land means that you get all of the privacy you need for your getaway. The place has everything you need for relaxation: a cozy fireplace, a jet bathtub, feather pillows and comforters, and trees filled with birds to sing to you in the morning. Lastly, the communication with the owner was smooth and lovely. Looking forward to staying again in a different season. Thanks Liz!

Blissful Calm Retreat

We were looking for a place to get away and spend some quiet intentional time disconnecting from the rush of the city. This cabin was the absolute perfect getaway. With a gorgeous riverside location, plenty of wildlife, and solitude but including a cabin offering beautifully arranged and comfortable amenities. This stay was everything we hoped for and we felt so cared for. I will be recommending this place to my loved ones and we will absolutely be returning. Thanks again!

STUNNING!

This place is absolutely gorgeous! The river, the forest, the cabin, everything is picturesque. It's a stunning property with lots to do to truly connect with nature without feeling too off the grid. We hiked, we kayaked and even took the canoe out for a spin. The modern touches in the cabin like the jacuzzi are lovely. We had such a wonderful time and can't wait to book again! Thank you!

Thanks for a great vacation!

We had a wonderful time at this very unique property. It was toddler heaven. We loved spending time together as a family in the a-frame and taking daily canoe trips. We saw deer swimming, turkeys flying, beavers (or maybe the same beaver over and over), a fox, a big turtle, tiny frogs, big fish, ducks, and probably more. On clear nights, the stars shone in full force - no light pollution. Thanks again! We highly recommend this property.

Wonderful, Secluded Property!

My wife and I stayed in the wonderful A-frame following our wedding for a "mini-moon" in November. The property is private and secluded, and exactly what we were looking for to unwind following our hectic, fun-filled weekend. Elizabeth was responsive and thorough with her instructions, and even gives you a guide to the area which comes in handy. Would definitely recommend, and will likely be coming back for another stay!

Lovely and peaceful river cabin.

This is a great setting for any season. We loved staying cozy with the wood stove after exploring the woods in the snow, but would also love to return and see the river in spring or summer! Easy to find, great communication and very thoughtful touches throughout the cabin. I do have to note that the price seems a little high for what you get. The word "luxury" is mentioned a few times in the description, so we decided it must be worth the splurge. This is a VERY LOVELY little cabin, but not "luxury" enough to account for the higher price (we stay at rental properties fairly often, and have never paid this much). The bathroom, especially, while a just fine bathroom for a cabin, is certainly not luxury in our book. Also, the large deposit tied up for 3 months seemed excessive to us and something we have never been asked to do before. Again-this is a very nice cabin and great setting-just want others to be aware of a slight discrepancy (from our point of view) in description and pricing.

Fantastic fall get away

My wife and I stayed for a long anniversary weekend and could not of been happier. They home was ready for us when we showed up with simple instructions. The property is beautiful, right on the river with a nice deck/bench to sit an enjoy some morning coffee and listen to the birds. This property is very remote for those looking to get away from it all and enjoy peace and quiet. The fireplace kept us warm during rainy and chilly days, and the sound of rain on the roof was just as relaxing. I wish we had come more prepared to hike in the woods, and the path gets wild shortly. Canoe and kayaks are waiting for adventure, with the river very easy to navigate. My only regret was not being able to stay longer to get better weather, but that's what October deals you. I can't wait to stay during another season.

A beautiful and peaceful retreat by the river

We had a wonderful week by the river. The house was so well appointed and comfortable! Communication with Liz was fantastic. We enjoyed both our time on the property (watching the deer, taking our toddler out on the river in the canoe, basking in the peaceful surroundings) and our time finding local places to walk and hike. Some of our favorite spots were Glen Hills County Park, The Farm Table Restaurant, and Mommsen's Harvest Hills Pumpkin Patch and Orchard (it had an amazing play space for kids that included an area where they could hold kittens/bunnies and a corn pit to jump in!). We would come back in a heartbeat!

Peaceful riverfront get away

This quiet get away is a perfect place for those that want to be in nature without the hustle and bustle of city life. The check in and check out process was easy. There are plenty of amenities that bring you back to a simpler time before being plugged in to your phone or device 24/7. The scenery was pretty, and the river was undeveloped like seeing something from my childhood. There are plenty of wonderful shops within a 20 minute drive that support the local economies. I would strongly recommend to anyone that wants to unplug and unwind.

Heavenly getaway!

What an incredible getaway! Liz thought of everything to make us comfortable and cozy. Surrounded by nature and peace and quiet, my daughters and I never wanted to leave! Liz answered all my questions right away and is a wonderful host. We kayaked, meditated on the dock with the yoga mat and cushions provided, slept in on luxury bedding and got much needed R&R. Can’t wait to come back in the winter!

peaceful, serene, tranquil

If you want to get away and relax in a gentle, quiet setting this is the place for you. My wife and I stayed a week and never saw another soul while we were here at the cabin (but plenty of deer). We canoed the river, both up and down stream, watched the birds, read books - it was perfect. An added benefit was no cell service (AT&T). Yes you read that correctly. At first we thought it would be an inconvenience. Guess what - it made the stay all the more enjoyable. Texting still worked. Wifi worked for the iPad, but no phone calls. NONE. For a week. Try it sometime, it could be just what the doctor ordered.

About the host

Hosted by Elizabeth

Host profile image
I'm a children’s book artist and I purchased this amazing home as a studio and a private retreat for myself and my family. My two children experienced and learned so much about the natural world and it's creatures while playing freely and safely here. I love music and art and just soaking up the sun! I was once a songwriter, and I still love to write poetry and play jazz improv on the piano. I’ve spent many years meditating, and love this place for it's quiet and calm, and it's sounds: a million rains drops on the leaves of the forest, the uncommon natural birdsong, or the gentle rush of the breeze off the river.
I’ve enjoyed creating an experience of comfort and luxury here because it pairs so beautifully with the wild environment. I hope you and the people you love will enjoy immersing yourselves in the natural beauty of the land and water, just as we have. Your happiness makes me happy too.

What makes this property unique

This home is centered in 13 acres of forest, and is completely private. The river, just out the front door, casts a shimmering light through the leaves of the trees and into the inside the house. The sunsets are gorgeous. The night sky is pitch black out here, and you can stand in the dark and look up at the millions of stars and see the craters of the moon without a telescope. There are creatures everywhere. The quieter and more peaceful you are, the more they appear: deer, fox and otter, eagles and heron.
