he space
Great for couples, business travelers, and families.

Here's the full scoop: Our neighborhood is quiet, picturesque, woodsy and charming. Our home is modern, clean, comfortable and spacious. You can walk to a private, neighborhood-only rocky beach in less than five minutes and contemplate the ocean surf. In 15 minutes you can walk (or drive in 3 minutes) to one of several beautiful state park beaches. Crescent Beach is wide, sandy and pretty, perfect for sunbathing and walking. At Kettle Cove, you can watch local lobstermen haul in their catch, while at Two Lights, you can take in the spectacular ocean views with rolling surf and rocky coastline.

We’re a 12 to 15-minute drive into downtown Portland, where you can explore Old Town and its diverse culinary scene, artistic community, historic waterfront, wonderful entertainment and fabulous shopping experiences.

Your private guest suite is located on the lower floor of our home (only 6 steps down!), with plenty of large windows looking into our wooded front yard. You might see deer nibbling on the branches, or a red fox strolling by.

Relax in your spacious “Paris Bedroom,” with a cozy and well-appointed curtained four-poster bed. Plenty of pillows, comforters and blankets make for a comfy night’s sleep. If you’re traveling as a couple, this is a romantic and secluded space for the two of you. You’ll find robes and slippers in the closet.

If you’re bringing your family, we can accommodate two kids in “Artie’s Room.” Here you’ll find a twin bed with pull-out trundle. Extra kids? We have several comfortable and sturdy air mattresses with loads of blankets and pillows.

Business traveler? There are several desks (one in the Paris Bedroom, and one in the Family Room) if you need to get some work done. Internet access included, of course!

If you need quiet time to paint, draw, or write, you’ll find the workspace and location perfect for inspiration and creativity. Maine is known for its artists, and we have several in the family! There are a number of artistic touches throughout the suite, and you’re welcome to use the deck and outdoor space to set up your easel and paint.

The fully-furnished Family Room area is large, bright and full of books, magazines, games, music CDs and a 42-inch TV with access to OnDemand, Netflix, and Amazon. There is a dining area with a table that seats 4 (or 6 if needed); a hutch filled with dishes, flatware and glasses; a bar cart with toaster and coffee maker; and electric kettle, microwave and mini-fridge for your convenience. We'll have a few things in the mini-fridge (milk and cream for coffee, several bottles of water and juice), but you're welcome to stock your own goodies there. We'll provide coffee and tea for your enjoyment.

The private bathroom is newly remodeled and features a large, spacious shower. It’s all yours - no sharing with anyone. No need to bring your hair dryer, flat iron or curling iron, because you’ll find them here. We provide the works, including towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap and body lotion from local purveyors. If you need any extras, just ask!

Our laundry area is also located on the lower level, in the utility room. It’s for family use, but if you need to do some laundry in a pinch, please ask and we can accommodate your needs.

In the summer, we provide beach towels, picnic basket, blankets, cooler, totes, backpack - anything you might need for a day’s outing. Beach passes are reasonably priced, but you’re welcome to borrow ours if we’re not using it.

We have cats (just mentioning, in case you have allergies), but they’ll stay with us. If you see any of them hanging around the back door, please don’t let them out!

There are tons to do in the area, in all seasons. Visit the Maine visitors' websites for a start (we can't link from this page but they're easy to find online).

And ask us. We’re happy to help plan out your visit.

Guest access
Deck, backyard. Parking in the driveway.

Interaction with guests
We live here year-round and work from home, so we’re usually around. If not on site, we’re available by text and/or phone. We’ll always try to meet and greet you at some point. However, we will respect your privacy and if you’re here to escape- retreat and be left alone, we will certainly honor that too.

A little bit about us: Sam is a native Mainer and Kathryn is a Canadian, from southern Ontario. Both of us lived in Arizona for a number of years before returning back East, where life is better. We found our perfect home after a three-year search, and are happy to help others discover why Maine is so special.

Sam is an alternative energy consultant, specializing in solar energy development. He loves to go out walking and exploring, and can direct you to interesting places on or off the beaten path. He also loves sailing and will be looking to crew this summer. He used to work in the seafood industry, so he can tell you what to look for and what to know if you go to the fish/lobster market.

Kathryn is a jewelry designer and writer. Her contemporary-style work can be found in several museum shops and galleries in Arizona and in Maine. She is happy to be learning the lingo of Maine (you CAN get theah from heah!), and thinks everyone here is so friendly. And it’s true!

Other things to note
You'll use a shared back entrance but will have your own private space just six steps down to the lower level. You can close your doors for complete privacy. The entire bedroom, family room, second bedroom and bathroom are completely private and all yours. No bathroom sharing!

Comfortable, clean, convenient, friendly

We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to others looking for a flexible lodging arrangement near beaches and Portland. It's difficult to tell from the photos, but there are two private sleeping areas, and a common area between the two bedrooms. Everything was thoughtfully arranged in the space, and the hosts are very kind and pleasant. They are on site and available, but not intrusive in any way. We appreciated the convenience of making our own breakfast and being able to store cold drinks. Nice, quiet residential neighborhood.

