You won't find Tranquility Bay on a map of Newfoundland, so its best you not dedicate too much time to that effort at the moment. We'll get to that in a moment....
Described by a local business man as "the nicest piece of property in Trinity Bay", our "cottage" at Tranquility Bay, is just one hour from St. John's. Nestled on a quiet corner overlooking Trinity Bay, this property features complete privacy, a private beach, a Hydropool Self-Cleaning Hot Tub and a newly renovated property all throughout.
Understanding that the location of this property simply can not be beat, the actual home consisted of an orginal cottage built circa 1974, and an extension built circa 2000. The orginal cottage has been extensively renovated in 2016 with a nautical theme and a Cape Cod beach house in mind. New everything except for some old hardwood flooring to maintain a hint of the old. "New" meaning we took the entire roof structure out and went back to the beginning - wiring, heating, air conditioning, kitchen, bathroom, fireplace and furniture. All is new as of 2016. The original cottage is what we had envisioned it to be and it is beautiful.
The extension has been partially renovated and now features a sitting room with a view to behold. This part of the home offers up the 3 extra bedrooms on the 2nd floor - two with bay windows that provide the best panoramic view you can imagine. There is also a gain of 2 1/2 bathrooms in this area.
Outside, the property is situated on 2 acres with plenty of grass and green space to play bocce ball, throw a football or baseball or to simply walk around. In places the rocky cliffs are quite steep and care should be taken when sitting for your morning coffee. To the left while facing the ocean there is a short scramble to "Treasure beach" (as named by our 7-year old son) which is nestled beneath much higher cliffs. Directly in front is a private beach where we spend most of our time with our children.
Getting back to the location, "Tranquilty Bay is found on the edge of the little hamlet of Dildo, NL. That is about as gentle as we can say it with a name that garners reactions from a blush and giggle to down right offending people. This town is a great place to take a stroll, meet the local artisans, fisherman and gift store folk. Visitors to the cottage from May to October find themselves watching seals, whales, tuna, eagles and at one point hundreds and hundreds of butterflies! Overall, the scenery is exceptional, the pace is perfect and the convenience of being just one hour from the airport makes it truly a complete escape close to home.
