About this property

Delightful Moulin with Private Heated Saltwater Pool, WiFi, 20 mins from coast

Le Moulin de Beaumont is situated on its own, just 20 minutes from the beautiful Atlantic beaches, 3 golf courses, and in an area steeped in history. This typical old stone Charentaise mill house has been fully renovated to provide a light, airy place to stay with all modern facilities. Set within two acres, the moulin benefits from a secluded walled and terraced, private heated salt water pool, which has ambient lighting so you can swim all night or just enjoy balmy warm evenings by the pool. All the moulin's facilities are for the sole use of the guests. Its 3 bedrooms, bathroom, additional en suite shower room, open plan well equipped kitchen/dining/living area, sitting room with wood burner, sofas and a further sitting room with French 'day bed' for those afternoon snoozes means there is plenty of space to enjoy the charms of this mill house. With central heating and double glazing for the cooler months, Le Moulin de Beaumont really is the perfect place to stay all year round.

Le Moulin's Exclusive Use of Heated Saltwater Pool & Gardens: Le Moulin de Beaumont's guests have exclusive use of pool and gardens; they are not shared, like many other houses and there is no owner on site or living next door. It really is just for you to relax in.

Its peaceful setting is surrounded by open countryside, where farmers grow fruit and vegetables along with sunflowers and vines. The stream, with a woodland backdrop, forms a wonderful natural border along one whole side of the garden. The old millstream itself still runs under the garage and through the garden and can be crossed by a charming wooden bridge. The garden has proved to be a wildlife haven and is often home to families of ducks, moorhens and coots. Kingfishers are also regular visitors and upstream a family of otters have been spotted. If you're up early enough you may well see the deer who come to drink from the stream.

There is also plenty of space for balls games, badminton, boules etc, too - all of which are provided.

Coast/Beach: The nearest beaches are about 20 minutes away by car at Meschers. These are small coves with sandy beaches which are perfect for younger members of the family to go rock pooling and experience gentle waves. Further along the coast at St Georges de Didonne & Royan, there are huge sweeping beaches with lots of space, some water sports & full safety patrols. North of Royan is the Grand Cote - several miles of sandy beaches with some local beach patrols & a little further is the Cote Sauvage, with good sandy beaches but where the rollers come in off the Atlantic and therefore, perfect for surfers. The three islands, Ile de Re, Ile d'Oleron and Ile D'Aix off the coast of the Charente Maritime, are particularly interesting for lovers of the coast and sea and each has its own different characteristics.

Cycling, Walking, Places to Visit: With over 2500km of cycle routes in the Charente-Maritime, many quiet lanes to cycle along, as well as a great cycle track through the pine trees at the Grand Cote, there couldn't be a better way to discover the area. It is also possible to hire bikes which can be delivered straight to the mill house for your convenience. (There are also a couple you can use at the mill house.) Guests have found it is the perfect area for cycling, especially as it is fairly flat with gentle hills. Along with cycle there are many walks along the cliff tops are breath taking and not to be missed. A series of guide books and maps of trails are available at tourist offices, as well as at the mill house.

There are so many wonderful places to see in this interesting region of France with its rich Roman and Medieval history. The Moulin has several excellent guide books, along with a folder containing alsorts of information on places to visit, sites to see and restaurants to dine in.

Peace and quiet in an amazing property

Can’t speak highly enough of le moulin-the house is well equipped, clean and spacious, and the pool was brilliant for all the family. The welcome basket was a very pleasant surprise, probably the most generous we have ever experienced. We particularly enjoyed the abundance of wildlife, my 7year old daughter loved our evening frog walks by the stream, and waiting for the bats to come out. Three generations of our family returned home tanned and relaxed!

FIVE STARS-FACT!