Great Little Place

This place was cute and clean. It was nice to have three beds in separate places to give my tweens some privacy from each other. The decor was eccentric but interesting-- it would be hard to have a toddler in the space though, as there are many things to break! We also thought the bathroom was very nice! Owners are great and attentive. Location is deep in the heart of a pretty but private neighborhood, relatively close to state parks with nice beaches and the Portland Head Light. There's a Keurig, microwave, toaster and small fridge but no real kitchen, so plan accordingly. Overall a great experience. Only thing missing is a kitchen!

Wonderful hosts and beautiful location

The property is as advertised. The neighborhood was very quiet and out towards the ocean. The location was easy to navigate and get into Portland for shopping and food. There were nice beaches and lighthouses very nearby. We watched a lobsterman work in Dyer’s cove and spent time picking up beach treasures there as well. The hosts are great here and are a wealth of information. The space was as advertised. There was space to eat a breakfast and lunch, or make lunches to take with if you wanted. The host left a nice welcome basket with some fruit and things which was super nice . This area was so much nicer than staying down by the wharf in one of the big hotels. If you want quiet, great people and a great location- this is the place. There was absolutely no problem that the unit didn’t have air conditioning. The windows let in the cool ocean air and you can hear the birds singing as well. This would be a great place to bike from or go running. Lots of suitable roads for that.

Lovely neighborhood

Loved our stay in Cape Elizabeth where we enjoyed short walks to beautiful beaches. Great location and vicinity to both Portland and Biddeford (our other stops). The hosts are fantastic and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. Loved all the personal touches in the unit.

Lovely Getaway in Cape Elizabeth

This was the perfect spot to see Cape Elizabeth and southern Maine. The location is in a beautiful suburb, surrounded by scenic beaches, and Portland was a short 10 or 15 minute drive. Sam and his wife were friendly, welcoming and happy to answer all of questions. The amenities were great, and had everything we needed for a traveling family (including 10 month infant). We highly recommend, and we would love to come back.

Peaceful Haven

This lower level apartment is both well-equipped and well-maintained. Well set off a pedestrian-friendly dead end road w/in moments of Cape Elizabeth's Fort Williams Park, beaches, and restaurants this accommodation offers a blend of privacy and easy accessibility to this seacoast area's many attractions. Visiting Portland w/in 15 minutes w/ out traveling on any major roads was a welcomed bonus! As the owner of a large vacation rental property business I regularly interact w/ hundreds of homeowners and can assure you that you will not find hosts more affable and accommodating than Kathryn and Sam.

Everything we needed and more!

Was expecting one queen and one twin with trundle but they have added a full bed in kid's room and moved the twin to a corner of large living/kitchen area so each of us had our own bed. There was bread, fruit, juice and coffee with fixings available but we had already planned to eat a big breakfast in town. Glad to meet our host/hostess face to face. Had we not a full itinerary and arrived late and slept in to recover some of the sleep we had been missing, would have loved to have visited more. Helpful tourist info on bulletin board and other literature available. We enjoyed our stay!

Great space and location!

Sam and Kathryn were great hosts. We had a basement 2 bed room apartment that was very comfortable and stocked with all we needed, plus some snacks, beach towels, etc. that was nice. Wonderful, quiet neighborhood with great access to beaches, state parks, and Portland. Great recommendations for all things, especially restaurants (hope you left them on the chalk board!). Able to use back deck, which also was nice. If we return to area, we'll stay with you again!

A quick in and out

We got in late, went to dinner, came back late woke up late and then left. We really didn’t have a whole lot of time to spend. Both hosts were very pleasant and gave us an excellent recommendation for dinner. The property is very spacious. It would’ve been perfect for a couple of children. I wish we had more time to spend there.

6 out of 5 stars!!! Maybe 7.

Superlative in every way. Friendly and attentive hosts. Clean and comfortable accommodations in a very nice neighborhood. They have thought of and provided all the little things needed to enjoy the area - but spray, umbrellas, beach towels, maps and guides and a completely stocked vanity in bathroom. Hosts are friendly and have great suggestions/guidance if you ask. Convenient to good eating choices and various kinds of waterfront. I won’t stay anywhere else when visiting Portland!!!

Lovely Cape Elizabeth

We spent two nights at this home and really enjoyed it. Perfect for a family of 4 adults. Sam and Kathryn were very helpful with suggestions for food and activities and provided so many amenities that went above and beyond. Cape Elizabeth was a great escape from spending time in touristy Portland and provided perfect walking distance to the beach and nearby ocean exploring. Lovely home, convenient location, helpful owners

This place has a hotel type refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot and plenty of dishes. We were expecting a larger frig, a sink in the kitchenette, a stovetop and basic cookware. Other than that we had everything we needed and the space was attractive and comfortable. Owners were welcoming, helpful and prompt with meeting our needs. Cape Elizabeth is a beautiful place and easily accessible to Portland and the coastline. We had a wonderful time.
