Sweet Hills Farm Guesthouse: A Rural Retreat Minutes from Town
This newly remodeled cabin hosts an open floor plan with huge windows overlooking the pasture, gardens, and pecan grove. A new modern eclectic kitchen with vintage sink and butcher block counters opens to the main living area capable of supporting festive getaways with friends and family. Both bedrooms feature new queen beds with high quality linens for a comfortable rest. Newly remodeled bathroom features a bath/shower combo to accommodate guests needs plus luxurious towels for added comfort. Open loft upstairs off second bedroom allows for extra sleeping arrangements, a place to do yoga, play music or just relax with a book. Outside there is a wrap around deck perfect for grilling, watching the sunrise and stars, wildlife viewing, and all the happenings going on in the gardens. There are hiking trails through the woods, a creek to explore, a fishing pond and during the late winter months maple sugaring adventures to enjoy. We have many projects (and dreams) in the works at Sweet Hills Farm but currently the focus is on an extensive garden project and glade restoration.

Our son is at Mizzou and we followed him back to Columbia after Thanksgiving on Friday and spent two days in this fabulous, quiet, cozy farmhouse, while it snowed. It was just perfect. Wish we had more time! The hosts were communicative and incredibly helpful.
We used the cottage for the weekend to go to the mizzou football game. It is a little bit of a trip in, but was perfect for getting away from the crowd. Plenty of space and the outdoor area was a plus
We had a great time here for the second year in a row for family weekend. It is a little off the beaten path, but close enough to easily get to campus. The host is easy to work with.
The cabin was perfect for a couple of families for family weekend! We wished we had more time to just relax in the lovely space. Would definitely come back!
Great place, loved the the privacy and great place to relax and decompress! If you just need to step away and chill i highly recommend!!!!

Bachelorette Girls Retreat
Had an exceptional stay at the rural retreat! Amy was extremely accommodating with our stay and pleasant to work with.
The home is beautiful and has everything necessary for a weekend retreat; beautiful scenery, relaxing decor, and the absence of many everyday distractions.
I would highly recommend this cabin.
Our family enjoyed the peaceful environment and nature filled scenery during our stay. The property was clean and had everything we needed for the weekend. Thank you for sharing with us!
It was an excellent choice and a great discovery! The hosts were wonderful - very responsive and easy to deal with. The directions were spot on...even with trying to find our way at 230am...lol
The cabin was perfect for the 4 of us and could have easily held more people! It was squeaky clean and the water pressure was amazing!!! (The beds wer comfortable also.)
I would definitely stay again - in fact, its certain since my boys decided on MU!
We had a great time. The house is very relaxing and peaceful. I loved all of the decor. There were trails we could walk on. We really just had a chance to soak up nature. The house was located off the main road it felt like you were a 100 miles from town, but in reality stores were only maybe 10-15 minutes away at the most. It was the perfect place to reconnect with my adult children for a Mother’s Day weekend. The host Amy was very accommodating and very easy to contact if we needed anything. I would for sure rent this property again.
You may only be 10 minutes from the CoMO Mall, but this is backwoods. A covered bridge, a gravel mega hill, slowing down for escaped chickens. It is WONDERFUL!!
House has great heat, a completely workable kitchen and a real bathroom. All kinda surprising for a cabin in the woods.
The property is exactly as listed. It is a refurbished cottage nestled among forested hills and rolling meadow. The hiking trails were rugged enough to be enjoyable, but not too difficult for even a beginner. We went fishing every day in the small pond a short walk from the house, and caught nice sized bluegill and bass.
The owners were easy to get ahold of and help with anything we needed. And the property itself is not far from town.
Things to note:
1)The property is not far from town; however, the roads to the property are winding country roads. Beautiful during the day; and little hairy at night if you’re not familiar with that sort of driving.
2) There is no T.V.. This fact is in the description of the property, I just wanted to remind you. If you need screen time, the wifi is very very fast.
We had a wonderful time relaxing, talking, eating, playing games and doing crafts. It was just as expected. The coffee pot shut off a few times before finishing so we just turned it back on. I may have just done it wrong. The only trouble we had really was with the couch. It was difficult to get up from. We had an elderly one and a heavy lady that really struggled. I didn’t realize we. Resend to bring chairs to sit on the front porch but I should have thought of that. These are things we just dealt with because we had such a good time. I would love to go in the winter when there was snow!
We came for family weekend at Mizzou. This was a great option and we enjoyed getting out of town. The house is very cozy and beds comfortable. Loved the quiet of the location to relax. Easy to get to from town.
Amy and Mike have created a sweet slice of heaven. Our experience at Sweet Hills Farm was filled with ease, attentive communication, and beautiful surroundings. In between family get-togethers and hangouts with old friends, my family and I spent time in the SHF guesthouse making dinners, playing games, exploring the property’s trails, and studying the birds, bugs, and butterflies we encountered. The home was fresh and clean, beautifully decorated, and equipped with all of our basic home comforts. This home is the perfect place to unplug from your usual routines, read a good book, slow down, settle in, and enjoy the view.
If you’re looking for a little getaway (but not too far away!), there’s a darling little cottage right next to a beautiful pecan grove, just 15 minutes north of Columbia. Plenty of hiking, a visit to a great farmer’s market (that furnished our Saturday night dinner), fire pit, Shakespeare’s takeout, Sequence, wine/charcuterie, reading, naps… a nice way to kick off the summer. We will be to back for the changing leaves in the fall!
Amy was very responsive and accommodating, the house was well-appointed and clean- it was exactly what we were looking for!
One quick, insignificant note- the house description noted that a French press was available, but it’s no longer in the house. We brewed coffee and were just fine; just wanted anybody who might be French press coffee drinkers like us to know to bring your own press!
This cabin was the cutest little place for our family to stay! It was tucked back in the woods, it was so quiet and perfectly decorated. I would highly recommend staying here if you love the outdoors and the peace and quiet!
Beautiful country setting. Six family members stayed there. It would be a wonderful setting for a personal retreat. Quite remote. Driveway is very long. Interesting well tended property with chickens, sugar barn(for making maple syrup) and gardens. Was the perfect place for my family, including my parents who are in their 90's.
Love this place for the quiet and peace. And it’s so close to town! We will be back.

We are both native Missourians and have called Columbia our home for over 15 years. We recently moved to the 'country' in 2011 to turn our dream of living on land into a reality. This piece of property has proven to be a bounty of surprises and beauty to behold.
