About this property

Charming redwood cottage in private, friendly Association with 400 ft. beach...!

_______________________________________________________________________________

Welcome to Edgewood Escape!!

Our cottage was built in 1954 by Dawn's parents, Andy and Molly. They lived during the school year in Holland, and moved out to the cottage for the summers - idyllic, magical times for Dawn, her sister, Ronnie, and the many other kids and families who came to the lake shore together. In those days, the Association included only about 20 summer cottages; since then, cottages have been updated and expanded, and many people have built beautiful, year round homes, as well. The Association is privately maintained, is quiet and set away from the busyness of much of the city of Holland.

The cottage is made of redwood, and although it has a small footprint, it feels spacious and airy with its open design - the living and dining rooms are surrounded by windows, and cooling lake breezes flow through from the west. The cottage was built with a flat roof, but in the '90's, Andy had a peaked roof put on, which allowed us to put a furnace and a tankless water heater up in the new attic, opening up the living areas below. In 2019 we added AC for ultimate comfort during summer months. We have parking next to the cottage for a maximum of 3 cars; others may park out on Lake Shore Drive.

The cottage offers 2 bedrooms, with full beds, dressers and closets in each, as well as a Queen sized sofa bed in the living room, all with new, comfy, supportive mattresses. The bathroom has been completely renovated (small but lovely!), and the kitchen expanded; we have ceiling fans in the living room and bed rooms, as well as Wi-Fi, a smart, flat screen TV and a Blu-ray/DVD player all with surround sound. As small as the footprint is, we do not have laundry nor a dishwasher, but there are laundromats close by, if needed.

The Edgewood Beach Association is private, with its own stairway access down to the 400 ft. wide beach, available only for its residents and guests. The landing, overlooking our beach is less than 2 minutes’ walk from our door! The whole shoreline is available for beach walking, the lake bottom is sandy, the waves soothing and hypnotic...! There are many kayaks, SUP's, sailboats, etc. on the beach, however, these are privately owned and not available to guests. You are welcome to bring with you any such water 'toys' if you wish; many area shops offer such rentals, as well as offering bike rentals for a shoreline biking/hiking trail right along Lake Shore Drive. As this is an Association with many private homes, we require that Association rules be followed, including quiet after 10pm and before 9am (specific rules will be provided upon reservation).

Holland itself is filled with excellent restaurants, including Boatwerks; New Holland Brewery and other breweries; Coppercraft, a local distillery; lovely shops, music on the streets, great festivals, luscious blueberries, a large farmers market downtown, Hope College (with a wonderful summer repertory theater), and much, much more - only minutes away!

Edgewood Escape is so close, whether to Holland itself, to Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Chicago, Detroit, even Wisconsin (great ferries, across the lake...!), and yet feels a world away!

As this is our family cottage and home, please tell us a bit about yourself when you request a reservation so we know a little about whom we're inviting to be our guests - thanks so much!

Come and enjoy the beauties of the Lake Michigan shores, put your feet up and rest awhile.....!

Lots Of Rules

Had 11 guest over for 2 hours. Did not realize one parked scooter on lawn. Found out owner has camera in tree... passive agressive messages followed about their rules...when the only one we inadvertently broke was a 4th vehicle (scooter) parked on lawn...moved right away... Note... if you mess up the TV settings you will be charged $30...so we did not use...if you clog septic...you will be charge...so we did not use toilet...(just kidding) Great location to lake and cottage is comfortable......

Wonderful Cabin

My family and I had a great time at Edgewood Escape in Holland, Michigan. The home is located in a lovely private neighborhood and only a short walk to the beautiful beach. The home is very charming and comfortable with a lovely screened in porch and pretty garden. Located near wineries and blueberry picking and only a short drive to downtown Holland, Windmill Gardens and the Holland State Park beaches.

