About this property

3BR, 2BA Charming 1920s Lake Estate w hot tub & Beautiful Boat Dock. Sleeps 7

Bring your boat or enjoy the views from the land -- this gorgeous lake house has it all. Built from Cypress cut from the property, this house was home to the original settlers of the area. Fully remodeled in 2013, the 1920s charm is still present throughout. Decorated in Florida Nautical/Lodge style, the home feels comfortable and sophisticated all at the same time. There is a hot tub in the backyard available for your use with 24 hours advance notice so that we can get it ready for you. Hot tub fee is $15 per day.

The nearby Mission Inn boasts 3 beautiful restaurants, fantastic golf facilities, and a spa -- all of which is open to the public, as is a beautiful walking trail.

The house is fully furnished with a fully stocked kitchen. Three bedrooms include a master with a king bed and a master bath, and two additional bedrooms: one with a full-size bed and the other with a queen and a twin. These two bedrooms share the guest bath. The living room has a queen pull-out sofa for which linens are provided. We have a pack & play if you would like to use it (bring own crib sheet & blankets).

We do generally accept small and medium-size dogs with a nonrefundable pet fee of $200. The backyard is fenced and the front yard is not.

Our house is a wonderful place to bring children as there are peacocks that roam the neighborhood and lots of wildlife to be seen around the property. The Yalaha Bakery is in walking distance of the house and has live music on Saturdays and Sundaysfrom 11 to 2. The house is conveniently located just 10 minutes from grocery stores and restaurants.

Old Florida Charm
Overall stay was great. If you love the charm of an older home this is your place. The view in the front room, which has all the windows overlooking the lake, is magnificent. The hot tub is not in working order, and should not be included in the listing. Wifi was not reliable, maybe a spectrum issue? Be prepared to use a hotspot. We were not looking to be on the internet other than some required work. The owner was gracious to give us a later checkout and was responsive to our questions.

Hurricane Milton followed us to this nice cottage.
We evacuated here from Tampa Bay during Hurricane Milton….. Our hosts were gracious and caring, and we appreciated their hospitality during the hurricane. While we mostly sheltered from the storm, the area seems very congenial and we plan on returning at a later date.

There was no access to a boat dock on the property. Grill was not operational. The hot tub was not operational and it was dirty. The house could use a good scrubbing and updated furniture. The location was charming. We adored the peacocks!

Do Not Stay Here!
As with many public reviews, you can learn a lot from the negative ones. Read through negative reviews for this house and you will see a theme: bugs, dirt, dust, rust, and a lack of cleanliness. I wish I paid more attention to these before booking this house.Couches were dirty and dusty with a giant rip in one.Dead wasp next to the ant killer in kitchen. Food and greasy film on stove. Metal cabinets full of dirt and rust. Some looked more like a flea market than a house worthy of VRBO. Thick dirt and rust on bed frame. Dead ants between a glass shelf and the windowsill. To give perspective, I travel a lot and I’m great with Holiday Inn clean. I don’t need anything fancy and I don’t have unrealistic expectations. With that in mind, there is no way I could stay here. I ended up moving my family to a hotel. When I notified the owner, her response was that she called her cleaner who cleaned the house the day before and always takes pictures. Uh, ok. I’m not sure what it would have proven but we never saw the pictures. And it’s no consolation while in a dirty house. The owner told us to leave her alone and to contact VRBO. We did, but there isn’t much they can do.These owners know they don’t have to give you anything. In full disclosure, they did offer a 10% refund which is insulting.Good location. Easy check in. Artistic liberty with listing accuracy. Poor cleanliness. Communication with owner good until they decided we bothered them. Do yourself a favor and keep looking!

