About this property

Authentic, Rustic, Historic Log Cabin

Sparkling clean and sanitized. Large restored log home located just south of Lexington in historic Richmond, KY. Beautiful private property including picturesque ponds with docks and paddle boats where guest can fish, swim or float. There are horses, opens fields, wooded areas, abundant wildlife, picnic tables, fire pit, fishing ponds and out door grill. The 4200 sq ft home is furnished with treasures from around the world, art, pottery, crystal and some primitive antiques. A rustic style parlor offers a large stone fireplace and a perfectly restored and playable pump organ from the 1800s. The welcoming wrap-around porch was featured in the book Perfect Porches and features porch swings and big hammocks.

You’ll have your own two acres, but still have the convenience of level paved roads in a quiet neighborhood just two miles from the nearest gas and groceries.

The fabulous Red River Gorge is 45 minutes east into the rugged mountains of Kentucky. And 45 minutes North is Keenland, The Horse Park, Lexington and the Blue Grass airport. And The Ark Encounter and Creation Museum is less than 2 hr away in Northern KY.

This rambling handcrafted work of art invites visitors to recall days past when time spent on a porch swing was enlightening, and a stroll around a pond is healing. There’s an enclosed hot tub off the upstairs bedroom that extends into pine trees with an outside entrance onto the back deck. It overlooks the pond and is totally private. The big windows provide beautiful views year-round, perfect sunsets and stars twinkling through the pine boughs at night.

A king sized bed and private bath are on the first level in a very large master bedroom. Off the master bedroom is a separate bedroom with a standard and two twin beds. Up the stairs from there is a queen bed in a room that opens into the hot tub room, a large bathroom with garden tub and washer and dryer. This area also has a stone fireplace with gas logs. Down the hall on the second floor are two more bedrooms. One is large with a queen size bed and record played. The fifth bedroom has a queen size bed with a full view of the pond and private entrance onto the upper deck. There is a bathroom in this area, too.

Also, on this second floor is a balcony room that overlooks the large floor-to-ceiling hand laid stone fireplace. This area has a large comfortable couch and is the perfect spot to escape to read a book.

A unique spiraling staircase leads to the open kitchen on the first floor. The dining room off the kitchen is a one room log cabin with a handmade oak table and woven hickory bottom chairs that seat 12 comfortably.

Simply beautiful!

Martin Manor's description didn't do it justice. We six were overwhelmed with the character, peacefulness, and warmth of the home. Weather did not permit enjoying the paddle boats or pond, but we loved the grounds and found the house to more than meet our needs for a fellowship gathering of friends from five states. We enjoyed visiting with another friend in nearby Versailles, a bourbon tasting, and two wineries during our stay. We would definitely recommend a stay at the Martin Manor.

Birthday getaway

Overall, the property is wonderful and we had a great two days celebrating our dad’s birthday! 11 adults were there in total. I was satisfied and would stay again— just posting here for others who may be considering and would like details. Of course it was January when we stayed— so summer may make a diff but the temperature was inconsistent in different rooms— particularly the room off the downstairs master. There are only 2 tvs— one in the fireplace room downstairs (which we never found the Apple Remote for in order to use) and the other, in the downstairs master. (Again, didn’t matter to us, but it may to others)The downstairs 3rd “bedroom” is actually a second living room and has. O door or bed— it’s a blow up mattress. (We didn’t need this room as a bedroom— but if your looking for 6 actual bedrooms— this may not work for you)Also— the second bedroom off the master downstairs (the one pictured with three beds) , is just off the main bedroom downstairs and you have to walk through the master to get in and out of this room. Also— you can hear everything from these rooms in the upstairs game/bedroom(as there is a second set of stairs in the master bedroom that go upstairs to this room— even though there is a door that closes it off)——-AGAIN— we were there to enjoy outlet dad— so not an issue for us— but it may be for you. We couldn’t get the upstairs fireplace to light— even with the instructions— though the downstairs one worked just fine.

Golf trip

We had a great time. The location was perfect for our men's golf trip. All of us enjoyed the grounds, especially the fishing. The sleeping arrangements worked out very well compared to a lot of places we have rented. Check in was easy and the owner was friendly and helpful throughout the whole process. Definitely would stay again!

Family Vacation

We thoroughly enjoyed all the amenities of this site. It was well appointed and provided a very comfortable retreat. The history of the building and creativity in incorporating three original log cabins into the design was intriguing and lent a sense of charm and tranquility that was truly unique.

A Wonderful Place to Rest

Extended family annual vacation. The bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable and clean. The common rooms were big enough for family dinners and nightly games. Location was great for quick trips to grocery store or shopping mall. The ponds were well stocked too. We truly enjoyed our trip.