Quaint Redwood Antique Filled Cottage

Absolutely love, love loved this very unique step back in time antique cottage. A time when life was much simpler in a positive way as the cottage made us feel so at home & connected to the earth by its lovely gardens & the warmth of the subdivision itself being just one horse shoe shaped sub. Loved the screened in porch to bird watch & take in their lovely churps & washing themselves in the bird baths. Loved being 1 min. away from Lake MI & enjoying the seating of wooden benches on the beach just down the steps for awe inspiring sunsets nightly. Very clean & well stocked. Only had 1 Suggestion: Let people know to bring their own Queen sheets, pillow cases & towels as we were surprised when we pulled down our comforters that there were no sheets. Shower towels were our own Beach Towels & not sure if we missed to bring those items in the original listing or not? Highly recommend this place for an outstanding location to a beautiful beach.

Amazing and close to beach!

Adorable cottage super close to the beach. The beach is private and so nice for me and my twin 5 year olds to walk to and play. The cottage was super clean and fully stocked. We wanted for nothing. Great location not far from Dutch village and Windmill island. One of the best, easiest vacations we have had! I highly recommend it. :)

Beaching not Teaching

Impressed with this clean & cozy vintage cottage! The hosts were were very accommodating & quick with responses. The quiet location, beautiful landscaping & screened in front porch was just what a teacher needs after a challenging school year. Walking down to the private beach on Lake Michigan was just a few minutes from the property! Easy peasy! Downtown Holland had great shopping & restaurants. Holland public beach was beautiful and had one of the cleanest facilities & amenities I’ve been to.

Charming cottage

Great location and a very cozy cottage that made our trip extra enjoyable, considering we had bad luck with the weather. Wish we could have spent time on the screened porch and yard as they were lovely. Beach access was very close and down a steep set of stairs. Communication was excellent. Lots of great spots to sit and read.

Great getaway by the beach!

We greatly enjoyed our stay at this cabin, which is just a short walk to a lovely private neighborhood beach. The neighbors are friendly and welcoming. Beach chairs and cabin basics were provided for guest use, which was sincerely appreciated. Would happily return again!

Wonderful!

There were no surprises...the cottage was just as it was described and pictured. It was cozy and comfortable and everything we needed. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the front porch each morning as we started out our day. The location was great. It was just a short walk to the beach which was clean and private. The sunsets were beautiful. I hope to be back again! Thank you.

Great Michigan Cottage

This is a very well maintained quaint cottage. It had everything you needed for a nice stay. The yard is beautiful and the location is great. It is north of downtown Holland, everything is easy to get to yet you are tucked away in a beautiful little neighborhood association. Not the fault of the owners, but there is very little beach due unfortunately to the beach erosion. However, you can still go down steps to a small private beach by the cottage in the association. There are two other larger public beaches near by you can enjoy. (South is Tunnel Park and Holland State Park.) Recommended for a true Michigan cottage.

Moms & sons retreat

Perfect! Perfect! Perfect! We thoroughly enjoyed staying here and experiencing all that Holland had to offer. We loved walking to the beach (the beach chairs provided were fabulous). So many wonderful memories were made. We do recommend bringing or going to Walmart for life vests. Even though our boys are 14 and great swimmers, Michigan lake is very different from your average lakes. The currents can be rough! The boys didn’t even mind wearing them as long as they could boogie board. :) The cabin was a perfect place to relax after the beach or being in town. (Beds are comfortable too). Wish we could of stayed longer!!

Tranquil Beach Escape

The cottage was exactly what we were looking for and the location couldn’t be better. It will be hard going back to public beaches after being spoiled with the peaceful days by the water here. Walking to the beach is quick and we made sure to see every sunset. Our kids loved every minute and so did we. There are so many nearby nature spots worth checking out. Keppel Forest Preserve was only minutes away and was worth a visit. Our family hopes to return in the future.

Cozy cottage in a great location

I stayed recently with my husband, teen, and tween and really enjoyed the location of this cottage. The cottage had everything we needed and the private community beach was perfect for swimming and evening sunsets. We’d definitely stay at this location again when visiting Holland.