On arrival we were overwhelmed by the generous welcome pack of food and wine...These thoughtful touches were evident throughout our stay with the inclusion of toiletries and a useful folder covering appliances guides and day trip/ shopping information. The mill was immaculately clean and well maintained with every conceivable requirement covered. The gardens were vast and provided plenty of entertainment - big enough for cricket playing, even! The pool (I confess to feeling dubious of a solar heating type) was amazing- the best yet in all our trips to villas. We ventured out on the bikes to the boulangerie, which was only 10 minutes away, and most welcoming. I would strongly recommend this property as there is something for all ages. The downstairs bedroom and bathroom layout makes it a versatile choice. We have been raving about the whole experience- book it early to avoid disappointment!

Beautiful gite in peaceful setting

This is the nicest villa we have ever stayed in. It was bright, clean, comfortable , spacious and very private. It is close enough to a local bakery for morning croissants, and only 10 minutes from the supermarket. Lovely beaches and towns within 40 minutes drive. The pool was nice, and warmed up the second week which was a great bonus.

Marvellous Moulin

We have stayed at the Moulin three times, in June, September and April and we have always enjoyed our stay. It is always spotlessly clean and very well equipped. With a large garden and private pool it's perfect. The Moulin is in a lovely quiet area with an abundance of wildlife including kingfisher which we had not seen before. There are good beaches nearby and culture vultures won't be disappointed either as there are historic places to visit too. Don't take our word for it, just book it!

Wonderful old mill house

A beautiful setting and a house which is better equipped than most holiday places. Great with small children and lots of extras such as badminton in the garden and pool toys. Lovely area to explore and good beaches too.

Fabulous homely property with genuine character

My partner and I have just returned from this property and can honestly say that it is one of the prettier properties we have rented. The atmosphere of the property and the area is relaxing and the property itself is spotlessly clean, well looked after and a real home from home. We would have no reservations at all to recommend this to all interested parties.

A beautiful place with something for everyone.

Having visited the area many times, we found this house ideal in its rural setting. Everything was clean and tidy. The welcome basket on arrival was much appreciated as we’d had a long drive and didn’t need to go out for food until the next day. The folder with lots of information and restaurants recommended from a personal view point rather than just tourist leaflets was excellent. Chez Moulin is within half an hour’s drive to some spectacular, beaches, is just half an hour to Cognac, Saintes etc for some history and perfect for following the historic Saintonge route. We enjoyed the large garden with solar heated pool and the good off road parking was an important consideration for us. We thoroughly recommend Chez Moulin.

Chez Moulin - A perfect holiday for all the family

This was our first visit to Chez Moulin (Aug ‘10) and this part of France and wanted to escape the rat race of London. We were holidaying with another family and had children of varying ages (including teenagers). Chez Moulin was perfect and lived up to our hopes and expectations. The directions were spot on and when we arrived it was exactly as had been described. The welcome pack was much appreciated and it meant that we could immediately relax and explore without the pressure of having to think of getting the basics in. The outside space and setting was exactly what we were looking for, with plenty of separate areas for people to enjoy the summer sun, it was an added bonus to have a running stream through the garden. The boys spent hours just playing about with the water. The inside space worked just as well and the large kitchen / dining room was where we all gathered at the end of the day. But the best thing was the heated illuminated swimming pool, with the poolside fridge, for those night time dips! We used the bicycles to cycle to the boulangerie most mornings for a French loaf and pastries for breakfast (how very French!); the supermarket is a short drive away. There is a local fishery a few of minutes away by car. The locals were very friendly and set our teenagers up with rods etc. We went back to collect them at midday, where we all enjoyed a great lunch. They were very happy and wanted to spend the rest of the day there. When we collected them in the evening, they had caught enough fish for us all to enjoy on the barbeque that evening. What a perfect way for teenagers to escape the modern world. The folder with the guide to the local area proved invaluable. We visited ‘Le Poste’ which has an Australian Michelin chef which was fantastic and inexpensive. We also dined at ‘Le Cottage’ where we had delicious food and you can even have a pint of Guinness! We especially loved Tina’s Café an intimate setting right on the beach at Meschers, where they serve basic food (buffet style) with live music late into the night. Our favourite beach ‘Cote Sauvage’ was further away (approx an hour) where you can really swim in the breakers. On a day trip to the Bordeaux region we visited St Emilion, well worth a visit. We visited many local markets and thoroughly enjoyed sampling the local produce although not sure about cheval… This was the perfect break away, will definately return.

