About this property

Old Town Kenai Bluff House, Breathtaking Views

Kenai Bluff House is located in downtown historic Kenai. The house was built in 1935, and bought by my grandparents in 1947. My dad was raised in this house! Of course, the house has been remodeled and has all the modern conveniences, but has a wonderful and rich family history. The home has four bedrooms and two bathrooms, a fully stocked kitchen and plenty of room for your whole family.

The property has a large lawn and outdoor furniture for enjoying the stunning view of Cook Inlet. You can watch the fishing boats come and go with the tide. Eagles often land right on the lawn as they are out cruising for their next ocean meal.

Kenai is a small town and the “downtown” is quaint and quiet. The home is located at the end of a residential street. It is located next door to Erik Hansen Scout Park, a small community park and contains a bronze statue of a Boy Scout overlooking the Cook Inlet. Interpretive displays point out many physical features of the landscape and a memorial plaque is attached to the base of the statue. Park includes few trees, some shrubs, two flower gardens, and a gravel walkway leading to the bluff’s edge. This is a great area just to sit, relax and enjoy the extensive views over the lower Cook Inlet, tidal lands, and mouth of the Kenai River.

We are located within walking distance of the historical Russian Orthodox Church and Kenai Visitor and Convention Center which has a historical walking tour available within this area. This property is on the walking tour, as The Showalter House (#10) !!

There are several nice places to eat where you can walk as well.

Reasonable rates per night for four people. No separate cleaning fee. However, guests must not leave fish remains on property. Cleaning fee applies if fish remains are left on property.

Beautiful property with awesome Kenai River mouth and Cook Inlet views. Eagles soar over yard and often land. Loved everything about this historic 1935 built home.

Love Old Town

We fish the Kenai every year and usually camp or spend 2 nights in a hotel. This year we had family visiting from out of state. We planned 2 different fishing trips so needed to stay for 5 days. A house was the perfect solution. The location was perfect with a great view of the mouth of the river and the inlet. My husband spent several hours on the bluff watching dip netters and boats coming and going. We walked around the neighborhood and enjoyed the historic buildings. The house was well equipped and comfortable. We will come back!

Perfect weekend

We were in town for my dad's 95th birthday and my brothers nd sisters enjoyed the property. The bluff views were amazing. We managed to get the only sunny weekend in a couple month run.

Favorite By Far!

We absolutely loved this place! There's so much space and we felt so at home. Tried to stay longer but they were all booked up. Lesson learned, book this place early! If we ever get the chance to come back to Alaska, we will definitely be staying here!

Beautiful View

Love the view, right on the bluff, overlooking the mouth of the Kenai River and ocean; plus mountains! Property is old, but very roomy and nice set up; it does need some minor maintenance, and it was sometimes difficult to get a response from owners when we had questions. Overall, we enjoyed our stay!

Fishing with Friends

This place was great. Not right on the shoreline like the pictures indicate, but really enjoyable. We had fires in the back yard fire pit and eagles land feet from us and what a great time. Highly recommend to stay here. Personally plan on another stay here. Thanks

Ak Adventure with daughter and grands

Great location and plenty of room. Not nasty dirty but not as clean as it should be. We saw in guest book a baseball team eating three meals a day was here before us but some of the dirt was before them. I would stay again for location and split bedrooms were good for separating kids and us old folks.

Family Trip

Great house for 3 families (8 of us) to stay in. Space for every one to have their own space! Loved having a view of the water, the teens loved venturing down the road for beach access and checking the beaches for sea creatures during low tide. We had eagles fly by all the time and even have a couple stop in the yard. Thanks for sharing your house with us!!

Beautiful views!

This property is in a fantastic location, with the best views ever! The house is old but large and great for families or large groups. The kitchen is large but could use more consistency with dishes. The house does need some minor maintenance, and small fixes that would go a long way. We had a great time and really enjoyed the large yard, fire pit and especially the views.

Amazing views and updated house!!!

The pictures of the view on this site do not do it justice!!! The house is a tall bluff that looks over the ocean/Kenai river mouth and has mountains across the ocean that create the most amazing sunset you've ever seen! The house is plenty big for lots of people with lots of sleeping room. Fantastic!

