About this property

Unforgettable Beach Cliff Home With Panoramic Ocean Views

“Casa Los Riscos” is a home retreat located in an amazing and unforgettable setting, in the middle of El Salvador’s West Coast--the country’s most popular tourist destination. Nestled inside the secure, gated community of “Xanadu”, “Casa Los Riscos” is perched high atop a cliff with breathtaking views! Here the ocean and sky become one spectacular panorama with birds playfully soaring at eye level. Against this dramatic backdrop, a stunning Polynesian-styled wood deck reaches out to the sky. Beside this deck, a pool, jacuzzi, hammocks and lounge chairs all await your pleasure. Complementing this lovely setting is a lush terraced garden and a greenbelt of mature native trees. Imagine yourself sitting on this beautiful deck enjoying an 'Al Fresco' meal of freshly caught seafood…...a refreshing breeze blows in as the sights and sounds of the Pacific Ocean serenade all your senses! No wonder the Mayans called this part of El Salvador “Cuscatlan”, “The Land of Precious Things”.

Our home has been renovated to provide guests a spacious, gracious retreat. The colorful, sophisticated décor blends architectural design with elements of El Salvador’s Mayan culture. The main house features a large master bedroom with a private bathroom, plus two other bedrooms and a second bathroom. There is a well-appointed indoor living & dining room space, a fully equipped kitchen, laundry / maid quarters, and an outdoor covered porch overlooking the pool and gardens. A detached ocean-view bedroom with two bunk beds and a private bathroom is located below the pool deck. To top it off, this private community offers members and guests a secluded pearl-sand swimming beach, a large swimming pool and an adjacent community picnic area, all within a 5-minute walk or 2-minute drive.

“Casa Los Riscos” is centrally located and we encourage our guests to venture out to explore the many points of interest nearby, some just minutes from the property, none more than a few hours away. Several dining options are just outside the community. Enjoy taking a variety of day trips: to the mountain coffee towns of Apaneca, Ataco & Juayua (Ruta de las Flores); to the modern city of San Salvador (about one hour away) for shopping and entertainment; or to the local fisherman’s wharf in the port of La Libertad. Additional adventures include a national parks system with majestic volcanoes and forests to tour, as well as many other scenic sights and cultural events. Finally, let's not forget the surfing El Salvador is known for! “Casa Los Riscos” is next door to some of the best Surf Central America has to offer. In places like El Tunco, El Sunzal, Punta Roca and El Zonte, the epic surf waves at any of these popular locations will make for some awesome entertainment. So, whether you are a surfer looking for action, a family looking for a magical cultural experience or just wanting to get a away and relax in the sun and ocean, this retreat can offer you a vacation filled with memories that will last a life time!!!

Pictures do not reflect the condition of the property

Unfortunately this was our worst experience with a Vrbo rental. The pictures do not match the condition of the property. It says it was recently renovated, but that is completely false. The condition of the property is very run down. Visible Cracks in many of the walls. The paint and walls are filthy. The front entrance is run down, the fence is broken and looks dilapidated, there was trash (old ac unit, metal garbage) in the back yard. The deck overlooking the ocean didn’t have furniture on it; the place felt musty and dirty. The pool looked cloudy and was missing tiles in many spots. We didn’t stay an hour. We weren’t going to spend a family vacation in the house. We immediately notified the owner that we left. He tried to blame us for not giving him a chance to fix things. But it would take a renovation of many days or weeks to get the property in the condition it was described as. Nothing could’ve been done while we were there on vacation. This property is in need of a proper upgrade. The description and pictures are not accurate

Not What We Expected

The online photos advertising this property are old. It paints a much prettier picture than what we experienced. This property has a lot of potential but needs a lot of work including a full tent fumigation and probably a new roof. If you book this property, plan for a campout in the jungle -- not a resort-like experience in paradise.

