This 1920's Era Chateau is a 2-story, with 100-year-old charm. Character abounds with a gated & hedged entry leading you into an arched doorway. There are original hardwood floors & wood windows and lovely light fixtures. Inside of the home is beautiful craftsman wood staircase. The remodeled kitchen has wood butcher block counters, farmhouse sink, and stainless-steel stove/micro. There is a new LG washer/dryer. The large bedroom has a new organic bamboo queen size bed. There is a private courtyard with alfresco dining for 4 on the vintage French cafe set. Also an outdoor cafe set for 2 for coffee. Air conditioned for the hot summer days of Los Angeles. Located in an excellent part of Silver Lake in a quiet residential neighborhood above Sunset Blvd. Walking distance to cafes, restaurants, shopping, & farmers market. Silver Lake is a very artistic community featuring various architectural styles of homes surrounding a reservoir. Beautiful walking path around the lake.

Not recommended for a long stay
My wife and I booked a three month stay at the Chateau, and it ended up not working out. One important note that we were not aware of was that there are two units that share a courtyard rather than a truly private courtyard. We brought our dog, so this had been a big selling point for us, and we could not let her out off leash. The place is very small with lots of decorative objects, is rather dark, and was not conducive to working from home. There was also no gardening service, so the courtyard was pretty disheveled. It should also be noted that the washer/dryer is a combo, which took forever and didn't work very well, and there is also no recycling bin on the property. We asked if we could cancel a month early and were told we would only get our money back if they re-booked, but they only put it up for a full-month (with a limited starting date range), and it did not book. While we did not have a positive experience, I do think this listing could work well for a single person visiting the area, who wanted to prioritize location.
Loved this little hideaway! Parking was super convenient. It was quiet, yet close to shopping, parks, etc. The decor was lovely, and the bed was very comfortable. I have stayed in this host’s properties before and they don’t ever disappoint!
This house is so cute, warm and charming. The property it sets on is was great for our dog. I think he thought he was on his own hike. We would love to stay here again. It’s in a neighborhood that reminds us of our college days. We loved staying here.
This is a small and charming space with a bedroom, kitchen and living room to share. Decorated with Parisian flair by the owner, it is cozy and welcoming. Note that there are stairs to get to the door and stairs to get from the main floor to the kitchen, so this is not an accessible rental. Would definitely rent here again, the location in Silver Lake is terrific for local touristing, restaurants and shops. We did not know the wifi password, so were unable to access it.
We cherished every moment in the adorable petit chateau! I loved the inspiring decor. Especially relaxing on the patio in the sunken garden each morning. Beautiful neighborhood, delious meals at Ostrich Farm, Izakaya Osen. Close to Griffith observatory to watch sunset and see the Hollywood sign. This will be a wonderful memory for us!
A taste of old Los Angeles in a lovely corner of Silver Lake. Just a couple of blocks up the hill from Sunset Blvd but as quiet as the country. My second stay here. Hope to be back many times.
Perfect home for rest after a busy day of shopping and sight seeing. Great neighborhood for walking with many places to eat within a couple of blocks. The overall vibe was more San Francisco than LA. We loved every minute. Thank you for creating this beautiful oasis!
Ideal location for downtown LA and Hollywood. Well maintained and recommended.

Charming Chateau
The Chateau was impeccably clean, charming, and comfortable. Great location in Silver Lake. A bit hilly for walking, but an easy drive to everywhere we wanted to go. Parking was always available steps from the door. Dealing with Gisele was an absolute delight! She is gracious and welcoming and helped make our stay comfortable and stress-free. The Parisian ambiance at the Chateau was fun. By the time we left we’d found 41 Eiffel Towers! Would definitely stay there again and recommend it to family and friends.

Enchanting
We came for a week to help prepare for daughter’s wedding (a wonderful celebration) and found a charming, yes, enchanting Chateau. Host was marvelous and kindly helped us with an unexpected overnight guest (son.) Everything was lovely — a little hidden patio, well-equipped kitchen, very comfy bed, operatic birdsong in the morning. My favorite nicety: there was a tea kettle and teapot! We will be there again.

About the host
Hosted by Gisele Plouffe
Gisele and Guy are the owners of this property and bought it as a fixer. After restoring the interiors, they were ready for occupancy. We have lived in the Silver Lake area for over 15 years now and really enjoy it here. Gisele is a Los Angeles native and a local real estate agent, and Guy has been here over 25 years from Illinois, so that makes him a native as well. :)
Why they chose this property
This is our second VRBO rental and have had glowing reviews from our guests so far. We really enjoy it and always make sure the home is ready for our guests. Silver Lake is a very special place for us as well as Los Angeles in general. It is a wonderful place to live, and growing up here cannot imagine living anywhere else.
What makes this property unique
We love to own a piece of Los Angeles history. Built in 1920, we are sure if these walls could talk, we would have some very interesting story's of old Hollywood. As soon as we walked into this home, we knew it was the place for us. You will see while staying with us, just how special the setting and character are. From listening to the birds in the morning to the cathedral bells in the distance, it is a quiet hideaway in LA.
