Nice Jungle House

Nice house in the jungle, we liked that. Great outdoor space. We live in Roatan and was on Utila following the band IMOX. The only draw back was distance to main street, need a golf cart.

Gorgeous house and nice and quiet

We loved our stay at Matthew's house. It's a beautiful house with lots of wood finishing. It's not in the city center, but that makes for nice quiet evenings while still be close enough to quickly get to anywhere on the island.

Nice Quality House + A Lot of Space!

This is a well-built house with a lot of room to spread out! It is about 1.5 km (I think) from the main road on the island, so you can get some peace and quiet. A short walk to town and an even shorter walk to Circle K for snacks, etc. Overall a great value. No negatives, a solid choice for a group stay!

Privacy and tranquility

Beautiful property! Pictures need to be updated but wow! The plunge pool is perfect for cooling off from the sun. The garden is alive! Beautiful! Little ways from town, tuk tuks are always near or get a rental in town(golf cart, scooter, etc) Communication with owner and property manager are great. Any issues or concerns just contact them. Realize you’re on an island time, it’s not a city pace. Enjoy the views and sunshine. Relax and enjoy the tranquility. House is perfect for two couple and a few friends(or kids) Aircon is great in the bedrooms but fans are a must. Loved the house plus the Utila brewery is just steps away.

It was a beautiful home situated in a picturesque location. The wrap around deck was great

We stayed with our daughter and son in law and it was very nice. All the comforts of home. It was peaceful and quiet and far enough away from the nightlife to enjoy nature. We would recommend this location to those coming to Utila.

Realy beautifull and quiet place.

Great, spacious house

The house is great : clean, well upkept and quiet, as it is removed from town. We preferred walking to and back from town but tuk tuks will bring you there in less than 10 minutes from town center. Great communication with Matthew the owner, and on site Shelby was most helpful and increadibly knowledgeable about everything Utila. Be sure to try all the spots listed on the refrigerator and you cannot go wrong! Highly recommend this home in Utila.

Very private hide-a-way

This home is ideally located - near enough to town to walk and secluded enough to be oh, so peaceful. The grounds are well maintained and beautifully landscaped with a small fresh water pool, lovely trees and colourful flowering shrubs. Great service is provided by a manager local to Utila. His knowledge and friendliness enhanced our stay considerably. This was probably the most relaxing vacation we have ever had. Utila is a wonderful place filed with smiling, welcoming people. Over our 5 week stay we toured the Chocolate Factory, drove around the island, enjoyed almost all the bars/restaurants and shopped in the markets. We arrived in early January and had lots of rain - winter season. One day it rained so hard that we went outside with soap and shampoo and showered in the rainwater - a treat for us! The avocados and mangoes are not in season this early but great quantities of fresh fruit come in from the mainland.

Positively amazing!!!

Where do I even begin about this gem of a home? You cannot go wrong by renting Matthew's home!! It is beautiful, spacious, clean and just lovely!! The grounds are immaculate, just beautiful plants (some that I have never even heard of!! There is a small pool that was a total surprise to us!! La Mayur is set back in the jungle, it is only a short golf cart ride to town and to the beach. The house itself is stocked well with linens and towels. The 2 bedrooms on the first floor have the A/C units and they work well. We rarely used them as we just left all of the windows and doors open. The home is secure, it is fenced in. We always felt completely safe, whether we were at home or in town!! The complete walk around deck of the house is fantastic for watching the sunrise and sunset. There is a lovely swing on the porch to sit and watch the thousands of fireflies that show off nightly. You might catch an iquana in the back field or even way up in the trees!! This home is lovely as is Matthew, the home owner and Shelby, the caretaker! You won't be sorry for staying here while on Utila!!

Great house

I loved the view of the mountains from the porch of the House, the house was big enough for our family of 7, during the day we opened the windows and doors to let the breeze in. Mr Shelby the manager it’s an amazing gentlemen, always there to answer our questions, he invited us to his botanical garden and it was an amazing and learning experience. The house it’s close enough to town that you could walk to or take a tuk tuk for 1.50 to the beach. I would definitely recommend this house.

Jungle life

We rented the house for a week in mid March. The house was large. When we got off the ferry there was a gentleman holding a sign with our name on it. He did not speak english and we speak very little Spanish. This is the first time that I have rented a property that a property manager did not come to let us know the ins and outs of the house. The master bedroom bed is so hard that my husband and I would wake in the night hurting. The kitchen needs a good deep cleaning. The coffee pot did not work, we were going to buy one but could not find one on the island. The outside was nice and well kept and the pool was nice to relax in. The property is located in a nice quiet area. We did find a few tarantula in the house.

Home away from home

My three teenager children visited Utila and stayed at La Mayur from July 30, to August 7, 2016. La Mayur is absolutely beautiful with a wonderful view. We were very impressed by the house and the surroundings. La Mayur is located within walking distance of the town yet is so calm and peaceful, surrounded by lush greenery providing a wonderful ambiance. My children finished their diving course in Utila and got their PADI certification. They are looking forward to their next trip and want to stay at La Mayur. We all loved staying in La Mayur for all that it has to offer. The property and is well maintained, the landscaping is beautiful and the swimming pool is clean and well maintained in which my kids had a blast. La Mayur is perfect in every aspect and we were happy, relaxed and comfortable as if in our own home. Highly Recommend.

Great Location

If relaxation and tranquility are what you're looking for in your vacation to Utila then this is the perfect Location. The views from the balconies and deck is fantastic, a great spot to relax and enjoy your morning coffee. The location is far enough from town to be peaceful and quiet but close enough to walk to restaurants and shopping. The pool is perfect for relaxing and cooling off when the sun gets a little too hot, but if the beach is what you enjoy, it is just a 15 minute walk to the public beach or a short ride in a tuk-tuk taxi for about $1 per person. There were six adults in our group for our three-week stay. We rented a golf cart and explored the island, rented quads to go up Pumpkin Hill to enjoy the fabulous views from there. We took a tour to Water Cays for snorkeling and spent a day at Neptune snorkeling, swimming and just relaxing on the beach. We only wish we had found this treasure a little sooner so that we could have spent more time there. Would recommend anyone staying in Utila check out Neptunes. The locals are friendly and make you feel welcome and at home wherever you go. We got to know some of them quite well & we're sorry to say goodbye to them. The property manager, Shelby McNabb, was very friendly and accommodating and helped make our stay a pleasant one. We would definitely recommend this house to anyone wishing to visit Utila.

Great place. Mini-pool was fabulous for everyone in our party of 9 with infants, kids, teenagers and adults. About 10 min downhill walk to town and 20mins to public beach. Excellent quiet location. Recommend!

La Mayur was founded in 2012 by two intrepid global travelers from Canada, with an insatiable taste for adventure and who are committed to the conservation and preservation of Utila. Peacocks used to breed in Quiebra Piedra *Botanical Garden which is adjacent to La Mayur and the birds were a beautiful sight. Mayur in Sanskrit means “Peacock” whose exotic beauty captured our minds on our very first visit to Utila, hence the name La Mayur.
Wrapped in the cool embrace of Pumpkin Hill, lush vegetation of Quiebra Piedra, the Botanical Garden, and view of the Caribbean sea, the ambience that the cottage exudes is irresistibly appealing to every lover of Nature. As the daylight spills across your bed, awaken to a divers paradise or plan to make it a theme wedding destination.
La Mayur is a proud supporter of the local community.