Amazing views and safe location

I booked this property mainly for the location and because is in a gated community with guards. This home has amazing views of the ocean but you are not able to see the sunrise or the sunset due to the location is facing, nonetheless the views of the ocean and the area is very beautiful, even at night you can see the sky so full of stars and the sound of the waves is very soothing. The outdoor pool and deck with hammocks is definitely the focal point of the house, we spend so many hours enjoying the pool and the views. Also has access to a private beach, where you can even do a bonfire. Another thing I want to note is the owner was very accommodating with us by letting us checking early, we arrive on a red eye flight and they allowed us to check very early. However the house is in need of some TLC and deep cleaning. paint is chipping of the walls in the bathrooms and rooms, which was a concern to me due to led and asbestos exposure. the shower head in the master bathroom is rusted completely, I would recommend replaced the shower head.s. The AC unit in one of the rooms leaks from condensation causing the wall to bubble, the bed in the master room had a broken leg and the refrigerator door was not closing properly, we contacted Guayo the care taker and the bed was fix and he kind of managed for the refrigerator door to close. We didn’t put items on the door so that stayed close, the fans are wobbly and there was lots of ants in the kitchen making difficult for cooking. I had also rented one of the quarters for my brother and his family to stayed over the weekend with us, but it had a sewer smell so intolerable that they couldn’t sleep there, they slept in hammocks and the couches, the owner volunteered to reimburse 3 nights due to the smell. One night was not reimbursed because they slept there. Which I was ok with. I like some of the decorations but the furniture is also in need of some upgrading, the dinning chairs are very comfortable to sit, actually the deck dinner was more comfortable than the one inside the house. The master room if you roll the blinds has a nice view of the ocean but the windows are so dirty that you can’t see it clearly. Overall the house has a welcoming home feel to it, is a beautiful house with great potential. For Location I would give the house a 5, Safety 5, cleanliness 2, condition 2, furniture 2., staff 2 ( Guayo and cleaning lady) owner a 5, he always responded in a timely manner.

It’s all about the views

I’ll start with the positives: Nice, quiet, safe location. This neighborhood (Xanadu) is a true, inconspicuous gated community, with beautiful homes in a perfect nestled-between-the-cliff location. It has its own private beach, and a real zen-feel. You’re central to the best beach towns, El Tunco and El Zonte with the best food and shopping options. The guards keep the gate well protected and always had two on staff (I believe day and night). For the house, the beautiful outdoor patio area is terraced with truly breathtaking ocean views. You are literally on the cliff, looking down a 100 foot gully to the ocean. Outdoor living is the point of this house, which is why I booked it to begin with. You could stay here all day and just breathe the gentle ocean breeze, while swinging in a hammock under the lanai. Or, cool off in the pool, and lay under the hot El Salvadoran sun. It’s all good, made better with a well-designed landscape of bougainvillea, mature trees, and coastal plants. The internet is fast, BTW. Our contact, Reynaldo, is not local but had great communication. He was both responsive and helpful. He reached out prior to the trip to ensure we were set to arrive and provide details. He definitely took care of us. For the negatives: The house is in need of updating. Even some fresh paint would help here. But that’s not really the issue. Although it’s quaint, and really does have a feel of a lived-in home, and to some degree it’s cozy warm and inviting, it’s kind of falling apart. The beds and bedding and minimal, and beyond the master bed, the beds are super uncomfortable. We had quite the ant problem (but used to that). Overall, I would say that you’re paying for the location and views, not the house. I feel that it’s maybe $50-$70 per night overvalue. But, If you’re looking for an amazing, safe location and if you have a party of 5 or more, this is the perfect spot.

Peaceful.

My family loved this place. We have the most memorable time, specially by the big outdoor dining Table. Honestly, one of the best, if not THE best places we have ever stayed. Relaxing, great views, and great design. We felt like royalty. Many memories were made. We hope to get back soon!

A few upgrades but a great place!

The view are amazing!! A few things to point out. Door nob needs to be fixed, no iron/iron board, family if three raccoons are leaving in the roof…fix it or they will damage the house. We did mentioned to Guayo. Overall… loved the place!!❤️

Fantastic and safe :)

This is a gorgeous property in a very safe gated neighborhood with private beach. I was looking for a safe place to spend time with my family and boyfriend who has never been to El Salvador. We loved the beautiful pool and our favorite spot to hang out was the awesome deck overlooking the ocean. The decorations in this home are so cozy and colorful in every room. The location is also great. It’s nearby the famous surf spot el tunco. We are not surfers but we enjoyed walking around the town, shopping and having some drinks at the bars. There’s also breweries and nice restaurants nearby. The only one thing I wished was different is that the beach didn’t have so many rocks. Locals were saying that it all depends on the time of the year you go. Overall we loved this beach house and highly recommend it.

Exotic and breathtaking views beach villa

Since I contacted the owner i experienced a fantastic costumer service. We arrive to the house and meet Blanquita and Lupita the two persons in charge of cleaning the house and prepare the brakefast, very nice ladies. We found the house exotic, the forniture and all the decoration is with mayan textiles and you can find a lot of local details. Full kitchen and they provide drinking water and all you need for cook. You can find a small refrigerator and stove for your convinience. The pool is fantastic, the jacuzzi also and we got in love with the Deck, exotic decoration and the breeze was just perfect accompanied by the view. You can rest, chat, sleep, play your favorite music or just relax in one of the several "hamacas" or living rooms. If you want to go to the beach you can go by car or by foot it is not far away. Close to the house there are several restaurantes with delicious and local food and a "pupuseria" close to the bridge in Sunzal Beach. I would like to come back in a near future, salvadorans are the best and most kind persons ever. And a very important detail, the house is very secure, During our stay we stayed with open doors, there are security guards in all the property, this is priceless.

