Guest Access:
NOTE: It is necessary to take a passenger only ferry to Daufuskie Island. We can help you with logistics by providing options for renting a golf cart, booking ground transportation and ferry reservations.

1) Daufuskie Rental Group makes a good faith effort to describe island amenities, including restaurants and pools. However, please note that we are not responsible for the availability of amenities that we do not operate and that are beyond our control. Please contact the vendors directly for rates, days and hours of operation.

2) Your rental agreement contract's cancellation policy states that we are not responsible for events that are beyond our control, such as hurricanes. We strongly encourage our guests to purchase travel insurance, and especially recommend "cancel for any reason" policies. (These must be purchased shortly after your reservation is made.)

The Neighborhood:
Location, location, location! The beautiful and spacious Blue Fuskie Cottage provides its lucky renters with a front row view of the Atlantic Ocean that has to be seen to be appreciated. Talk about a WOW factor!! Imagine yourself driving on your rented golf cart through a quiet road lined with Live Oaks draped with Spanish moss, pulling up to the back entrance of your vacation home, walking into your bright and spacious living room, and being greeted with a dazzling panorama of the ocean and blue sky just beyond. Trust us…It just doesn’t get any better than this!

You will find yourself strolling from your cottage to the beach over and over. This pristine and secluded beach is perfect for long walks, jogging, and even bike riding. (No golf carts here, though! This is a nesting area for the endangered Loggerhead Turtles.) Families especially enjoy the relatively calm waters where children can swim and play without fear of a strong undertow. It’s a great beach for building sand castles and hunting for shells and sand dollars after the tide goes out.

The wildlife is abundant and breathtaking. The resort is the home of a Great White Egret rookery, where you will see hundreds of these graceful birds settle in for the night. A nest of American Bald Eagles can be seen now and then, and some lucky visitors can actually catch site of a Loggerhead Turtle coming ashore to lay hundreds of eggs in the soft sand.

You will want to spend time exploring the rest of this unique and special island. Accessible only by ferry, Daufuskie's isolation from the hustle and bustle of the mainland provides a one-of-its-kind experience for those looking to truly get away from it all.

Picture perfect - inside and out!

My stay at Blue Fuskie was restorative beyond compare. The flora and fauna of the island, as well as its residents, were uniquely welcoming. Dafuskie is the ultimate retreat full of natural beauty, with warm sun and surf and moonlit nights by the sea.

Relaxing Beach Vacation

Beautiful property for a simple and relaxing family vacation. We enjoyed waking up to the beautiful ocean view, spending countless hours on the beach and driving around on the golf cart exploring the uniqueness of Daufuskie. Tons of wildlife, culture and wonderful people! Can’t wait to return!

Peaceful

This is a wonderful place to stay. It had a nice kitchen and well furnished. The golf cart was there and ready when we got there. I loved waking up to the sun rise over Hiltonhead and the ocean every morning.

Wonderful time!

Had a great stay! The cottage was well equipped and very comfortable, and the view of the water was just amazing and perfect for view of sunrises. Deborah was very helpful and overall the only complaint I have is that our schedules did not allow a longer stay. We will plan on return and invite families and friends!

Family Retreat

The cottage was perfect for our family of four...it has an updated kitchen, open porch on the back of the house, nice wood floors throughout the home, furniture was in excellent condition, and the linens were clean and top quality on the beds. We will be renting this place again if we can.

great getaway

We hadn't been to Daufuskie in years and still absolutely enjoyed our stay. ( even though there have been major changes on the island.) We were blessed with beautiful weather and still just love exploring the island. The house location is perfect. We love that you have such beautiful views from the house. Also, the kitchen is very well equipped.

Perfect getaway to relax and recharge

We loved this vacation. After the last few years of big trips to Europe, we were ready for a truly relaxing getaway with our 3 young adult kids and Daufuskie definitely fit the bill. Our cottage was perfect - clean, spacious, the beach steps out the back screened porch. Golf cart and bikes made exploring the island fun. We mostly stayed in to cook but enjoyed Lucy Bells, Coffee Grounds, Melrose Beach Club and Ernestine's Crab Truck at the Freeport Marina for a few meals out. We loved the Iron Fish Gallery and our guided kayak tour too. During the health crisis, we especially enjoyed not facing crowds at the beach. Truly a lovely place to visit with our family!

We discovered a new island!

Simply everything exceeded our expectations! The house was wonderful and the location was superb. We brought breakfast items and groceries for about 1/2 of our meals and ate out the rest. Our fav was within walking distance at Melrose. Deborah did a fantastic job of making sure we had worked out the transportation details beforehand and checked in on us a couple of time during our stay. Just the right amount of customer service without going overboard. A great get-a-way! We will be back!

