Nicer than photos, but has many security cams that weren't disclosed...

Very clean and lovely house; a pleasant surprise to find it was so much nicer-looking than photos in listing. Very clean, without a noticeable mildew problem as many other Volcano homes have. There is a ton of free firewood for use, kitchen is nice, and house is in a beautiful forest setting. It also has a great lanai that's secluded from street views in the back for enjoying the greenery. Kristilee was a responsive host and let us check-in early without extra cost :) However, we are very private and also have concerns about AI and how image databases are used and stored, so knocking off one star for the fact that the house has multiple security cameras that were not mentioned in the listing. We strongly prefer to know how our images are being recorded & used, and so usually don't rent places with cameras without understanding said info.

Quiet, pleasant stay in Volcano

Spring break travel with my husband and 3 of our children (15yo, 11yo, 7yo). Property is in a rainforest and has no central heat or air conditioning. - it is not needed. Extra blankets provided. Wood burning fireplace warmed things up. Firewood and fire starter was provided. Yes, there is a musty smell upon entry (remember you are in a rainforest and the house has no heat or AC). It didn't bother us. Appreciated spices and oil supply for cooking. Uses a tankless water heater. Had no problems with hot water. Kitchen cold tap water pressure was a little low but did not effect cooking, cleaning, drinking.

Short visit to Volcano with 6 adults

The location and accommodation are terrific for a visit to the park. The water system at the house is very slow and so bringing a supply of bottled water is a must. Getting hot water for cleaning and showers takes a long time and would have been frustrating on a longer stay. Also the TV in the master was a minor inconvenience as it would not function.

House with lush surroundings near Volcano NP

I know someone who had a horrible experience renting on the Big Island so I was glad this home is owner/represented by a large known realty company out in Big Island. That really reassured me. Location is great because it's very close to the entrance of Volcano NP. We thought the floorplan and decor was nice. The surrounding lush plants and trees made us think we were alone in the middle of a rainforest and we loved it!!! The home is located in a quiet neighborhood and all amenities were pretty good. I did read prior reviews of a musty smell, which we noticed, however that part of the island gets enough moisture and dampness (thus the lush foliage everywhere) that it's expected. We went in August so didn't have any issues with the night time temperatures, however, we did still use the fireplace because it was there and set a nice mood at nights. We also couldn't find any dishwashing tablets so we contacted the property manager and she returned our call within 5 minutes. I would rent this place again and definitely recommend it.

Secluded in greenery

The house is lovely and new and set in the greenery so you feel like you're completely private. Musty mildew smell is strong when you first come inside, but disappears after leaving the windows open for a few hours. GREAT location for the Nat'l Park and Eagle's Lighthouse Cafe, which has great food and better people. We'd definitely stay here again.

Stay in the Rainforest Close to Volcano NP

Pros: Close to NP; newer/modern home; secluded and quiet Cons: None really. Kindling for fire would be nice. Be aware you are staying in a wet area of the island that can get relatively cold. We had great weather and it still rained each day of our stay. We made the mistake of not firing up the fireplace until the third day. Once started, the fire warmed things up nicely and removed any dampness in the House. With the ceiling fans on it was very comfortable. Would highly recommend you do this during cooler weather. The house is on a one lane dirt and gravel road - but fine for cars if you take it slow.

Luxury in the jungle

We were pleasantly surprised to find this diamond in the rough VRBO amidst the lush rainforest of Hawaii. The unit was modern, clean, and well stocked. We did not have trouble finding the house and it was very easy to enter the unit with the instructions given. The beds were comfortable and we did not feel cold in the evenings as some reviewers mentioned in the past. The kitchen was well stocked and we had everything we needed. I would give this VRBO six stars if I could!

Amazing Volcano Home!!

Our stay here was amazing. We were maybe 6 minutes from the entrance to Volcano National Park. The house looks like it is from the pages of Homes and Gardens. It is so nicely appointed. The bathrooms are all gorgeous along with the gourmet kitchen. I can not say enough about how gorgeous it is! Pictures do not do it justice. If we ever come back to Volcano, this is where I want to stay.

Well appointed house - musty smell

The house is well appointed and comfortable. The location is rural but convenient to HVNP. There were a few issues - the guest bedrooms are only double beds - we were two couples traveling together. It would have been nice to have two rooms with queen beds. There was only one hair dryer that needed to be shared so that was a bit inconvenient. But our biggest issue was the smell. It was very musty smelling due to no air circulation, no heat or air conditioning. Because of the climate, the furniture and rugs feel damp. If the smell issue could be addressed, this would be a four star review.