Great french experience for the family

We stayed at Chez Moulin in August. The house is spacious and comfortable and the owners have made a great effort to provide those "little extras" that are often missing in rental properties. (There was a great selection of books, DVDs and both indoor and outdoor games). The children loved exploring the garden and the pool (which is heated) was a huge hit too. We cycled to get our bread from the nearby village and there is a well stocked supermarket about five minutes drive away. A trip to the coast is a must. The sandy beaches stretch for miles and were amazingly quiet considering it was August.

Chez Moulin provides a wonderful holiday location

We stayed at Chez Moulin in late September and had the most wonderful time. Arriving late in the day, it really was a welcome to have a "Welcome pack" waiting for us! The mill house was just as described, with a well-equipped kitchen, two comfortable seating areas for relaxing indoors (with Sky tv, dvd player and a hi-fi) and a choice of seating areas outside - by the pool, on the patio, under the trees or indeed anywhere in the large garden. The bedrooms/sleeping arrangements were flexible and comfortable, with plenty of storage space, and it was useful to have a separate toilet and fully equipped bathroom. We had a great time by the pool, it was even warm enough (just) for a swim at 11pm! Our favourite time of day was early evening, either by the pool or on the patio with a glass of wine or a cold beer, watching the sun go down. There is plenty to do in the area and we found the folder full of tourist office leaflets, recommendations for local restaurants and advice about local facilities really useful. Would really recommend Tina's Cafe on Meschers-sur-Gironde beach if you like live jazz. We visited some of the local markets (as recommended in the folder) as well as spending days at La Rochelle (well worth the drive) and Cognac. Pons, a medieval town, was lovely too. We took advantage of the bikes in the garage and did a circuit of some of the local villages. We could have played badminton too, but ran out of time as there was so much else we could do. We will have to return to see the rest of the area and, as we had such a wonderfully relaxing time in the mill house, we will definitely want to stay at Chez Moulin again. Can't wait!

A beautiful, tranquil hideaway

We spent ages researching for the perfect spot for a holiday in August 2010 with our two young children. Turning down the lane to Chez Moulin, we knew we were on to a winner. It is totally and utterly private, a real escape. The mill house is delightful, set in beautiful grounds with stream, trees and borders - perfect for picnics, games of cricket and boules, and running around with the kids. There is a terrace overlooking the stream where we barbequed every evening, listening to the chorus of frogs and the drone of the dragonflies as the sun went down – truly beautiful. The pool area is nothing short of brilliant. It gets the sun all day and is walled round one side so it gets top marks for privacy. It has an eating area with sunshade so it was easy to take a break from swimming to tuck into baguette, cheese and pate while the kids lay on towels colouring-in or playing with stickers. There is also a poolside fridge/freezer which meant we didn't need to go far for that cold beer or icecream! Being heated, we could swim in the pool morning, noon and night – and it has large roman steps so we could all just hang out and relax – very important for us with a 2 and 4 year old who can’t yet swim very well on their own. There is also good provision of pool toys to mess around with. The mill house itself is light, airy and very welcoming. It is clean, well equipped, has music system and Sky TV, a wonderful kitchen/family room downstairs, and galleried living room upstairs with gorgeous daybed to lounge upon when you want to escape the midday sun. The children also relaxed here watching their DVDs after a long day in the pool while we cracked open a bottle of wine downstairs! The property is in a wonderful location, well-connected with supermarkets, trips to the beach, cycling routes (2 adult bikes provided), vineyards, or regional towns such as Saintes or Cognac. If you have children, or just love animals, a trip to the award-winning La Palmyre Zoo is a must – buy popcorn at the gate and hand-feed giraffes, zebra and elephants – it really is an up-close-and-personal experience. With its central heating and heated swimming pool, together with its placement in an area steeped in medieval history, we wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Chez Moulin for a fabulous, Spring or Autumn holiday destination too. It was so easy to make a home-from-home here; some very happy childhood memories have been made for our girls and we will certainly return.