Beautiful Place

We have absolutely enjoyed our week here. My husband and I stayed at Melrose 19 years ago and our oldest daughter who is 14 came last year with friends and begged for us to come here for our vacation this summer. We are so glad we came! Things have changed a bit since we were here 19 years ago, but we have loved every minute of it. If you love the outdoors, you would love Daufuskie-from bike riding, to horseback riding or just sitting on the porch. The scenery is breathtaking and the people here have been very nice and helpful. We love the cottage. Beautifully decorated inside and out! We will definitely plan a vacation here again!

Wonderful, relaxing spot!

It was our first visit to Daufuskie Island, but it definitely won't be our last. Daufuskie is a wonderful and relaxing place to vacation. We stayed in the Blue Fuskie Cottage which suited our needs perfectly. Deborah was wonderful and attentive in providing us with information we needed for our trip and while we were on the island. She and her crew had the cottage in tip top shape when we arrived. We were pleased with the cleanliness of the entire cottage and the availability of things we would need while there (i.e., golf cart, dishes, utensils, beach chairs, etc.) We had such fun relaxing on the beach and exploring the entire island. It definitely will not be our only trip to Daufuskie! I would highly recommend contacting Deborah Smith if you ever want to visit Daufuskie. Her customer service rates a 10.

In love with Daufuskie

My friend and I recently stayed for a week at Blue Fuskie Cottage and fell in love with Daufuskie Island. The cottage is quite spacious and the bedrooms are separated so there is a lot of privacy. You have a direct view of the ocean out the back door and access to the beach. There is a lovely pool within walking distance if you tire of the beach. Deborah was a wonderful host and responsive to our needs. She even brought us a lantern one night during a severe rainstorm in case the lights went out. Daufuskie Island is quirky and charming. We made many friends during out jaunts around the island in a golf cart. The only reason for the 4 stars was the lack of restaurants. However, it was our understanding that a third restaurant would we opening the week after we left. It is very close to the cottage. We loved the people, atmosphere and food at Lucy Belle's. We hope to return to Daufuskie for a longer stay.

A Good Time Was Had By All !

Like so many people, I have been feeling the stress of all that is going on, business, and the pace of life. I realized I needed a vacation and the thought of staying at a crowded hotel and not being able to get out when I needed just did not interest me. I went on line and saw this beautiful house and realized this is where I wanted/needed to stay. I reserved the house before talking with my Wife but she agreed that this place looked great! When we got there, the property was as beautiful as the pictures and we spent 4 relaxing days listening to the waves looking at the amazing views. I had plans for so many things, but the house was so relaxing and comfortable that I spent most of the time in a state of bliss. The house had everything I would have imagined and we wanted for nothing. This was one of the best vacations we've ever had and will be going back to Daufuskie on a regular basis. We are counting the days when we can return!

Exotic Island Adventure

My wife & I spent 10 fabulous days in the Blue Fuskie cottage on Daufuskie Island. Before you climb the low country style stairs to the poach, you know that you're in for an exciting adventure. Once you enter the front door, you can see completely through the massive living room, all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. This well appointed cottage has 2 very large master suites, each with beautiful full baths, with showers big enough for a party. The kitchen is complete with new appliances and all the hardware that you need for preparing snacks or gourmet dinners. The laundry is spacious and has new washer & dryer that performs perfectly. There is plenty of storage throughout the house & even has a bonus half bath off the great room. If all this sounds great, just wait until you see the huge screened porch on the beach side; there's room for several Adirondack chairs & a bistro table & 2 chairs. A complimentary golf cart, for touring the island, completes the package. Last year, we spent a month in New England, & the year before, a month in Paris and I'm sincere in saying that this was the as unique in its own way, as the other two.

Blue Fuskie is a little piece of Heaven!

This might have been the first real vacation (meaning we acutally relaxed and enjoyed ourselves and didn't feel like we needed to be on the go all the time) we've ever had as a family! I was a little worried at first, being on an island without all the things we have come to think we need, but with the detailed emails and info that Deborah Smith porvided us, we were very well prepared! She not only helped us prepare for the trip, she was a great help and so easy to contact while on the island. Follow her advise and you can't go wrong! The cottage itself was amazing, great views and stocked with anything we might need! The island was great, all the locals are so very nice and some became friends by the end of our visit! We enjoyed an evening kayak tour through the marsh and even rented paddle boats one day at the beach! The food at the 4 restaurants was even better than we expected! The Melrose Beach Club became our favorite, the chef is terrific and I'd recommend the Shrimp and Grits! To die for!! We loved the laidback vibe of Marshside Mamas and Daufuskie Crab- you can literally go from the beach to the dining table! When they say this is a casual island, they mean it...Don't be an over packer like me! Blue Fuskie has a washer and dryer and you only need a few outfits to get by! We loved touring the island via golf cart and loved taking our kids to the historic sites. We didn't want our time on Daufuskie to end and are already talking about the next visit!

Wonderful Vacation!