Beautiful Home

This is a beautiful, newer home in Volcano, HI. There was more than enough room for our family of four, and the kitchen is adequately equipped for cooking, though there are many little eateries in the village. We would recommend investing in some logs from the local hardware store, as this area gets very damp from all of the rainfall, but a nice fire quickly dries the air in the home (and warms it for cooler nights).

Beautiful well-appointed home

We had a great visit in this very comfortable house. The area is a rain forest so the surroundings are beautiful--greenery on all sides--and the house is very private and quiet. The house and furnishings seem quite new and are very comfortable and attractive. We stayed here for six nights so we really appreciated the well-equipped kitchen and laundry facilities. The location is very convenient to Volcano village and to Volcano National Park. We would surely be happy to stay here again when visiting this area.

Great place. Very clean. Had all the amenities.

The setting was great. Loved getting up in the morning and making a fresh cup of coffee and look outside to see all the beautiful foliage and listen to the birds. The house itself was cleaner than any hotel I’ve stayed in. I would stay there again. Only negative was that it was a bit chilly. Unless I missed it, a folder with the eating establishments and things to do in the area would be a nice touch.

Beautiful house-so close to Volcanoes Park!

The house was very spacious and well supplied. We really appreciated the furnace as our stay was very rainy and cool at night. Ten minute drive to the Park. 40 minutes to Hilo. The owner was awesome and responded quickly to any inquiries. A sure thing!

Wonderfully appointed in private setting

We stayed here with our daughters, their husbands and our 1 yr-old granddaughter for 3 nights over Christmas. It was very quiet with only woods visible from all windows. The house has everything you need and beautifully appointed. Each of the many light switches had labels on them. Very thoughtful! Nice walking around the neighborhood and very close to the national park.

Beautiful house, well appointed, close to Volcanos National Park

We loved our stay here. The house is completely and newly renovated in a contemporary and tasteful design, has a good amount of space for our family of six, and has all the amenities and supplies a traveler could weigh for. It is nicely situated and feels as if you were staying in the middle of a rain forest: through all windows, you see trees and ferns. The house is five minutes away from the entrance to Volcanos National Park. There are a few shops and restaurants in town, but don't expect much.

Clean, spacious house conveniently located near Volcano National Park

This is a clean, spacious house, well equipped with everything one could want. It's in a somewhat secluded location, yet only a 5-10 min to the grocery store and Volcano National Park. The back lenai faces the rainforest, perfect for relaxing after a day at Volcano NP and waking up with the sounds of birds. The kitchen is well equipped and the open layout is nice for a family get together. We enjoyed our stay there with two kids under the age of 6 and the grandparents. Communication with the hosts was great, responding promptly. The only reason for the 4.5 and not 5 star is that the bathroom design is poor in that the condensation drips from the skylight, making for wet, slippery floors after a shower even with the exhaust fan running (solved by towels on the floor!). The house is also cold, and although there is a fire place and plenty of firewood provided, starter brick or kindling to help get the fire started quickly would have been nice.

Beautifully designed home in the perfect location for exploring Volcano.

Wonderful lanai in the back that looks into a secluded rainforest. Tile floors were very cold to walk on, especially when temperatures dip in the evening. Well-equipped kitchen and laundry was a plus.

Beautiful home in a fantastic location. Very easy to get to. Perfect location for visiting Volcano National Park and going to all the beaches in the southern part of the island. Beautiful new home

This home seems brand new and everything was in excellent condition. There was a strong, dank odor when entering the house, but it quickly dissipated once we opened windows and ran the ceiling fans. It is surrounded by rain forest and it was a treat to listen to the rain at night and wake up to the verdant greenery outside the windows. This home is conveniently located about one mile from the general store in Volcano and about 5 minutes from the national park. Note that there is no central heating or air conditioning. Just wood fireplace for heat, which we did not use. We would have liked to have had a gas grill to barbecue on and some information on where to buy groceries, good places to eat, etc. would have been helpful. Overall, a very nice 3 night stay.

It's a bit more remote, but otherwise comparable to other Volcano properties.

Clean, well laid out, pretty well equipped. We had friends for dinner and had them bring their own place settings, because this property only has six - the number of beds. Some places have more. The only specific problem we found was that the outside garage door control didn't work. Probably dead AA batteries, but we didn't have replacements. Please check.