Beautiful Views

The house had beautiful views and was spacious. It is an older home that could use some TLC though to make it truly exceptional. The kitchen was rather hit and miss on dishes. We also had some issues with the wifi but the owners were helpful getting it fixed when they were contacted. Overall I would recommend the location but some extra effort in the house would really make it Great!

Five Guys

We have been going to Alaska for the last 21 years. We lost cabin that we stayed at for the last five years and were looking for another place to stay. We need a place that had five beds. Two bathes was a bonus. We came across the Bluff House and it seemed too good to be true. It was not! It has everything we could ask for and more. At first sight, we all said the same thing. "Our wives would love this place" Just as comfortable as home with a great view. Have already reserved for next year.

Family Reunion

What a beautiful view! This home has been nicely remodeled for the age of the home. It fit our families perfectly. Having coffee in the morning watching the seals, boats and the planes come and go was very enjoyable. The day of our family gathering it was raining, but there was still plenty of room. The women gathered in the kitchen and the men in the viewing room. The kids enjoyed having their own rooms upstairs. The location was perfect and the neighborhood very quiet. We did have people waking by and checking the place out because it is on the historical tour, but they were never a bother. We would definately stay here again. Thanks so much!

Very special place

It is just as described. This was the second time we have stayed at Bluff Housed. We would like to stay next year but it was already booked. It is close to everything but is on a dead end street and out of the way. The view from the yard or sun room is spectacular. The only problem we had was trying to get hold of the owner. I tried several times to contact her by email, HomeAway message, and phone with no success. She finely got back to me to get my credit card # which is why I was trying to get hold of her in the first place. The bank had changed the # because of suspicious activity. When we got to the house, the code we had did not work but there where four phone numbers posted in the window and we where able to get hold of someone that came promptly down to let us in. In the end, everything worked out. I would recommend Bluff House to anyone without question.

Where Were The Owners??

We rented this house 6 months before we arrived. I communicated via email and telephone about how many people we had, that we needed the freezer, and when we were coming. I hadn’t heard from them in the week before we left, so we called several times, texted several times, even left a message on their Facebook page, to find out directions to the house, how to GET INTO the house, and to confirm we had the use of a freezer. We flew into Anchorage, drove 3+ hours to Kenai, arriving at the home exhausted, only to find the house locked and no code to get inside. We tracked down the Owners personal home (where we sent the check), only to find no one home. After walking around the home, we found a housekeeper getting ready to leave and explained to her our situation. As a stroke of luck, she knew the code to get inside the VRBO home. After traveling all day, we were forced to go on a scavenger hunt to try and get into a home that we rented and paid for. Of course the check had already cleared. And to top it off, the shed that apparently housed the freezer to store fish was locked – and no one had the combination. For the entire time we were in Kenia, the Owners had not once called, or come over to see how we were doing, or apologize for failing to follow through with their rental obligations. To this day, the Owners have not made any contact with us.

Great Time In Alaska

We have stayed at the Bluff House several times. It is central for all of our activities (fishing). The views from the property are stunning. Jennifer and Jason more than met all of our requests during the stay.

About the host

Hosted by Jennifer and Jason Yeoman

Host profile image
This house was past down to me from my dad. He was raised in this house along with all his siblings in only 4 rooms including the kitchen, which did not have a bathroom or a living room.

I was born and raised on the Kenai Peninsula as well and Jason was born in Nome and has lived on the Kenai Peninsula since 1994.

We lived in this house with our growing family and loved being so close to town, but feeling like being out of town.

We hope to share our culture with you as I, Jennifer, am part Dena'ina Athabaskin and Jason is part Inupiaq.

Why they chose this property

The view that you will have from this property is amazing! You can see all three mountains, Mt. Spurr, Mt. Redoubt and Mt. Iliamna! The sunrise and sun sets are seen from this property, and are incredible, especially in the winter months! You can see the dip net fishery in the month of July, as well as all entire commercial fishing boats coming in and out of the river with the various openings. If you are lucky, you might see a beluga or two and you will definitely see seagulls and eagles flying and landing on the bluff!

Alaska has endless places to visit and see! We have tried to bring some of it to the rooms for you to enjoy. Any questions that you may have about what Alaska has to offer you we would be happy to help with!

What makes this property unique

The land of the midnight sun can bring much light that many people are not use to. The rooms have black out blinds that help people who need a little extra help to go to sleep. The house is located on a street which is closed to through traffic, therefore is very quiet!
