Amazing

We had a great time at this property. Really liked that it was in a gated community. There was plenty of parking on cement (instead of sand). Plenty of space for 12 of all different ages. Was great to sit on the deck when unable to get to the beach. Management responded very quickly when there was an issue. Will definitely be returning.

It was well appointed. Smaller beds were not comfortable but others were. Other than slow WiFi it was a great place to rent. Owner has thought out things well. There was virtually nothing extra in terms of dishes or appliances that we needed. Great view also!

perfect family home

Bonnie Blue was amazing. We traveled with a group of 8 and the house was so spacious that it fit us all perfectly. The open floor plan for the community living area really allowed for all of us to be together, and we all fit at the same table! The deck is hands down the best amenity... on days where it was too windy to be on the sand, we were still able to enjoy the ocean and sun from the deck. Definitely the place to be if you are looking for a quiet, relaxed, slower vacation.

Amazing place

This place was way more than what the pictures showed. It is beautiful and everything we could have asked for in a relaxing, beach side, private home. We will definitely be back!

Great Winter Get-away!

The house was beautifully decorated, comfortable, and spacious. The location, gulf-front, was spectacular. We could watch the dolphins from the sand or the deck. We will be back again!

Great house and location…..but

House and neighborhood was nice. Hurricane Ida rolled through a week before, causing storm surge to wash up sand over the roads and apparently damage the boardwalk to the beach. All understandable, however, the damaged boardwalk had its stairs broken off. I called ahead and asked about the condition of the house before we drove 9 hours to the house, and was told that everything was fine and to come down. There were screws sticking out of the boardwalk, where the stairs were, and the stairs and other lumber was just tossed or washed up and left out in the open. There were also exposed screws on this lumber. There was also a small amount of broken glass on the boardwalk. There was also a significant amount of sand washed up on the concrete slab under the house, no real biggie there considering Ida. There was zero internet, unlike advertised. It wasn’t until we arrived, when we read that the internet could just not work, not a biggie considering being on an island and Ida. Other than the issue with the stairs and trash lumber with exposed screws and not being told about it when I called and asked, it was a great stay. The surf fishing was great. We really enjoyed the property after a little cleanup on “our” end. We had two 80+ year old women with use and the lack of the full boardwalk made it really difficult for them to make their way to the beach. The picture of the boardwalk and how it went strait to the beach, was a big attraction and a big disappointment when we found it unusable. The lumber with the screws was also a big let down, as we had our 4 year old daughter with us, so we had that to worry about and clean up, as much as we could. Still a great stay on a nice property in a nice neighborhood.

Winter Get Away

This was the perfect location for a winter get away from New England. It is a fabuous location, right on the water. Saw all kinds of birds - the local Osprey was in the tree right outside many mornings. Also saw the dolphins! Will definitely go back!

Why they chose this property

Dauphin Island, a wonder of nature and full of history is a barrier island on the Gulf . The population is about 1,300. The town is included in the Mobile metropolitan statistical area. The island was named for Louis XIV's great-grandson and heir, the Dauphin. Our 'laid-back' atmosphere is prized by folks who enjoy serenity and natural beauty.

The eastern, wider portion of the island, is shaded by thick stands of maritime pine trees, but the narrow, western part of the island features scrub growth and few trees.

Dauphin Island is home to Fort Gaines, Dauphin Island Sea Lab, The Estuarium public aquarium, the Dauphin Island Airport, boat ramps, a fishing pier located on the Island's eastern end, historic sites, several restaurants. Beaches attract tourism, and fishing is a popular activity in the waters around the island. The island is connected to the mainland by a 3.5 mile long bridge.

Although the entire island is a bird sanctuary, the main one is the 164-acre Audubon Bird Sanctuary. Dauphin Island is the first landfall encountered by many birds as they migrate north from Central and South America, and as a consequence many species can be found resting there before continuing their journey.

In 1519, the Spanish explorer Alonso Álvarez de Pineda was the first documented European to visit, staying long enough to map the island with remarkable accuracy.

The island's French history began on January 31, 1699, when the explorer Pierre Le Moyne, sieur d'Iberville, D'Iberville later decided to locate a port for Fort Louis de La Louisiane (Mobile). Fort Gaines on the eastern tip of the island was built between 1821 and 1848. It was occupied by Confederate forces in 1861, and captured by Federal troops during the Battle of Mobile Bay. The phrase, 'Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead,' was spoken by U. S. Admiral David Farragut just a few hundred yards from Dauphin Island's shore.

We love 'The Island' as much as we know you will!

What makes this property unique

The old walled Fort Gaines is on the east end of Dauphin Island. A ferry from nearby Fort Morgan in Gulf Shores brings both vehicles and pedestrians to the island. One of the closest attractions to the ferry dock is The Estuarium, located at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab...a fresh- and saltwater aquarium highlighting species native to coastal Alabama.
