Oasis in the city!

We loved our stay at this home. Perfect launching point for exploring the city or just hanging out in the neighborhood. The apartment had all we needed for our family stay, including great kitchen, washer/dryer and nice sized living area and bedrooms. Shelly was so accommodating and helpful before and during our stay. Will definitely be back!

We had a very nice stay at Mermaid Manor

This was our second time staying here. The apartment is open and bright with lots of sunshine and a balcony from which you have a view through the palms of the ocean. We stayed for about 3 weeks and the well stocked kitchen allowed us to cook. There ware pots of all sizes and all the necessary appliances. We were in a short walk from the beach, stores and restaurants. We will be visiting the Los Angels area again next year and hope Mermaid Manor will be available for us. The combination of convenient location and amenities can't be beat.

Absolutely gorgeous!

I just returned from a week in this beautiful apartment. Talk about perfection! Two blocks from the beach (a very quiet one at that) and a magnificent view of the ocean and lagoon from the terrace. It was so great to come 'home' every night instead of being in a sterile hotel room. Shelly absolutely thought of everything and the place was well stocked with all the amenities you could need. Her detailed instructions on where to find everything were also most welcome, The rooms are spacious and airy and I loved the decor. If you're looking for a quiet, comfy place to stay, this is definitely it. I will most certainly be back!

Lots of space. Very clean. Excelecnt Kitchen. Great location for beach and L.A. attractions

We like the Playa del Rey area because it is not crowded and still has restaurants and great beach and walking. The apartment is spacious and well maintained. Lots of room for the two of us and could work well for 4. The place is bright and airy. The balcony lets you enjoy the fresh sea breezes. The kitchen is well supplied for preparing meals and storing leftovers in the big fridge. The only drawback is the airplane noise if you have the windows open and watch TV. The bedrooms are on the north side of the house so the planes do not interfere with sleeping. We will certainly want to stay here again if it is available on our future visits to LA.

Amazing Stay in Playa del Rey!

We stayed at the Dolphin Pod for five nights - it is a great place with a beautiful view of both the ocean and the lagoon. The location is great, walking distance to the beach, restaurants, bike path, the lagoon and a really nice playground. We are a family with two adults and three kids (ages 5, 3 and 2 months) and the property was just right for us. It is a great place for a family to stay - there are toys, books, a wagon, movies and games for the kids. The apartment is bright and airy with lots of natural light. There is not much noise and a wonderful breeze is always blowing through. We especially enjoyed the hummingbirds who liked to perch on the branches right off the deck. Shelly was so helpful, giving us tips on where to eat, where to shop and where to go. She was so accommodating, helping us with everything that we needed and even things that we didn't know that we needed (but that the kids were grateful for!). I'm sure she would have gone out of her way to get us anything that we needed. When we come back to Playa del Rey (and we will!), we would definitely stay here again!!

Great Apartment In An Excellent Location - Easy & Fun!

I've done a lot of rentals on the old VRBO & other sites and this could be one of the best. Great, fully stocked apartment that worked well for 2 adults and two kids. Loved the location, which is just the other side of the Marina, so it's a bit less crazy that Venice Beach but you still have access to it along the bike path, which is nearby. This is your "I want a place that's clean, comfortable, flexible and I can just roll right out to the beach," kind of place. You're also close to conservation land that's fun to explore and there are restaurants and a small sop nearby (Italian place is amazing). A short ride to supermarkets and anything else you could need. I read back on some of the reviews and some people mentioned LAX noise. For us, it was not an issue at all. You'll hear planes, as you would on the beach North or South, but they really weren't very loud or and not an issue. Shelly is wonderful - organized and easy to work with. I'm in LA a lot and have rented a lot of place in and around the Venice Beach, MDR, PDR Santa Monica area and this is my favorite. A gem!

Great location!

Great location and owner!

Shelly was sweet from the beginning & went out of her way to make sure we were happy. This property is located very close to the park and beach, as well as local restaurants. I'm not really sure why the other reviews says it's noisy and loud, we slept just fine. we had no issues at all and my 3 year old LOVED watching the planes in the distance! I would definitely recommend staying here. Thanks again Shelly for making our stay great!

Basic accommodations, not ideal for family, beware of dog

The accommodations are fine - the owner is working on updating the kitchen which should help with the aesthetics. The space was good for our family of 3 (2 year old daughter). We enjoyed eating breakfast on the balcony. However, this place is not ideal for a young family - especially one travelling from the East Coast where your daughter needs to go to bed at 6:30p/7p. We're used to hearing our neighbors coming/going from work, airplanes, etc. - but we were unable to keep our windows open from sleeping because of how noisy the folks in neighboring buildings are. I must make a specific comment about the upstairs neighbors dog (who is also the owner of this property). She unfortunately really has no courtesy of her dog - she was walking down the driveway without it on a leash and it ran right up to me barking in my face. I don't know this dog - I don't know if it's going to attack. I also have a 2 year old kid with me! Her response was "oh I was waiting for you to pass so the dog wouldn't see you". What kind of response is that? Control your dog, especially considering it barking in people's faces is a regular occurrence. The dog is also outside on the porch barking regularly throughout the day and night, which adds to the difficulty of sleeping with windows open. This place is better suited for those who don't intend to go to sleep without difficulty until 1am and for those who are comfortable with a random dog constantly barking in your face.