Great location. Could use some TLC
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Hosts were very responsive and helpful. Great guidance on local attractions. Quiet/Idyllic/beautiful location and neighborhood Wonderful for families with children, with many toys, games, and books. Overall needs some TLC: - Hot tub cover needs replacement as it has failed and tub wasn’t usable. Dirty with many leaves - Bar of hand soap or undiluted liquid soap would be welcome (liquid soap was diluted with 50% water and was quite thin) - MBR mattress is very elevated. We’re both in our late 60s and had difficulty. Our opinion is that If steps are required, it’s probably too high. - Check icemaker occasionally. When we arrived the spout was completely blocked with melted/refrozen ice. I was able to break up the ice and restore functionality. Appeared to be in this condition for a while as there was also a bag of purchased ice left in the freezer. -A Keurig would be nice as guests could bring or purchase pods. This would be more convenient and flexible than with the existing drip coffee maker. -Suggest adding contact paper to the kitchen drawers and cabinets as all were quite rusty. -sofa in living room has cracked and split upholstery. -Pre-stay guidance on parking would have been appreciated with address on different road than access. This was especially confusing on late night arrival with no clear driveway. -Keypad is faded and we had difficulty initially at night reading and using it. Keys need to be firmly pushed/held until each beeps.

Photos are somewhat misleading
This is the first time we have been dissatisfied with a VRBO rental. Owners need to address some cleanliness and safety issues. Hot tub was not used due to unattractive location. Kids liked the peacocks roaming the neighborhood. Sunset over the lake was pretty. Check in was easy.

Just what we needed!
This was a perfect house for our much needed getaway. Check-in was a breeze, hosts very friendly and reachable. There are 3 generously sized bedrooms, the master with a very high, very comfy queen sized bed (use the step stool to get on the bed, trust me!). One of the other bedrooms, where my mom stayed, has a full size bed which she said was very comfy as well. There is a third bedroom with both a full and a twin bed. The "Florida Room" overlooking the lake is where we spent the majority of our time. My mom uses a cane, and had no issues moving around the house. Fantastic views all day long and into the evening. The sunsets were spectacular! Also enjoyed the peacocks walking around, the white one in particular. (although they are quite loud when they are close to the house...) Neighbors were friendly, neighborhood is very walkable/runable. Plenty of items to use in the kitchen, lots of room to spread out. Didn't use the hot tub, but it looked lovely. Would definitely recommend to anyone (and I have!!) and we hope to stay here again.

Beautiful home, beautiful location
The hosts were wonderful and unbelievably accommodating. I’ve stayed in a ton of vacation rentals in America and abroad and this is the first one I have been 100% satisfied with. The home is a beautiful redone Florida classic, with a ton of cool original details especially the vintage kitchen cabinets. The bedrooms are cozy and the AC gets COLD which is amazing and was a point of potential concern for me given the heat. Again cannot stress how happy we were here. We were in town for a wedding at mission inn and this home was a perfect place to keep a bit of distance during a weird, socially distant year.

Can’t say enough about how beautiful this place was. The home is gorgeous...from the decorations to cleanliness it definitely earned 4 stars from us. The view is amazing. My husband & son took our boat & enjoyed getting out on the lake everyday to fish. Myself & daughters enjoyed sitting looking at the gorgeous view & evening walks admiring the peacocks. If you want a peaceful no tourist town vacation, this is your place ❤️ We will definitely be back!!

About the host

Hosted by Christina & Brad

Host profile image
We are Brad and Christina. We live most of the year in Orlando and with our six children and two golden retrievers.

Why they chose this property

This house was built in the 1920s and we bought in 2013 from the family that built it. It overlooks beautiful Lake Harris and the neighborhood is peaceful and tranquil. Often on Saturdays we walk to the Yalaha Country Bakery and get lunch and listen to live music. This home has been a weekend house for our family and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

What makes this property unique

The original owners of this home were the original settlers of this area and the home has a lot of character. We've furnished it to be cozy and inviting for our family. The views from the front room over Lake Harris are amazing and we hang out in the swing by the lake while the kids play on the beach in the afternoons.
