Perfect place for familiies

We are 2 families of 3, each from San Francisco, CA and having a 4 year old daughter. We stayed for a week and absolutely loved it! The caretakers we amazing, making sure the place stayed clean and we were well taken care of. We also hire on Lupe to cook us 2 meals per day, which were great -- especially with local fish always available from local fishermen. The place is comfortable, clean, and set up well to hang out and relax -- by the pool or at the beach -- both very clean and in the case of the beach, great for little kids to wade in. Everyone we encountered was super friendly and helpful. One day Patricia and her husband took us on a tour of the countryside (Ruta de Flores), where we stopped at a coffee plantation which was a highlight for me. All in all, it was a great time and a place I would recommend to anyone.

Great secluded beach house

I stayed here for a week with my family who was visiting from the US. From the first time I contacted the owner, she was extremely helpful and gave me tips and advice for the trip. The house is very clean and well kept and the pool area is perfect for relaxing and reading a book. Julio the groundskeeper was also extremely helpful, and gave us a great boat tour of the mangrove forest. I'd definitely stay here again.

Come prepared and you will have a wonderful time

If we were to rate on value, it is a 5, overall we give it a 4. First, the pictures and description are accurate. The pool is really nice and the rest of the accommodations are very nice, but not luxury if that is what you are looking for. The beach is beautiful, secluded and not very busy. The owners Patricia and Carlos went above and beyond our expectations to make our trip enjoyable and comfortable. The staff Julio and Lupe were both very attentive to our needs - they speak only Spanish so come prepared for that. We would highly recommend renting a 4-wheel drive vehicle as the roads in El Salvador are not very good, the last 7 km leading to Mar de Oro is a dirt road that is minimally maintained and you do have to drive a short distance through the sand beach to reach the house. We felt very safe in this part of El Salvador and would recommend this property, everything is as advertised.

An excellent get away

My family is large so this house is great 3 comfy bedrooms.. 3 bathrooms..(outside counts). I can't put words to how relaxing it to walk to your beach front pool. Then to the beach as you want all day.. Great for the kids. The kitchen is new and excellent, there is fish market in town where you can stop and buy pounds of shrimp and other large fish at bargain prices compared to our markets. The real gem of this house is the night time star gazing and quite…. You need 4x4 to reach the drive way..It is really close off the main road and on the beach. I got stuck with my 4x4 in there front drive way. If you doubt park next to and their grounds/security guard will gladly assist in carrying your bags over. The owner of the next door b&b is her family. All the parking is gated. I have gone 5-6 times to the area never had problem.. Not an issue just warning don't try driving on the sand in dry season unless your good at it…I did have several people quickly stopped to dig me out…It was nice... Summary: House is big and clean, pool, beach, mangroves and releasing sea turtles are all great. Stars at night and playing on the beach with my munchkins was priceless…I never give 5 stars because nothing is perfect.

Peaceful and quaint beach get-away

Though our stay was short, we enjoyed our time at Mar de Oro. The house offered a very comfortable outdoor living area with plenty of room to lounge where we relaxed to the sounds and the breezes from the ocean waves nearby. We loved the vibrant colors that accentuated the different parts of the house and also as there was no one on the beach, it was as though we had it to ourselves. The staff- Julio and Lupe- are very friendly and helpful, particularly in finding us options for delicious meals. I would highly recommend Mar de Oro to anyone seeking a nice, peaceful and comfortable getaway that is located right on the beach.

Just Wonderful!- violeta

My family and I spent 3 nights and 4 days at this beautiful beach house, we are sure to return! We loved the layout of the property and the tasteful decoration. It has all the amenities: a good size pool with shade, a spectacular beach, the estuary at the back of the property, a well equipped kitchen, air conditioned rooms and great staff! We ate the freshest fish (red snapper) we have ever had, the person that we hired through the property owners kept everything spotless and was an amazing cook - I could completely relax! And then there is Julio - the property caretaker - who can arrange for anything you want. He took us to the protected mangrove area and it was great: we saw many beautiful birds (kingfishers, water birds, herons and others that I could not identify and had never seen before). He made the arrangements for renting a kayak and for surfing lessons for our teenage boys! I was surprised at how safe and peaceful it was. We walked on the beach at night enjoying the stars without any worry at all. I can't forget to mention the delicious freshly cut and cooled coconuts that were waiting for us at our arrival! My husband and my 3 teenage sons loved it as much as I did! If you are thinking of going to the beach in El Salvador, no place can beat "Mar de Oro" in beauty, peace, safety, nature and value!

Clean, Private, Secure Paradise!!!

After searching for a while I came across "Mar De Oro". I contacted (Patricia ) the owner while in the states and arranged to meet her once in San Salvador. Patricia is a sweet heart and was accommodating from the start. I explained that I needed confirmation that the place was safe since I was taking my teenage daughter and nieces. After meeting her and her husband in person I knew I was dealing with respectable and decent people. She explained the layout and how to get there. We exchanged payment and receipts and I headed towards the Barra de Santiago the next day. Once I pulled out from the main road into the access road, it was awesome. You travel through a road with sugar cane plantations, rivers and nice scenery until you reach the town at the Barra De Santiago. You then continue to a more isolated and private part of the statuary and beach and end up in this beautiful place. Beach on one side and canal on the other. Plenty of tropical vegetation and a clean beach. You then walk into the ranch and are greeted by the care taker (Julio ) with coconuts in hand and you smile because it is just like the pictures, clean, spacious, clean and clear pool. Plenty of outdoor sitting and hammocks. The place is very tastefully decorated. Loved the rooms with wooden plank floors. Clean showers and bathrooms. I opted for having a cooking /cleaning person for a minimal extra fee and that made the difference. We had 10 persons in my party and purchased all the groceries that were necessary to be self sufficient. Carlita was so sweet and attentive. She cooked , grilled and treated us to some authentic cooking. there are also groceries in town and can speak to care taker to pick up any necessary items you may have forgotten.Although you may not have everything available in town. There is also a small fresh seafood restaurant a boat ride's away. Here you can enjoy the pool , enjoy the beach, walk to the estuary or ride a lancha to the bocana for a swim. We rented for 3 days, we would stay in the pool till late hours of the night with the waves breaking and the clear sky full of stars. It was like I imagined. My daughter and nieces loved it and we this place is special..so special that I could not resist and went back for another day the week after with other members of my family.. BTW ..this place is right next door to a chic resort which charges an insane amount per person for the same setting that you get at Mar de Oro..I shall return. Thank you !!

Paradise

Our stay was dream of total relaxation. To be right on the beach with the ocean a few feet from the house was a treat. The beach is very private to enjoy by yourself. The pictures depict how beautiful the house is and the perfect location.
