Great Spot on Torch Lake
Cabin is as advertised and perfect for a getaway on torch lake. It was very well stocked with all the essentials you'd need. Boating can be challenging as its located on the eastern shore and gets lots of wind and is long ride to other lakes and sand bar but still great time

Great Place, great location!!
Perfect place for a family of four - simple house on the lake. We loved eating in the sunroom, the dock was wonderful, and the view outstanding. Quiet place on the lake - just what we wanted. Kids enjoyed it too!

Breathtaking Views and Outstanding Hospitality!
Our stay at this property was truly unforgettable! The view was absolutely breathtaking, and the cleanliness was impeccable. It was refreshing to find that the place was well-stocked with all the necessities, making our stay very comfortable. Lisa was an excellent communicator from the moment I booked. She stayed in touch, offering helpful advice on local dining and where to rent a pontoon. We had a minor mishap when we accidentally locked ourselves out, but even while traveling, Lisa and Kim were quick to respond to my text and were incredibly helpful in getting us back inside. This was by far the best VRBO experience I’ve had yet. Thank you so much, Lisa and Kim, for your exceptional hospitality!

Beautiful views and cozy cottage
Great location on Torch Lake. Only a short ride to Alden or Bellaire. The cottage was cozy with a large living room and plenty of outdoor space. The dock was a great place to hang out and watch the sunset. We loved it!

Beautiful location right on Torch Lake
Our second stay at Grandma’s Cottage was wonderful! While the weather wasn’t super cooperative we still enjoyed the accommodations and especially the views of the lake. The outdoor setting is perfect for relaxing by the fire, playing catch, looking for Petoskey stones, bird watching and swimming. The sunsets are amazing as well! Outdoor shower was perfect for warming up and washing off after taking a dip. The cabin itself is a bit dated in terms of furnishings and decor but it is cozy at the same time. After all you’re there for the outdoors! Kitchen is well equipped with all the supplies you’d need. Location is close to downtown Bellaire, Alden, and central spot to take other day trips to Charlevoix, Boyne or Traverse City.

Nice week on Torch.
Very cute cottage with a great location. Didn't want for anything. very clean. Two small towns closeby with some fun things to do including a supermarket in Bellaire. Scored an almost perfect week of weather which helped. If you are coming without a boat you will find it pricey and hard to find anything other than pontoon boats. A boat is not necessary but adds much to the enjoyment. Only complaint: mattress in MBR needs replacing. I think the listing said it had been replaced recently but I must have read it wrong. My 120 lb wife wound up in the middle and me on the sofa several nights. All in all nice stay.

Nice but misrepresented
The cottage was nice and a GREAT location on the lake, however one of the deciding factors for my Torch cabin pick was having air conditioning. My family was staying the week of fourth of July and my mom doesn't do well with the heat. I wanted my mom to be comfortable while our whole family was able to get together for this vacation. Grandma's Cottage's profile clearly states air conditioning as the second amenity. I was very disappointed to find there is in fact no a.c. but 3 floor fans for the entire place. We had 90 degree weather, and while the lake was great for us youngsters to cool off, I felt bad for my mom the entire time, though she's a saint and won't complain. The profile also listed a complimentary bottle of wine upon arrival and also states this in their welcome email you receive right before the trip. After traveling from out of state and taking a cab from the airport, my boyfriend and I were excited to enjoy this wine prior to having our groceries arrive the next day with my family. There was no bottle of wine :( Lastly, I am unsure if this is normal or not, but it did take 2 weeks for our refundable damage deposit to get returned. I would think that it would be recognized there was no damage and returned prior to the next guests. Just make sure you know what your getting and not getting before booking this one.

The outside property was beautiful.
The outside property was beautiful . . . the dock was lovely and the lawn and fire pit were well maintained. The cottage itself was cluttered but comfortable. My biggest complaint was the lack of space in kitchen cupboards and the clutter in closets. There was no room for us to unpack our food and provisions, and the cupboards themselves were terribly disorganized and cluttered. We rented this cottage for 4 weeks, so we needed room for our own belongings, and unfortunately it was very difficult to find any room in the kitchen. The shower head was very low and uncomfortable to use, and dripped incessantly. There were MANY signs around the cottage and property about what wood to use where, rules about the dock and the fire pit. It felt very "bossy." Having the rules and regulations in the black binder seemed sufficient, no need to have signs all over the place! Like I said, we rented this cottage for 4 weeks, and took very good care of the place! Unfortunately, the owner felt the need to come over to the cottage while we were there, perhaps to check up on us? She did it more than once, and it was an uncomfortable situation. When I rent a place, especially spending a lot of money, I don't need the owner lurking about, it's very inappropriate, and I can honestly say I have never had that happen at any other rental.

Great family getaway
We enjoyed every part of our week here. Cabin was perfect for our family. It is located conveniently close to Belair. Gorgeous sunsets nightly. Communication with owners when needed was great and easy. Would definitely recommend and stay again Only thing to know is no off the dock fishing, but this is characteristic of torch lake, not this cabin

Torch Lake is amazing
Overall the cabin was nice and homey' it has an up north knotty pine feel to the cabin, big big living room. Didn't spend too much time in the living because the front room was so comfy, this is where we spent most of our time. Big yard to hang out, and the fire pit area was set up very nice. Its very quiet with no road noise, this was really nice. Two things to take note of...you have to moor your boat about 75' off the end of the dock, you're not allowed to tie off to the dock. This didn't work for me, I have just entered my retirement years and struggled at times with this. Walking out to your pontoon its about 3-4' deep at the mooring its about 6' deep so with the waves on the lake I needed to wear a life jacket. The other issue was the lane to get to the cabin is really a 1/4 mile long tight driveway with other cabins breaking off to their residence through the woods that you can nearly get your pontoon trailer down, don't even attempt to take your pontoon/boat down this lane, tight corners with `trees and tree limbs will be whacking it. Wish I was aware of these two before renting. There's nothing I can write about Torch Lake that hasn't been written already, but the sandbar is all that!! We hung out there a lot. We don't normally eat out when we're at the lake but the Dockside was so good we ate there twice .

