About this property

Franklin-Mountain Retreat-Stunning View. Outdoor hot tub, clawfoot tubs & shower

Cozy and tastefully decorated mountain home, just a two hour drive from Atlanta.

This cabin is just minutes from hiking on the Appalachian and Bartram trails, with breathtaking southern views of the Blue Ridge Mountains in NC and GA.

This cabin features livable porches, a huge rear deck, two claw foot tubs for out door soaking, a hot tub that fits 4 adults and an outdoor shower. HOT TUB, CLAW FOOT TUBS AND OUTDOOR SHOWER ARE NOT AVAILABLE DURING WINTER MONTHS (FROM 11/1 TO 3/15). Nearby activities include hiking, antiquing, waterfalls, golf, paddling, swimming (in the new Macon County water park); dining, and entertainment at the Smokey Mountain Center for Performing Arts. For short day excursions visit Highlands, Dillsboro , Sylva, and Cashiers. The Great Smokey Mountain National Park is only 45 minutes away. Two new breweries in Franklin are so convenient after a hike, paddle or antiquing. Lazy Hiker and Currahee Brewing Company are both great choices. We suggest you try both!!!

The master bedroom features a king bed, and a child's day bed, with French doors that open to a screened in porch and view. The second bedroom has a queen bed, and the third loft bedroom, a full size bed.

There is a beautiful wood burning fire place in the family room, fully equipped kitchen, and large farm table in the dining room. The deck off of the living room has a dining table with 4 chairs (nice for enjoying the view).

Beautiful Mountain View!

What an awesome property! We loved the view, hot tub, fire pit & soaker tubs! If you’re looking for a remote getaway that is still easy to visit nearby towns, this is a perfect place to stay. We loved our day trips to Franklin, Sylva, Highlands, and Cashiers.

Peaceful getaway

Everything was as listed. The home was clean, beds were comfortable, hot tub worked as it should. This was a birthday/spring break getaway from the usual spots and I enjoyed every moment of it. We didn't even turn the TV on our whole stay. Just enjoyed the views, hot tub, and done some cooking out. I was nervous about the gravel drive but my little Honda had no issues getting to the cabin. Will definitely be back!

Relaxing vacation

This cabin is exactly as described. We planned on a relaxing weekend, and got that with this property. Some better supplies would be appreciated, such as more towels and soap/shampoo. The outdoor shower is a nice touch. I am installing one at home thanks to my stay. Would stay here again.

Private & Serene Getaway!!!

This is an older, rustic, well kept, charming property with million dollar views. The outdoor shower, his and hers outdoor soaking tubs, and jetted hot tub offer unique, relaxing experiences with an awesome view! It has a well loved, homey and relaxing atmosphere. Nestled in the mountains with woods all around, it feels very quiet and serene. We highly recommend it and plan on returning this spring! Alan J. & Elizabeth K.

Amazing place...

We spent a long weekend at this beautiful place, enjoying the amazing and ever changing views. We spent all of our time outdoors enjoying the deck, hot tub, claw foot tubs (so nice!) and a cool view from the outdoor shower which had beautiful stacked rock. The home is clean, lots of room,

Oh My Gosh, the view !

We stayed a week at this cozy cabin outside of Otto, NC for the Christmas holiday. It was so quiet and relaxing - wish we could have stayed longer to explore the area. We still managed to do three hikes - Mud Creek Trail, Bartram Trail: Wallace Branch to William's Pulpit and Greenway Trail in Franklin. The cabin is equipped with everything you need - loved the decor. We met some friends for brunch at The Crown Restaurant in Brasstown on Saturday - they also serve dinner in the evening - highly recommend for a meal out. We prepared all the rest of our meals at the cabin. The beds were so comfortable - slept like a rock. The view from the deck was amazing - could spend hours looking at it. Thank you, Ed & Brenda, for sharing your lovely cabin with us. It was always be a fond memory.

Amenities were our favorite!

The stay at this cabin was such a unique experience for us! The serenity in the mountains from an outside tub bubblebath perspective was so nice and relaxing! The night skies were unbelievable! The house itself was a lot for two people but we loved it! The lower level has the feel of a lodge stay and the upper two floors were cozy like a cabin. We absolutely loved this experience especially using the outdoor amenities! Definitely recommend! We got up to the cabin in a 2019 Toyota Camry but I wouldn’t attempt at night for the first time traveling to the cabin! The cabin owners were beyond generous having everything you need throughout the house, kitchen included!

So much potential...