Sunny Days in PDR

Shelly's home in Playa del Rey provided everything we needed and more. The home was clean, comfortable and spacious with a kitchen and dining area that enabled us to prepare meals and entertain during the Christmas season. The location near the ocean made the beautiful sunrises and sunsets a quick walk away. Shelly was a wonderful host and we enjoyed her kind, positive attention to our needs. We will be back!

The condo was nice and in a good location. The downstairs tenant was rude and hard to deal with.

The landlord was a bit overbearing mainly due to issues with parking my large F250 in the small area we were provided. Location and cleanliness was great! I think everything would have been smooth had parking not been an issue for the downstairs tenant.

Excellent accommodations at Playa del Rey

This property is perfect! Immaculately clean and accommodating - big and spacious. My elderly Mother and I visited California to see my nieces and this property is between them. It was a great place to gather, sit around the table and talk. My Mother taught her granddaughters how to make apple pies in the kitchen. It was perfectly set up for the "teaching event". There is even a rolling pin in the kitchen! How often does that happen? There is a short walk to the beach and close beach parking if you don't want to walk. I ran the bike trail every day and very much enjoyed the views. We visited the Ronald Reagan museum and if you time it right, it only takes about an hour to get there. It is beautiful! We also visited the Griffith Observatory and took a tour of Paramount Pictures. We drove to New Port Beach and ate lunch on Balboa Island. Local to this property, we ate lunch at Playa Provisions and I highly recommend the fish tacos. The pizza from Hank's is also very good and easy to find and pick up if you don't want to wait on delivery. We also took a helicopter to Catalina Island and rode the Catalina Express back. I loved this island and will definitely go there again! We didn't have much time to stay on the island and you need to plan ahead to get the most of your trip. We had lunch and drinks at Luau Larry's. It was so much fun! We made several trips to Santa Monica and ate at the Independence. http://www.independencetavern.com/#!projects/project-9.html This is a great place to eat and people watch - the food and drinks are excellent. The parmesan truffle fries are to die for and I also recommend the white fish toast. Shelly is a sweetheart and worked with me on our very late reservation. I appreciate her friendliness! I would absolutely recommend this property to my friends and I would stay here again!

Fantastic getaway that felt like home

We couldn't have been happier with our stay at Mermaid Manor. Shelly was awesome and made us feel at home from day 1. She is very knowledgeable on the area and provided many great recommendations. The best feature of this property is it's proximity to the beach and the fantastic ocean breezes that met us each day. The accommodations were very comfortable and everything we could ask for was provided. We will definitely be back again the next time we visit Los Angeles.

Absolutely wonderful!!!

What a wonderful apt, community, and host!! We had a great trip to Playa Del Rey. This apt was so cute and comfy. Everything we needed was there. I can't say enough about the location. So close to the beach. We were able to easily walk to the beach for swimming, volleyball, or sunsets. We even rented bikes and rode to Venice Beach and Santa Monica Pier. There were plenty of restaurants and coffee shops in the neighborhood to keep us happy. Plus the big city (LA), and airport were close enough for easy access, but we felt like we were in a small town. Shelly was amazing! Very helpful and accommodating. She answered all our questions, always had a smile for us, and even gave us beach chairs and an umbrella for the beach. We would absolutely love to come back someday! And highly recommend. Quite a California jewel we found! Thanks Shelly!!

Hidden gem at a great price!

Great location paired with wonderful property management. Shelly is a welcoming hostess with vast knowledge of SoCal fun. The clean, well-kept property is conveniently located for beach hopping or exploring L.A. We came with our family of five and had a great time. The property is bargain priced for the neighborhood and within walking distance to a nice beach area and just a block or two from the bike trail. Extraordinary location!

We stayed 16 days in this lovely place, very conveniently located for us between friends and relatives in the area and only blocks from the beach. The space was roomy and suited our needs to a tee. We were able to cook when we chose and take advantage of wonderful fresh restaurants in the neighborhood. Our hostess was very accomodating but allowed us our privacy. Overall a very positive experience.

Perfect Christmas Holidays

Our family had a very nice Christmas Holiday in Seahorse Manor at Playa del Rey. The apartment was perfect for us! Everything we needed was there. We had a gorgeous view at the ocean, palm trees and the pond. We really liked the bikes to go on the beach. We can recommend this place to everybody, especially to families! Thanks Shelly!

Holiday Break

My sons and I had a wonderful time at the apartment in Playa Del Rey. It was a perfect location, and very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans, so cooking was a breeze. The apartment was simple and easy, and a perfect place to spend Thanksgiving with both of my sons on the west coast.

Perfect Vacation Stay

The apartment fit our needs perfectly and is located in a very scenic neighborhood. The owner Shelly has thought of practically every need, and added some creative amenities to make the stay totally enjoyable and suitable for almost any recreational activity (bikes, etc).