Great Stay!
Our family had a great time staying at Grandma's Cottage property. The amenities and lake was everything we needed for the week up north. We had a snafu with the boat lift but the Hubert's were quick to get it fixed within a day and we were able to use it the rest of the week. Thanks for the great stay!

A wonderful break from reality
This is such an amazing place to stay! We pulled up to a beautiful, secluded property set far from the road. The grounds are great for running around, playing catch, and even a makeshift game of baseball or Quiddich (our boys are 6 and 7.) The home itself is beautiful and totally nostalgic of your grandma (we are 40 and it reminded us of being kids) and the walls and ceiling are all beautiful wood. It was clean and spacious with comfortable beds and lots of light and windows. The kitchen was perfect for making meals and we enjoyed eating on the covered patio. We spent most of our time outside and the dock is excellent for drinking coffee or floating around. We rented a pontoon and moored it at the buoy, which is still in water only about 3.5 feet deep and right in front of the house. We enjoyed the kayak and tennis rackets in the home, and left some pool noodles and squirt guns for future guests. There was also a great fire pit for s’mores and hot dogs and sausages! The towns nearby are adorable and fun, and a grocery store is 12 minutes away. It is so quiet at night and so peaceful, and the Sandbar is only a 30 min boat ride away. We spent many an afternoon there. The large trees break the wind so the backyard is protected and the beach is perfect for little people to search for Petosky stones. If you are a bird enthusiast, this is the place! We saw cardinals, blue jays, ravens, a bald eagle, a loon, hummingbirds, and more that we couldn’t immediately recognize. We also loved the little duck family with 5 ducklings who visiting the yard each morning and evening. Lisa is a very kind host and her house is clean, well stocked (we wanted for nothing) and perfect for a lake getaway. This was our first time in Torch Lake (we live in Cali) but we are already thinking of our next vacation!

Waqaa! (Yupik greeting of Hello)
I have hundreds of childhood memories of being raised at the old Camp Fairwood from camping to sailing. I currently live in Alaska but it has been my dream to own a little piece of Torch and I am now sharing my dream with you. Enjoy walking in the past amongst the old hard woods and crystal clear waters of Torch Lake. The sunsets will let you forget that there is any time but the moment. I am sure it will rejuvenate you as it does the same for me.

Why they chose this property

Grandma's Cottage is a one of kind opportunity to turn back the clock where nothing is more important than enjoying your family and friends in the midst of crystal clear blue water and unbelievable sunsets. This cottage provides a perfect 'Haven' for relaxing, enjoying fun-filled days on the water, and peaceful reflective evenings watching the sunset around a new beautiful flagstone patio/firepit outdoor firepit. You can even grill your entire dinner with a built-in grill at the fire pit. Enjoy the evening by the fireside in the surroundings of a Hard Wood forest and listening to the lapping of the waves snug in the serenity of Grandma's Cottage.

If you do feel the need to venture out, there are so many places to go. Travel by car or boat to Brownwood Acres to enjoy some local traditional fun of flea markets on Sunday and shopping on the weekends. Alden and Bellaire are charming small towns close by with their own entertainment, shopping, and activities. Golfing is available at Shanty with its own 'Legend' designed by Arnold Palmer. The water sports are endless from snorkeling, sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, tubing, wakeboarding, water skiing, and best of all, swimming!

Grab your coffee in the morning and enjoy the beautiful morning hours on the lake. Fill your days with as much activity as you desire. Settle back in the evenings and watch the awesome sunsets that Torch Lake has to offer. When the day is done, enjoy the peace and solitude that Grandma's Cottage has to offer with the natural wood interior, fieldstone fireplace and the comforts of truly being on an unforgettable vacation. The only hard part is leaving this paradise but we do hope you return to build more memories to last a lifetime.

What makes this property unique

Grandma's cottage has beautiful 100' private lake frontage in the surroundings of Cedar and Birch hardwoods. It offers your own 90 ft. dock, boat lift (3500 lbs), beautiful newly built patio and a secure mooring ball. The east side of Torch lends itself to unforgettable sunsets and easy access around the lake. On sunny days, the lake has a wide array of hues of blue that are reminiscent of the Caribbean. Torch Lake is the largest lake in Michigan (18 miles long and 2 miles wide) and is part of a chain of lakes that allows boating from Elk Rapids to Bellaire. You are not far from Dewitt's Marina, Bellaire, Alden, and Brownwood Acres.

Grandma's Cottage is very unique with the knotty pine interior and furnishings. Everything is clean and spotless just as Grandma would have it. It is set up with 2 bedrooms with enough sleeping for 6 people. There is an enclosed outdoor porch that looks out to the lake where you can enjoy breakfast while feasting your eyes on the third Most Beautiful Lake in the World, recognized by National Geographic Magazine. In the summer of 2016, Grandma's Cottage will now offer wireless internet, outdoor deck with patio furniture, newly renovated flagstone patio/fire pit with walkways to cabin and water. Also, additional parking will be available.
