Miss Jo’s is one of three options at Sandy Cut Cabins. It’s a cozy one bedroom log cabin with a large private back deck. Miss Jo’s Cabin is just 2 miles from historic downtown Saluda and conveniently located beside part of the Sand Cut Pass railroad. Unfortunately, the train no longer travels the Saluda Grade but guests enjoy hiking along the old tracks for a day of exploring the quaint little town of Saluda. If you’re the adventurous type, Saluda offers Green River Adventures right downtown as well as The Gorge zip line. Just one mile past the cabin you’ll find Pearson Falls waterfall. It’s a moderate hike and enjoyable for children and “children at heart”. There are many day trip options in the area including the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, DuPont State Forest which has several waterfalls, and the Tryon International Equestrian Center. Please keep in mind that being surrounded by nature includes pesky insects and bugs and occasionally they get inside the cabin. The fire pit and overlook bench are shared spaces. The driveway is steep but most vehicles can manage it at a slow steady pace.

Great cabin. Great, secluded location. With nights dipping into the 40s, the hot tub was amazing. I needed a weekend getaway and this cabin is perfect for couples. Everything was comfortable and the provisions were nice. Please note: the last road going up to the cabin is STEEP! Also, do not use GPS. If you take Pearson Fall Road right between the Ivy House and Wildflour Bakery in Saluda, you will find the cabin much easier. It is a long gravel road that turns to a single lane since the floods. Pass through the tunnel and make a left and the cabin is UP the road on the left. This area was hard-hit during Helene and is being impacted by the Polk County fires. However, if you have a chance, please go and support the area with your tourism. Real friendly people there just trying to recover financially from the destruction.
We really enjoyed our stay at Miss Jo’s cabin.Property was very clean, quiet, and cozy.We had to re-schedule from our original date because of the weather, the owners reached out to us and made that process very easy. The driveway is very steep, which was communicated to us ahead of time. If you have the option of being an all wheel drive vehicle you will definitely want to do that.
Very nice cabin! We enjoyed our relaxing stay very much. Penny had everything you could think of. Loved the hot tub even though it was cold. The new heater was wonderful. Road up to the house is steep but our Terrain was able to make the climb with no 4 wheel drive. We would stay again.
Just what we were looking for - a cozy, fairly private cabin with a hot tub. Close to all saluda offers, especially once road work/Helene recovery is completed.
We ran into a couple of small issues during our stay, both related to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and resulting construction on the main road. Our hosts were available and did all they could to resolve our issues.
One note - The Internet was out for the entirety of our stay. Totally understand given the circumstances. Hosts mentioned being aware of it being down before our stay during an unrelated conversation with them. Letting us know ahead of time that the Internet wasn't working would have allowed for us to work around this for work/school obligations. Instead, we had to scramble a bit.
Despite this - we had a great time and would return!
Loved the location of this cozy place - secluded and private but close to town for restaurants. Description was accurate and we can recommend for a peaceful stay.
Picked the same time as Debbie came to visit. Didn’t get a chance for roaming. The cabin still offered a relaxing time with all the comforts we needed. Thanks for the relaxing visit, we plan to return soon ( and hopefully leave the tropical storm home next time)
We had a very nice and relaxing stay at Ms jo’s cabin. The cabin was very clean, organized and had everything we needed. The front porch was great with the swing and rocking chairs. The host were very nice and responsive. We would stay again.
Cabin is great , need new cover for hot tub, looks like the commode has been leaking for a while, we had a good time, love the Privacy & porch swing & rockers , met the owner, real friendly guy Looking forward to the next visit, VRBO is impossible for me to navigate
It was perfect, private and just right for my husband and I for a wonderful long weekend. It was close to lots of hiking- we rented a car. It had everything we needed. Make sure to follow the driving instructions from the VRBO versus entering the address on Google. It’s hard to find unless you follow their directions and try to arrive when it’s still daylight the first time. We would rent again for sure and recommend it.
Great place! Exactly what I was looking for - the cabin is private, with a nice little spot for a mountain views even in the summer, but still close to town for supplies. I enjoyed the firepit and back porch. Perfect for one to two people. IF you're looking for a place to really get away from it all, this is it. The cabin itself is fairly small, but has all the necessities, including high speed wifi! Would rent again.
We really enjoyed our stay at Miss Jo's! The cabin and amenities were just as described in the listing. The place was stocked with anything we might have needed and was very clean. The one thing I do have to mention is the bed. The mattress really does need to be replaced. I hate to even mention it because we so enjoyed staying here, but wanted to give an honest assessment for those looking to book this cabin in the future.
Other than that, the location was perfect for visiting the local attractions...Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, the Biltmore, and downtown Saluda. It really was the perfect weekend getaway!
It was my second time there, and just as great as I remember it! I definitely recommend if you’re looking for a nice quiet getaway everything was excellent.
Location was a bit challenging to find at first. Driveway was steep, but worth the trek! Cabin was perfect for us! Quiet and peaceful in the hot tub under the stars and trees. Just what we needed to break away from Chicago suburbia! Would stay here again! The host was timely in communication and the property is well maintained and cleanly!
We enjoyed our stay at Miss Jo's. Communication and check-in were great. The driveway didn't really bother us - just don't hesitate at the bottom. The drive in on the dirt road was fine, and there's a lovely little waterfall along the way. Do be aware that if you keep going past Sand Cut to Pearson's Falls there are a couple of areas of the road that aren't quite as good. But still passable.
The cabin is clean, and the kitchen well-appointed. We hadn't understood from the photos how small the bedroom really is. Our assumption was that the two closets would provide space to stow our stuff, but one was filled with linens, and the other just had a clothes rod with coat hangers (we didn't have dress clothes with us!) and one shelf. Not a huge problem but for a four-night stay it was hard to live out of suitcases in a tight bedroom. There is no room for a dresser, and no shelf space. While we totally understand the limitations of the space, we wondered if the hosts could add some wall hooks - maybe at least a coat hook or two in the entry way, and maybe open up one shelf in the left closet. The bed was comfortable, the living room was fine, and we enjoyed the hot tub.
Be sure to walk up the hill (to your right as you exit the front door) to the chair. We didn't really think it was going to be much till we got there, but there's a wonderful view.
We enjoyed the town of Saluda and Pearson's Falls was spectacular, well worth the entry fee.
Overall we had a very nice stay!