We stayed from July 4-11 and had a wonderful time. We were looking for a getaway location on the beach with small crowds. We were not disappointed. We had this cottage which is beautifully decorated and was more equipped than any other place we have stayed. At the time we were there the cottage also had extra beach chairs, beach toys, and even an umbrella. The inside had plenty of extra linens and pillows. The section of beach the cottage was on never had more than 3-5 families at a time. My children loved to play along the beach and we never had to worry about them getting lost in a crowd. Melrose Beach Club and Restaurant has great food! They have an excellent staff that will help you with anything you need from chairs to food to drinks. The pools at the beach club are very nice! Planning is a must! Deborah and the rental group send you all the information and contact numbers you need, however you have to call and make arrangements. Due to the busy time we were there, we planned our boat arrival and departures and ordered groceries 3 weeks ahead. Plan appropriately for groceries because we did not had had to order more. It was easy to do and cyber valet and may river excursions were very helpful, but that was an extra delivery for everyone. We had a wonderful visit to a very beautiful island. We had fun exploring the island on the golf cart and just being at the beach and pool without the crowds. Our children also enjoyed the playground and picnic area next to the pool. Even though our children are young (2,3,6) we can definitely see Daufuskie Island as also being a place to visit with teens.

Fantastic Family Getaway!

I cannot say enough about Daufuskie and this particular property. The cottage is beautiful and in the perfect location. While it is a duplex, not once were we made aware of the renters on the other side. It 100% feels like your own house. The bedrooms are huge with very comfortable beds--the showers are awesome...better than my own home! The view from the living room/sunporch is spectacular. The ocean is just steps away--and from the beach in front of the cottage we enjoyed quiet and private morning walks, lazy afternoons in the sun and excellent fishing! You could enjoy your whole vacation without leaving this beautifully decorated, comfortable cottage. But you should leave and explore! The island is the most unique and amazing place. We visited School Grounds coffee shop almost every day and visited with friendly locals--not to mention Brian and Pam, the incredibly hospitable owners! Lucy Belle's is a great stop for a delicious (and HUGE portioned) lunch--and the Daufuskie Crab Co. provides a lively crowd for a weekend dinner...right by the water. The artisans at The Iron Fish Gallery, The Daufuskie Rum Co. and Silver Dew Pottery are amazing! From Brandi the golf cart gal to the kind local man who gave my teenage son ocean fishing tips...the people of Daufuskie are what made this vacation truly special. They are all so friendly and interesting. Deborah was like having our own concierge. We were able to text her any time with questions and she responded immediately. She is a true expert on how to get the full Daufuskie experience-and takes great pride in her job. You won't be disappointed if you rent this or any other of her properties. Another highlight was the church service on Sunday. The locals were so inviting--it's a great experience no matter your religion. The church itself is a piece of history and we felt like we were really experiencing a part of America that is not often seen. We were so glad we made the effort to do this on the first full day of our trip--we highly recommend it. If you're looking for a unique experience and to get away from the hustle of tourist traps and the "grid"....Daufuskie is the place. We are so thankful to have found it--and to have had the opportunity to show our 15 and 18 year olds this simplicity and to have them experience first hand that we are all so much more the same than different. Thank you Deborah--and thank you Daufuskie! We will be back! The Klein Family Omaha, NE

About the host

Hosted by Daufuskie Rental Group Team

Host profile image
The owners are a Virginia family who love Daufuskie and enjoy visiting Daufuskie as often as possible. They enjoy sharing the beautiful Blue Fuskie Cottage with vacation visitors.

This property is managed by Daufuskie Rental Group, a Daufuskie-based team. (DRG's owner, Deborah Smith, lives across from the Blue Fuskie Cottage and is available to help 24/7.)

Why they chose this property

Quite simply, this vacation home has it all! Lovely cottage, unsurpassed ocean and beach views and...most of all...situated on Daufuskie Island, one of the best-kept secrets on the Eastern coast of the United States.

What makes this property unique

The gorgeous Blue Fuskie Cottage is located on one of the best-kept secrets on the eastern coasts: Daufuskie Island. Your home overlooks 2 miles of pristine, quiet beaches where all you can hear is the sound of gentle waves and beautiful shore birds. Watch the shrimp boats, bike along the beach, take a Historic tour and discover the Gullah History of Daufuskie or take in a round of golf. Don't forget to try our island delicacy, deviled crabs! Better still, we'll help arrange a full low-country dinner prepared by a local resident to be delivered directly to your cottage.

Daufuskie has several unique and colorful restaurants where you'll swear you're in the middle of the Caribbean, as well as the casual but upscale Eagle's Nest at Bloody Point.

History buffs will enjoy exploring the island and visiting various sites providing a glimpse into the past, including the recently-restored Oyster House used as a 19th century Gullah meeting place, the Billie Burns Museum, ancient cemeteries, and the two-room school house where renowned author Pat Conroy taught and which was the subject of his first book, The Water is Wide.

Those interested in unique shopping opportunities will want to visit the Iron Fish Art Gallery, the Silver Dew Pottery, Wine and Woodworks, and the Daufuskie Rum Company. And you certainly don't want to miss the Daufuskie Island Community Farm, where old and young visitors alike are encouraged to help feed the chickens and even to try milking a goat!