You need to be aware of somethings

The house itself we would describe as average. The property however was beautiful. I think it is important you know the following about the home: (1) The house itself is not 3000 sq feet like the listing states. This estimate includes the outdoor living space. (2) There is no hot water in the house and we were not informed of this in advance. As we walked around the community we noticed black storage tanks for hot water at other homes so it is available at other properties. (3) The bbq grill was rusted to the point the bottom fell out when we moved it to try and use it. (4) We woke up our very first morning to a woman standing in the kitchen. It was extremely unnerving and because we spoke very little Spanish and she spoke no English, it made it difficult to try and determine why she was there. We found out she was the housekeeper and that she could cook for us as well for an additional cost. (5) The outdoor living quarters smelled of sewer/sulfur. The homeowner was advised of this after we left. (6) The air conditioning did not work in one of the rooms. We told the housekeeper who we believed communicated this to the homeowner. When we followed up a few days later, he was unaware. As a result, it did not give fixed while we were there. There was no other bed to sleep in as the outdoor living quarters were unusable. (7) The internet was very inconsistent and did not always work. Although the homeowner would not necessarily have control over this, it is something you should be aware of if you require internet access. (8) We were informed that there was no rental agreement to sign but rather we were to just follow the ‘house rules’ located at the property. The homeowner insisted they were in English and Spanish but there were no English rules listed (this was after we got in trouble for leaving the pool pump on). (9) When it came time to return our damage deposit, he short changed us because he said he had to pay a processing feel to Paypal. This is completely against Paypal’s user agreement as it explicitly states “you agree that you will not impose a surcharge or any other fee for accepting PayPal as a payment method." I reminded the homeowner of this and threatened to file a complaint with both Paypal and VRBO if we didn’t receive the entire amount back. He complied. (10) Responses from the homeowner sometimes would take over a week. Overall, our group would not recommend this property for the price we paid.

Casa Los Riscos was the perfect place to introduce my in laws to El Salvador , we had such a great time that 3 days was not enough , everything was just as described on the website and more! As we where having breakfast some amazing birds were just outside the beautiful Polynesian Deck . The main house it's beautifully decorated, the green areas, the pool everything was just perfect! My sister loves to entertain in the kitchen and commented that everything you need, you will find it there!! I can not forget Maritza!! and the service she provided. Absolutely Stunning In Every Way!

Myself and a few of my long time friends recently took a trip to El Salvador. We contemplated staying at a resort or choosing a luxury home for our vacation week. Once we found this amazing home online we knew that his was the house we wanted to rent. Our only hope was if it could live up to the pictures on the listing. Boy did it ever! The house provided the perfect accommodations for 4 adults but definitely has the capacity to service larger groups with ease. Once we stepped out of the house an into the lush and private backyard we were blown away. The pictures had not let us down. It was even more breathtaking in person. Perfect place to relax in the pool and jacuzzi; which we did many days and nights, and the huge covered deck overlooking the pacific was something straight out of a movie. At the end of a short walk down the winding concrete path you will find an unbelievable salt water pool that you can relax in and listen to the waves crash on the rocks while enjoying a cocktail. You must experience this if you rent this home! The location couldn't be any better. The gated community is only a short 4 minute drive to the town of El Tunco and many great shops and restaurants. We are surfers and were able to access all the world class surf breaks in 10 minutes or less and then retreat to our own paradise for relaxation without being directly in the mix of things. I would strongly recommend that anyone thinking of vacationing to this area consider this one of your top choices to stay!

Perfect Palce!!!

The house was amazing! While we spent most of our time outside the house itself, the accommodations and the furnishings were excellent and all we could want for. However the outside exceeded our expectations. The outdoor amenities and views are astonishing – I can’t even quantify the value of the views (multi million dollar views). The afternoon breezes will amaze. It is worth the trip. The housekeep and care takers were great and helpful, especially if you can speak Spanish. We would highly recommend this property. Justin Lee

Xanadu Paradise

What an amazing property and wonderful country. We were visiting for a friends wedding and we decided to rent a home instead of staying at a resort in San Salvidor, and I'm extremely happy we did so. First of all, anything you want to do can be arranged even if the normal pickup arrangement is out of San Salvidor. Excursions/activities are all very accessible from the property. The house manager and her husband were extremely cordial and accomodative. I do suggest you brush up on your spanish before traveling to El Sal. The house was very thoughtfully constructed to encourage spending as much time as possible outside. While the house itself is very comfortable on the inside, the outside has spectacular views of the pacific ocean and the cliff side is extremely dramatic and gorgeous. Overall we had a great experience and dealing with the family owners was very easy and comfortable.

