The property Highland Hideaway has a great backyard, but the actual cabin is too dark dirty. The bathroom feels like you were outside. A cold breeze, blows through one window and goes out the other one, even though the windows are closed the shower was too short to even stand in for somebody who's 5'10 and it's not actually a shower it's a tub. I was not impressed with the cabin. The front door wouldn't close it kept blowing open couch had stains,It was filthy.

well, it's better than camping

The pictures on the internet are misleading by a lot. Don't mind a small place but this cabin is rundown, towel racks falling off the wall, no dresser or closet for clothes, kitchen is lacking any space, didn't even have a spatula. poor lighting throughout, especially bad in the bathroom. Will definitely not be staying here again.

Hideaway Retreat

We truly enjoyed our weekend away. It was very relaxing and fun for us and our pup. The huge backyard was a plus for him to enjoy, as well as close walk to hikes.

Nice cabin

The cabin is very cute and loved the fenced backyard for my little dogs. Great place to get away and plenty of places to take your dogs for a walk. Enjoyed my stay and the cabin had everything needed.

Comfy cabin with a huge yard

This was the perfect little cabin for my girlfriend and two dogs. It is super close to everything in town and quiet. The yard was fantastic for our two dogs to explore and play.

Great Management Company

Very friendly and helpful staff. We had an issue with the initial cabin (hence the rating), but they switched us to a great alternative quickly and without issue.

Super relaxing

This was my first solo trip and I took my dog with me. The cabin was absolutely perfect for a short getaway. It was clean, safe, and my dog absolutely loved the fenced backyard which was a nice peace of mind for me as well. Would come back for sure!

Great weekend getaway

Great place to stay for 2 people for the weekend. The only downfall was the shower head was ~2.5 feet from the ground. The shower head was removable but was not the most ideal shower especially when it’s cold and snowing out.

Great snowy stay in the mountains

Overall enjoyable property for our stay. The backyard was great for our pup and the Cool Cabin Staff was very reliable in assisting us acquire some necessary items that weren't at the cabin (soup pot, snow shovel). The description of this property is accurate and the fireplace is still inoperable; however, the furnace kept the place nice and toasty, even during the power outage that occurred during the snow storm. Great location and easy to access.

Good location

Cabin was just like the picture, nice backyard for our poochies to explore. It could use new rugs and carpet. It had a strong unpleasant smell glad I had a candle to help with that. The kitchen was well stocked with all we needed for our stay.

Great cabin with large yard

The Highland Hideaway was great! It is a cozy, studio-style cabin with everything you need for a weekend in Big Bear. Our dog loved playing in the snow in the fenced yard. Big Bear Cool Cabins was very helpful and communicative. They even drove by and plowed the snow in front of our driveway after we got 11 inches of snow!

Me time

I came to the mountains to have some me time after my wife passed away a few months ago! I wanted to see the Forest and the lake and the trees and I needed a place to stay while I have this experience! Cool Cabins catered to my needs! I will definitely use them again! Management company is a joke

The management company that runs this listing is a joke! Had us waiting to get in our cabin for over 45 minutes and then said you have to come pick up the key from our office? Then we were doubled charged and then blamed our bank. Management is a joke with zero help and terrible attitudes I would rather slip in the snow then do business with Big Bear Cool Cabins

Need update

The place is some what out dated, it needs better locks on doors and windows ( didn't feel very safe) . Also the information books are needed to be updated ( they are from 2020) We did have a great stay otherwise. I did not understand the charges, and why was I charged for propane when we did not use it? They told me that is an automatic charge. Why? The barbeque is old and ready to fall apart. The back door is not safe at all, and unfinished . The couch is old and uncomfortable and smells. The place needs a facelift.

Needs some upgrades.

Cool Cabins did a fantastic job of communicating, getting us checked in, and offering to remedy our concern. The back yard is very big and great for dogs. Be aware that during spring the yard will be muddy, so bring towels to wipe off the dog paws. The Hideaway is small, as described in the listing. The kitchen is sufficient to cook easy meals but more than one person in the kitchen isn't possible. The living room area is nice with comfortable chairs and couch. The dining table can seat 4, but it would be close quarters for dining. The cabin is definitely made for two people, as listed. The bathroom is small, but there is a nice shelving unit next to the sink to put your essentials. As another reviewer noted, the tub/shower has a very low ceiling. I'm 5'9" and could not shower standing up, so you'll need to get creative in "seated showering." The two things that dropped my rating are the bed itself and the fireplace. The mattress desperately needs to be replaced. You can tell just by looking at the end of the bed that it has sunk in quite a bit in the center. It felt like we were both sleeping on a hill side. When I contacted Cool Cabins, they were eager to help by providing a brand new pillow top mattress pad, but that would not have remedied the sunken middle of the bed. They then informed us that replacing the mattress is an owner's responsibility and out of their control, which I understand. The fireplace is not advertised in the listing because it is out of order. However, in looking at previous reviews, it has been out of order for 3 years. When heading to the mountains, a fireplace is the ambiance that guests are hoping to find. The fact that it hasn't been replaced and that the mattress also needs replacing, gives the feel that the owners of the cabin no longer provide funds for upkeep and Cool Cabins is doing the best they can with managing the property. I would definitely call Cool Cabins and ask if the mattress and fireplace have been upgraded before booking.
