We had anouther very enjoyable stay the Oar house. The host John was easy to contact and very accommodating. We chose the Tombstone since it is one of the larger units, large kitchen & family room giving us plenty of room to relax. This is our go to when visting New Castle.Jeff & Barb
Such a fun place for our family to visit. Felt like we were in the comfort of our own home with funner decor! John and Cori were so easy to communicate with as well!! Will definitely be coming back for a longer stay!!
This was a great place to stay, lots of room and great amenities. Met the owners when we first arrived and they were very friendly. We got to visit Glenwood caverns the next day and got a nice discount from the inn which was great! Would definitely stay again!
We had a nice stay in the Tombstone room. There was plenty of space for our family and the kitchen was nicely stocked with the essentials. We enjoyed the view from our room which is over the restaurant overlooking the town.

Great place!
Our stay really exceeded our expectations. John and Cori were both great and all of the staff at Elk Creek Mining. We were greeted with a smile, late at night for our check in by Johnny, who showed us around and made sure we were comfortable. Everything we could have needed was provided and extremely clean. Would highly recommend to anyone staying in the area!

Liked: Cleanliness
Disliked: Check-in, listing accuracy
Photos are not accurate.
First, there is no restaurant/bar below the units. It is now a hair salon. Second, the photos f the Tombstone suite are not accurate. Main bedroom is different. This entire boutique rooms hotel is for sale. There is no hotel style security lock on any of the doors. We found the hallway door to the bedroom door unlocked.
There were three of us-parents and an adult "child," so it was really nice to have the privacy of a bedroom, which we gave to him, while we slept in the comfortable pull-out sofa in the living room. As we get up earlier than he does, we could make mild noise and he never heard us. There's a full kitchen too, and room for more people. We took a nice early morning walk on the backstreets, which we enjoyed.

Not as advertised
The Tombstone suite was not as we had expected- the kitchen was vastly incomplete for basic cooking/eating, the 2 queen pull-out couches were hardly twin size and very uncomfortable, the whole place was not very clean/dusted/streak-free. Also to note, the property is very close to the railroad; the night we stayed a train went through at midnight and 6 am blowing it's horn. On the bright side John and his son were very quick to respond to needs/issues, and our kids thoroughly enjoyed playing hungry, hungry hippos. The building has fun historic character.
Four people, one washcloth in the room. Text the owner who told me to find a housekeeper to ask for more ( I’m already undressed to shower) or he could leave some hanging on the door. Got home after a late evening and still no washcloths. Text again the next morning and finally got a knock on the door and got handed two, stiff what looked to be dishcloths.
Ok for the price.
Our stay at Tombstone was a lot of fun. We were initially concerned with there only being one bed, but the kids got a kick out of all couches and sleeper sofas. The biggest thrill of the week was when the kids found Mario 3.
My only minor complaint was that I did t know that the laundry in the back required money. Every other VRBO that I have booked has had laundry included. I at least would have brought some quarters had I known.
The property was perfect for my month long stay in New Castle. I had originally been planning to stay in Glenwood Springs but I found this listing and am so glad I ended up here instead. The Tombstone unit is super spacious and with great accommodations (comfy couches/lots of sitting room, TV with all kinds of connection options, stocked kitchen, lots of towels, big closet). John was available to answer questions as I had them. It was nice to get 10% off at the restaurant downstairs (I ate there many times when I didn't feel like cooking AND it didn't get too loud or smell like a restaurant from within the unit itself which was nice). As a single female, I felt very safe - there were multiple locks on the doors and a motion activated light outside of the building. Also, the location is second to none. I loved being on main street with access to all the different restaurants. The building is also walking distance to hikes around New Castle. This was my first long term VRBO stay and I really enjoyed the experience - thanks!

About the host
Hosted by John
We run our businesses as family, My name is John, wife Cori, son's Johnny and Treigh. Cori takes care of the vital side of things working at Valley View Hospital to maintain health insurance benefits for me and the boys. We love four wheeling (Cori perhaps has the nicest jeep ever and Johnny's not far behind!) We love to take our RZR and four wheelers to Moab, UT in the winter when we are not snowmobiling. Our kids grew up at Lake Powell boating and having a good time with family and friends. We have super fast internet in Tombstone because both kids are serious video gamers. Cori and I love gold mining and dredging and recently had one of our best clean ups ever on Elk Creek which runs through New Castle. Other than that we have been in the restaurant business our whole lives and want to take our hospitality to the next level on the top side of our building. Work Hard, Play Harder!!!!
Why they chose this property
I personally have had a love for old mining towns, gold mining, and historical buildings since first visiting Blackhawk and Central City Colorado in 1979 when they were still just ghost towns. In 1999 New Castle was the fastest growing town in Colorado so we decided to stake our claim and expand our restaurant business from Nearby Glenwood Springs. We opened Elk Creek Mining Company in September of that year with 5 apartments upstairs. in 2008 we decided to close our business in Glenwood and focus solely on Elk Creek Mining Co. The pictures in our hallways of The Ore House Inn Depict Downtown New Castle's history and show our building as a gas station downstairs with a boarding house upstairs. Our restaurant has won The Local's Choice award for best restaurant every year since 1999 winning gold every year but two and winning silver in those cases: Notable considering we have never asked anyone to vote for us in this age of social media! After renting apartments upstairs for nearly 20 years and growing tired of having tenants rough house our building we decided to go back to the building's roots and become a boarding house again. My wife, my two son's and I have put our heart and souls into this effort and hope you are impressed with what we have accomplished. Cori and I believe New Castle is the best town on earth to raise a family and New Castle was recently named the 5th safest town in Colorado and the ONLY ONE on the western slope! When I first moved here in 1996 A lot of folks in Glenwood Springs scoffed at the idea "Why would you move to New Castle?" Those very same folks live here now!
What makes this property unique
130 year old building that used to be a boarding house in a town full of saloons and brothels! At one point New Castle was actually seriously going to be considered to be the state capital. Teddy Roosevelt hunted here when he stayed at the Hotel Colorado and brought tons of friends and nearly wiped out our entire bear population. (we have pictures of him across the river from our building). Gateway to perhaps the best snowmobiling the world has to offer. SOOO many offroad and four wheelng trails close by and many others within an arms reach. Unique Downtown revival, we have lots of great restaurants and even a new bakery opening up! Check some of them out: Elk Creek Mining Company, Hogback Pizza, Eat! Bistro, and Black Dog Saloon just to name a few of our favorites: also your typical fast food and other restaurants.
