Why they chose this property
When we retired from our positions teaching in the City University of New York, we wanted to live in a small, quiet town with good food, good bookstores, a variety of cultural events, and easy access to hiking trails. We also wanted to be able to go to NYC easily. New Paltz fit the bill perfectly. An hour-and-a-half bus trip takes us to Manhattan. Now we enjoy hiking, jogging, and birdwatching in the Mohonk Preserve and along the Walkill Rail Trail, eating breakfast at the Main Street Bistro and dinner at the Main Course and Gadaletto's seafood restaurant, browsing the shelves of Barner Books and Inquiring Minds, going to plays and dance performances at SUNY New Paltz and listening to music at the Unison Arts Center and Bard College. We like this house because of its convenient location--it's great to be able to walk to the supermarkets and downtown--and because it's like a house in the the countryside, even though it's close to town.
