This home is located outside the rural town of Phillips and is an outdoor adventurer's dream come true. It is an ideal basecamp for all of your outdoor activities. Its located in close proximity to 3 downhill ski areas, hundreds of miles of cross country ski trails, hundred of miles of ATV & Snowmobile trails, not to mention the Appalachian Trail.
Back in the late 1800’s this home was built for a small family of farmers who wanted to live just outside of the bustling town of Phillips. In the early 1920’s the family lost everything and the home was sold to a wealthy merchant who lived nearby. The merchant converted the home into a barn for his draft horses and it remained in use as a barn for the next 40 years. When the merchant passed away, the structure sat vacant for roughly 10 years until my Uncle Charles & Aunt Mary decided to purchase the property. Charles was a carpenter from New Jersey and made this house his final project….. that he never really finished. Charles passed away early in life leaving Mary to create the home that you see today.

This house had plenty of room to sleep and play. The sleeping areas were separate from the kitchen and living room. All the basics were there, such as kitchen tools , bedding , tv , and it was clean. We did not need heat or air. The windows were open day and night and it was great sleeping and sitting in the day. We would rent it again.
The location of the house is amazing. There are atv trails around that you can go ride on. Very quiet neighborhood. The only thing i would change is have some kind of phone service. But the owner did fair warn us of the issue. So all in all it was very peaceful and quiet. Much needed vacation
This lovely farmhouse was a perfect location for our hiking plans of area waterfalls & mountain vist
This house (especially the kitchen) was well stocked with all the essentials needed for a great vacation. We also appreciated all the games & movies geared for children. The layout of this cozy home also provides enough space & privacy for family or groups of friends to be able to spread out on rainy days.
This was a nice authentic maine cabin experience. Enjoyed the peace and quiet. Had great quiet time which I needed. Close the attractions I wanted to see. Reminded me of going to maine every summer as a kid and staying in my family's cabin. Loved it. Host was readily available and very nice. Would definitely recommend.
This property is the essence of rural Maine. Quiet back road with minimal traffic. I grew up in a similar town about an hour away and the atmosphere is very similar. I was happy with the homey atmosphere. The only advice that I would give anyone is to bring a good supply of bottled water. I’m very familiar with having well water in a home and there is a slight reddish tinge to the tap water at this property. This issue is not addressed in the property description, so there’s no indication for those who would have a problem with it.
Remote, peaceful and the host was great. Definitely a great value. No internet and very limited phone service. We met so many wonderfully nice people with only one nosey exception. . Small's Falls is close and absolutely beautiful.
My boyfriend stayed at the property last year for a guys weekend. He loved it so much that he suggested it for a family vacation. We were not disappointed! Enough space for the five of us and the fur babies. We loved the easy access to the miles of ATV trails, the closeness to the river, and the peace & quiet. We had a great stay and will definitely book again.
Loved this old house/cabin. Just outside the little town of Phillips. Very off the grid - no internet or TV reception, weak cell phone signal. Place was rustic, but very comfortable. Had everything we needed to prepare meals. There is a decent sized grocery in town where we were able to buy everything we needed including newspaper to keep up to date. No TV reception, but good collection of DVDs, games, books available. Went into town to the public library to use the WiFi. Very peaceful and quiet.
This was an amazing property. It was just what we were looking for with zero distractions from our busy life. Thanks very much

Cozy rustic cottage
The house is quaint, cozy, and lovingly cared for. We had no cell reception for our ski weekend to celebrate the New Year, and it was perfect! We were able to relax in the comfort of a home that had everything you need and nothing else to distract you from the area or the environment. You could tell you were staying in a house that was cared for by a family looking to create a welcoming environment, instead of just a cold, uninviting place to stay where someone rents just for profit. Will love to come back next year!

The property was beautiful...
and in a quiet area. We saw only 1 car the entire time we were there. There was plenty of room for the 5 of us. The only thing that could have made it better was a few board games for the kids to play. Otherwise we had a great time just hanging out in the evenings.