beautiful location

we just spent 3 days at this beach house and it was all of what we expected it to be. the house is very comfortable for a big group with all its bedrooms and beds, and great outdoor entertaining spaces. it is in a private gated community close enough to the town of La Libertad and several very good restaurants (check out BETOS) and to the capital, San Salvador for day trips there, as well as to other beaches and even towns in the mountains, but you do need a vehicle (if you need a recommendation on a driver, let us know) the bedrooms all have A/C and fans, and the kitchen has all the equipment necessary. the caretakers are awesome. there is a private beach, which can be reached by a steep trail or by car on the private road, but the beach can only be used for swimming during low tide, so you have to coordinate with that if you want to go swimming in the ocean. if you need beach towels, you need to coordinate that with the owner. the property is as beautiful as the pictures indicate. so if you want to be at the beach...in privacy..safety...in a beautiful location..but with quick access to San Salvador, this is the place to be at

Better Than I Could Imagine!

The first morning that I woke up at Xanadu I stumbled down the hall looking for any of the other ten people I shared the house with. (That’s one awesome thing right there - eleven people, ten days, lots of decks, shared spaces and private places - you really don’t need to leave the house to have a moment alone or a place to gather.) I gazed out at the pool and was stunned. The image I saw was exactly like the photographed image on the web page. The colors really are that sharp and bright. The covered dining area is for more than eating. At any given time one or eleven of us would be lounging in the hammocks, chatting with coffee or a glass of wine in the seating area adjacent the huge dining table, or just taking a quiet moment to gaze at the pelicans that flew right by at eye level. We barbequed here, entertained guests, read, grooved on music (great sound system throughout, Wi-Fi internet, Direct TV and Netflix, too). The pool provided endless hours of fun and relaxation for everyone. While the kids spent countless hours popping in and out of the pool. My husband slipped out of bed a few nights for a midnight float, undisturbed, under the stars. The house itself is furnished so beautifully. The owner obviously has a gift for design. There’s many native pieces carved for function or artwork (the headboard in my room was amazing!) and the colors are cheerful and bright without being too much. I saw many photos of local faces which are blended in to look like artful scenery. Also, the owner has taken local materials and turned them into functioning pieces of art - the chandelier over the dining room table is made of shells. Imagine sitting with a cool night breeze, the ocean tumbling at your feet, and red conches glowing like fire. It’s magical! All of our needs were met. The kitchen works well (especially with Maritza helping out!). Of course, we came prepared to connect with local customs and habits so it didn’t bother us to drink only bottled water (drink lots!). We felt completely safe being in the gated community. The private beach is unreachable by outsiders so it really is private. There’s a HUGE warm watered pool next to the beach that I was really fond of. There’s plenty of hilly roads to take a walk on, so you aren’t sequestered to just the house. Our family will definitely go back. I can see our kids getting used to El Salvador.

Great house - Great stay

We were a group of 10 people staying in the house. The vacation was lovely from beginning to end. The house is amazing and the view from the Bali deck towards the ocean is breathtaking. To make the stay perfect, the caretakers were the optimal support to make our time as relaxing as possible. Be it cooking or arranging transportation, it was great to have a local point of contact that could take care of it. I would highly recommend this place and we definitely consider going there again.

The beautiful cliff house on Xanadu beach was the perfect spot for our vacation. You really didn't have to leave the house as it had multiple spots to chill out and absorb the sunshine. Our group of 10 spent many hours on the deck relaxing in the hammocks overlooking the water. I would suggest renting a car if you want to explore the local beaches and towns as there are no stores or restaurants within walking distance. However, the beach at Xanadu was amazing and very private and only a 10min walk down the hill from the house. Edwin the caretaker and his wife were very lovely and helpful. We arranged for them to cook some of our meals. Edwin is very resourceful, he arranged delivery of papusas for one of our meals and organized for a few of us to go lobster and oyster "hunting". The house is very close to El Tunco/Sunzal and Playa Palmercito, two good surfing spots. I would highly recommend this beautiful house as it is in a fantastic location and a great value.

Absolutely Amazing!

I just spent a week at this house and I could not be more impressed with both the accommodations and location. The house is in excellent condition and the caretakers are incredibly helpful. The house is also located right next to a picturesque private beach on one side and private natural baths on the other. This place in the USA would be worth millions!!