This is a lovely house in a lovely, secluded spot. I think in the Summer/Fall it is ideal. In Winter, there are pros and cons to the house. I'll start with the PROS: 1. Private (in the winter with no leaves though you can definitely still see the 3 houses next to you). 2. We saw deer 2 days we were there. 3. Stars for miles on a clear night. 4. THE VIEWS!!!!!! CONS: 1. You can't see from the pics but the master downstairs in basement has no shower or bath on that floor, just a half bath down a long and cold hallway. So you have to go upstairs to shower, which is weird for a master bedroom. 2. Cold basement because they don't have separate units. Makes upstairs too hot or downstairs too cold. 3. Very slow/low bandwidth wifi. When it's raining and winter and no hot tub, you rely on movies. The advertised apple tv and renewed wifi was a bust as the lag was so bad it wasn't worth watching. 4. Tiny kitchen. (though very well stocked!) And tiny kitchen garbage can the size of a bathroom can with nowhere to keep the garbage except in the tiny kitchen. Owner notes say don't put on porch or varmints get it but they don't provide any outdoor cans to store it. 5. I've never stayed in any rental that made you clean out the fireplace before you leave. 6. Due to heavy rains, the driveway stressed us out a bit for our non-4wd cars. We had to park one up on the road as we were worried the driveway would be too wet to get back up. 7. No outdoor tubs in winter. Seems like it would be smart to offer at additional fees (dewinterize/winterize) since this is a popular feature. I'd love to come back in Fall/Summer/Spring to experience the outdoors more.

Wonderful Anniversary Trip

We decided to book a last minute Anniversary trip and stumbled across this listing. We couldn't tell much about the interior from the photos that were on line at the time, but we booked any way because the amenities intrigued us. The trek up the mountain to the cabin can be intimidating or thrilling - you decide! Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised! The interior is way more beautiful than imagined- stunning tongue and groove wood work in the main room and vaulted ceiling, a cozy fireplace, and a well equipped kitchen, and breathtaking views! There is a cute loft bedroom on the top floor with a full private bath, and another room with a hall bath on the main floor. Downstairs on the lower floor, a half bath only, but if its warm enough, you can utilize the outside shower. The primary bedroom on this floor has a king bed with a comfy mattress and pillows, and there is also a twin bed if you have littles (we used the twin bed to put our open suitcases on) The hot tub was amazing and we spent every single night watching shooting stars. Had a great photo op with the soaking tubs, too! We saw bears, tons of deer and even turkeys, which added to the enjoyment. The views from the main deck are absolutely breathtaking and change every hour. Book it! You won't be sorry

On top of old Smokey.

We enjoyed everything about our stay and we definitely would come back. Be sure you write down accurate instructions or screenshot them or save the owners instructions on how to get to the house. You’ll loose signal and it’s hard to navigate your way to the home. With that being said that’s also part of the fun. You are the third house from the top of the mountain and it’s spectacular. We had a great family trip! As far as some of the other Wi-Fi comments we had enough to stream the Tampa Bay Lightning game six from my MacBook no problems there. Great location. Very close to highlands and cashiers amd other locations.

Perfect Getaway Spot!

Our stay was perfect and we'd happily come back again! My husband and I came here to relax and celebrate our 5 year anniversary. The cabin was clean, cozy, and quiet which was exactly what we were looking for! The weather was lovely during our stay so we spent most of our time enjoying the beautiful view outside whether in the hot tub or sitting on the deck chairs reading a book. Like other guests have said, pictures don't do the view justice, it really is quite spectacular. We'd absolutely recommend staying here if it's available!!

About the host

Host profile image
Our family purchased this property in 2008 for weekend escapes into nature and out of the city heat. We love to to entertain family and friends in our cabin, and continue to explore the area. Every season has its own special beauty and character and we take advantage of the region year round.

Why they chose this property

This property exemplifies the unique and rich biological diversity of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Just east of the cabin in a hollow is a pure stand of yellow poplar trees, thus the name 'Poplar Cove'. A path to the west of the cabin wanders through a rhododendron to more surprise views. Early morning brings turkeys, grazing deer, and song birds. Its naturalist's delight!

What makes this property unique

Proximity to Atlanta, quiet, and much cooler temps. The elevation (3200 feet), combined with the shade and cooling effect of tree leaves, results in an average 12 degree decrease in daytime temperatures.Four person Hot Tub with view of the mountains! All the outdoor living spaces - its almost like camping with all the comforts of home.Closeness to an abundance of hiking trails.