About the host

We have lived in Saluda for over 25 years. In the early 70's Robert was Saluda's first health care provider. After serving as the first Medical Director of the Saluda Medical Center he returned to his family occupation and his true passion..flying. His life as an 'ag pilot' has taken the entire family on remarkable journey's across the country for years.
Why they chose this property
When looking for a place to spend our time, on the rare occasions we were home, we found the property at Sand Cut Pass. Before any structures were placed on the property we used the property as a place to introduce our children to the wonders of camping in the mountains. We set up camp on the banks of the Pacolet River every chance we had. Our son learned how to bathe in the ice cold river water and play 'Pooh Sticks' from the bridge. One of the large rocks in the river is still known as 'Joshua's Rock' in our family. Eventually we put a small cabin up higher on the property so we were less inclined to run back to our home in town. This cabin is now used as a 'caretaker's cottage' In the late 90's came the decision to build 'Crooked Cabin'. The cabin was built out of a 'labor of love'. The cabin was to be built by us but shortly after starting the construction on the cabin Robert suffered a severe accident which prevented him from doing as much work as he would have liked. At that time both family and friends joined in to help complete the construction on the cabin. We have since then enjoyed sharing our retreat with family, friends and our wonderful guests.
What makes this property unique
The property upon which the cabin is located is protected on all sides which increases the privacy, however, it is less than 5 minutes from I-26 which can lead to a multiple of mountain adventures. With the outside fire pit on the property you can have the feel of the 'great out doors', then relax in our luxurious hot tub on the back deck or retire to the comfort of your cabin. The driveway is steep but 4 wheel drive/AWD isn’t required to drive up. Pickups and hybrid vehicles tend to have more trouble with the incline. However, most of our guests manage to drive up without too much difficulty.
