About this property

New Log Home with Gorgeous Ocean View in Historic Acadian Village

L'Ardoise and surrounding villages have wild berries for the enthusiastic picker - strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, dewberries - even cranberries and foxberries. Free clam digging is available within fourteen miles, and copious oysters on a tide beach within five miles. Concerts and Ceilidhs are available in many locations throughout Cape Breton, some featuring the unique brand of Cape Breton fiddle music. Fortress Louisbourg is a world class historic re-enactment of a French Acadian fortress town. The beach in L'Ardoise, in the hamlet of Point Michaud, six miles from us, is 1.5 miles long, advertised as world class in quality. Fishing from shore for mackerel is available in the 300 meter canal connecting the Atlantic with the Bras d'Or Lakes, about 7 miles from our house. wild speckled (brook) trout live in every stream and pond. We have a 120 degree view of the Atlantic and the harbour.

In the front yard there is a badminton net, quite likely on the ground. Stakes are available with the net, if it needs to be erected, and equipment is in the ping pong room.

Return stay

L'Ardoise is a beautiful seaside community. We stayed in this house 5 years ago and enjoyed it very much. Last month we returned for a second time to enjoy the privacy, quiet and the amazing views from the deck and the upstairs windows. The house is spacious, well equipped and very easy to find. The property manager is friendly, nearby and easy to reach. We enjoyed our return stay.

A slice of Acadia!

This home is more of a pan-abode style house than a log house and very rustic inside. The rooms are large and perfect for an active family. The location is a little distant from the usual attractions of Cape Breton Island. It's a good idea to ask to have the house aired for 2 days before you arrive.

Worst place !

We arrived an hour early and and we had asked the owner could we get in early and he said prob not due to him and family staying there and the time it takes to clean but he told me he would leave door open and key on table ..didnt happen i had to track down the cleaning lady to get key ...he told me the lawn was mowed (we stayed there 2 years ago and the grass wasnt mowed )so he lied to me it was not mowed we brought outdoor games couldnt play them ! So ya we stayed there 2 years ago had no issues although house wasnt the cleanest but i didnt say anything. ...so since two years it went down hill the place smelled really bad like especially downstairs smelled "musty" you could see water stains all throughout the house, mold has to be growing there .the house was not cleaned ! We went out and bought bleach tonclean the bathroom it was disgusting! We had to take the first hour to clean the whole house ! everything felt damp!! The bed clothes were damp too and the beds we are pretty sure not changed good thing i brought my own pillow and blanket ! A piece of jewelry was found in a bed there was these weird water bugs throughout the house if u dropped a towel the bugs would be there wen ya picked up mouse poop in the bathroom down stairs and in a bedroom by the dresser .. when we first walked in the coffee table had something sticky all over it the kitchen chairs were all stained ! ...on the 3rd day the cleaning lady came to see if everything was ok she complained abo

Log Home

We were very disappointed with our stay here, the house was very dirty and I had to clean the fridge which was disgusting,I vacuumed everywhere since the people that had it before us had a dog. We had to buy bedding because the bed was full of dog hair and the pillow cases were stained. The bathroom had a soap dish and that had several layers of used soap in it. We have been in touch with the owner and sent pictures for proof of what we were faced with. After waiting weeks for him to resolve the situation we got a sorry. We would not stay here again. We were very disappointed for the money we spent on this house.

Amazing ocean view

We stayed over the Christmas holidays. The house is great with lots of beds for a group. The view of the ocean from the upper floor is amazing! Obviously it was winter when we were there so all we could do was look at the ocean. I’d love to stay here again in the summer and take advantage of the beach and ocean.

Stunning & relaxing view

Specious home, stunning view, the description of the beach was not accurate. Expected to overlook the ocean, that was there but far away Need to change the photograph that shows sandy beach from the kitchen window. That’s misleading us to believe that the cottage is right on the water.

Cabot Trail Visit

Overall, this cottage served us well. Amazing view of the ocean and very quiet. Tons of space and well equipped. Young and old will love the new -looking ping pong table. For those with mobility issues (not currently an issue for us thankfully !), to get to the main living area and large master bedroom, there are a number of steps to go up. If in the area again, I’d definitely stay at this cottage again.

Total R&R

Jonathan was absolutely amazing at communicating with us and Sara was incredible too. The cabin and its location exceeded our expectations. It was peaceful, the view was out of this world, and the entire experience met all our creature comforts. It’s likely we will book again!

La maison est située dans un endroit tranquille et paisible. La vue sur la baie fut très appréciée. Les jeux et la table de ping-pong furent très apprécié pour la seule journée de pluie que nous avons connue.

Nice cottage

The place is very quiet and refreshing. The only trouble we had was the speed of the internet. In case you ae planning to work remotely and you need just to send few emails is ok but nothing else. The cottage is cozy and has pretty well stocked kitchen. With an awesome view to the ocean. Definitely a place i would return to.

Inviting Seaside Stay

The front windows of this property provide magnificent coastal vistas! The living room has two new comfortable couches for family gatherings. Guests working remotely will find ample space and a robust WiFi. The property has plenty of tables for dining, entertainment, and remote working. The location is very quiet with only seagulls breaking the silence. We appreciate the dog friendly house and reasonable price. Local sightseeing highlights include L’Ardoise Wharf, must see Michaud Beach, and St. Peter’s Canal. Local food favorites include Lobsters R Us in Lower L’Ardoise, Jiggs Takeout and Chubby’s Takeout in St. Peter’s, and Foodland in St. Peter’s (has 5 gallon water bottles for water dispenser).

About the host

Hosted by Jonathan Tetherly

Host profile image
I am a widower living in Chicopee, Massachusetts, a retired jail chaplain, retired track and field official, a backyard maple syrup producer, and farmers market vendor. I have academic degrees from the University of New Hampshire, the University of Minnesota, and Andover Newton Theological School in Newton, Massachusetts. I am an ordained minister of the United Church of Christ.

Why they chose this property

In 1980, when my wife and I wanted a vacation house, L'Ardoise was affordable. We bought a very small house. in 2005, when we had more resources, we took it down and built the roomy house advertised in this website.

What makes this property unique

Spectacular ocean view, interior pine paneling, friendly neighbours, variety of experiences with nature, your choice of many Cape Breton tourist activities or quiet relaxation.