Great place for a group to stsy

Martin Manor was a great place for our group of 5 couples and 1 single to stay for our 50th college reunion. There was space galore and a beautiful view of the lake/pond. Even though there was a hot tub and also activities at the lake, we really did not have time to use them. My husband and I did enjoy the paddle boats on the last day. There are two sets of stairs leading upstairs which really helped with our group. The kitchen was well stocked with pans, plates and dinnerware, although I forgot to look in the island storage the first day! The dining room table could accommodate 8-12 people. The king suite on the first floor was very roomy. A smaller bedroom with a double and 2 twins opened into that room. There were three bedrooms with queens upstairs. The 6th bedroom was actually a living room but could become a bedroom with the use of an air mattress or fold out couch. It was a beautiful place for our reunion. The owner was next door and very helpful when we had questions.

Visiting Oma

We had a wonderful time. The house and grounds were beautiful and great for the family outing. The pond, fire pit, home game room, two dachshunds and the horses were great, while I did not catch the bass 😀 my son in law and grandson did 😀. I will catch him next time. It was a great multigenerational home. The host family was very attentive and helpful and friendly. I’d recommend this home to anyone seeking a nice country experience.

Amazing Property for a family gathering

We stayed for 4 nights and really enjoyed what the place offered. It was in the 90s each day, but the wrap around porch offered quality shade no matter the time of day. The house had everything we needed. Despite the area offering so many things, we just stayed on site and had a blast catching up and playing games. The pond produced several nice sized bass. We'll be back!

Excellent stay for a weekend wedding

We had 10 of us that stayed here in the cabin for my son's wedding in richmond. What an awesome and beautiful place!! John and Jennifer were extremely responsive to any of our questions and quick to get back with us. They stopped by to see us while we were there and they were so kind. The place was extremely clean and well taken care of. So many awesome amenities. We will absolutely come back to this cabin if we are ever in the area again. Absolutely loved the swings and wrap around porch and the beautiful view of the lake. Very calming during hectic preparations for a wedding. Highly recommend!

Kentucky Vacation

This was a great place to stay with the family. We needed a large home to stay in because we live in different states and wanted to vacation together in a peaceful atmosphere. Enjoyed the wrap around porches and swings. The fire pit area and BBQ pit was good for us because we like to cook outdoors and roast marshmallows. Paddle boats and fishing in the pond was fun. Wish the pond didn’t have to be treated. Although the children probably wouldn’t swim in it anyway. We try to leave places in better shape than when we came. Could use a little spring cleaning. But overall it was a great place to stay. Thanks to the host family for their hospitality. We enjoyed our stay!

Great place for a family get together

We had to gather from various parts of the country for a funeral in Richmond, Kentucky, and were in search of accommodation for our group. This log cabin on VRBO turned out to be the ideal choice for our party of 9. It provided the perfect balance of staying together while enjoying individual rooms, beds, and bathrooms. The cabin facilitated our needs perfectly, allowing us to share meals and engage in board games we brought along. The picturesque surroundings added to the charm, and we even had the delightful opportunity to feed apples to the horses. We unanimously agreed that if we ever find ourselves back in Richmond, this would be our go-to place without a doubt. Our experience was made even better by the fantastic host who was a pleasure to work with. A big thank you for hosting us and making our stay so memorable!

About the host

Hosted by John Martin

Host profile image
Early settlers in KY cut down ancient trees and hand-hewed logs to build one-room log cabins. We built this home using two pioneer cabins and a mule barn. It is a handcrafted work of art that we lovingly created and enhanced. This spring we built a new home using two more old log cabins and moved into it. We wanted to keep our big house intact and available to share. We live just past the barn on the same property and are available to welcome and give tours of the house for guests. Or guests can choose total privacy with no contact. Our first guests left us a glowing review and we are are really happy to think of people experiencing the beauty of our precious home, our farm, fishing ponds and wooded areas.

Why they chose this property

Totally unique! Beautiful historic restored log cabin with picturesque view of pristine pond and filled with treasures. Experience the best of rural Kentucky, enjoy the magnificent home and explore acres of fishing ponds, horses and more.

What makes this property unique

Massive 12 room, 3.5 bath home handcrafted with restored 200 yr old logs Filled with original art, antiques, pottery, crystal and unique items to enjoy. Hot tub, wrap around porches, swings, hammocks, picnic tables, paddle boats, horses, ponds and woods. Settle in and step back in time or use this as your base to travel to the Ky River (9 miles E), Lexington to Keenland Race Track, The Kentucky Horse Park.
