Worked for us but we are not very picky.

It is not in the best neighborhood and parking is not ideal. The kitchen was good and well equipped. There was no TV service so bring a Ruko if you want to watch anything other than CD's they have. The kids liked the foosball and the firepit was good. The plumbing pipes are exposed downstairs so whenever anyone flushed the comode upstairs it comes through pipes in the room downstairs and is loud. The downstairs bathroom and bed are actually in the large downstairs room and are separated by curton. You pay extra to use the canoe's and stand up board. The washer and dryer are in a building in the back of the house and are not available for you use. We had a person who got wet and I called and they did give me the code to get into the laundry room. For a rustic get away retreat it works.

Great for older kids and teens

This stay was a great three day getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We really enjoyed the cabin and overall it was great experience. Here are the pros and cons:Pros: plenty of room for our party of 5 Full suite in both up and down stairs Great views of the lake Direct access to lake Quiet and relaxing 2 floating decks A lot of boats to rent Fire pit Grills Fully loaded back yard with life jackets, outdoor toys, hammocks, firewood, fishing poles, towels All linens were clean and provided All paper goods provided House was cleaned before arrival Easy check in and out Fun, funky decor Good WiFi Lots of indoor games Very responsive host Dog friendly, made our dog feel welcome Cons: Boats are not provided with the booking, they must be rented House was clean but not deep clean( we found items and food from other guest under furniture Outdoor areas are very cluttered There are a lot of tripping hazards inside and outside Upstairs porch railing is very wide and a small child or dog could easily fall Neighbors dogs barked at us a lot Upstairs bathtub cracked and needs replacing. Upstairs bathroom plumbing is placed above downstairs bed. My teens loved this place and already want to return.

Great cabin and location

My friend and I needed a base camp for a fishing trip on the Trinity River and a nice place to cook a nice dinner and relax at the end of the day. We were within 10 to 30 minutes of all the boat launches where we meet our guides, and came back to a well equipped kitchen and charcoal grill to prepare a nice fresh fish dinner. We’d sit on the dock dunking worms to end each evening. We will be back!

Great hidden getaway

My wife and absolutely loved this location. This was one of the best places we’ve vacationed at and I would go back in a second. The house is wonderful and right up against the lake. It’s well covered by trees and has everything you need to enjoy a quick getaway. The hosts were wonderful and very responsive. This is a great place and I look forward to going back.

Perfect family getaway

Quiet neighborhood and backyard lake access made this a great getaway for the whole family. A lot of small touches that gave us plenty to do during a rainy day, and access to kayaks and a paddleboat for the rest of the time. It's a great lake with beautiful scenery, a great house with lots to do, and a definite "let's go again" from everyone.

Wonderful family time in a peaceful location

My family enjoyed four nights at this home in mid-March and enjoyed every moment. The owners are wonderful, extremely thoughtful and go the extra mile for their guests to feel comfortable and welcome. Our family enjoyed HOURS on the lake in all the boats available. The lake is very small, quiet and peaceful. My husband and kids also spent so much time fishing and were very successful. I loved spending time reading in the lounge chairs on the dock. There is so much to do in the house and opportunities to have fun together. The beds in the house are super comfortable, I wish I could have brought the downstairs bed home with me!

No doubt I've forgotten items, shoot I'm not even sure i saw it all. Add to that, the hosts are so thoughtful. When symmer gets her, I'll be going back!

Wonderful Father's Day Weekend Getaway

Our small family and pups loved The Lake House Retreat (we rented both suites). The house is well-stocked and the beds were so comfortable. It rained for part of our stay, but we enjoyed as much time as we could on the lake. We especially enjoyed the kayaks and paddleboards. The property has many included amenities like fishing poles, grills, a fire pit, multiple hammocks and outdoor seating options. The owners were very responsive and answered my many questions. We really enjoyed our time on this peaceful lake and are already planning our next visit.

Great Getaway!

Our crew of 4 adults, 2 teens and 2 dogs had a wonderful stay! Even though the weather was colder and wetter than expected, we were able to spend time on the water in kayaks, canoe, pedal boat and paddle boards. We also enjoyed the many outdoor areas on the property, including the comfy lounge chairs on the dock (great spot to read and watch a storm come in). Inside, there was plenty of room to find a quiet corner to read, a well stocked kitchen for cooking, and good space to eat, and play cards and dominoes all together. We also found lots to do nearby including Trade Days in Livingston, a beautiful hike on Beaver Slide Trail (part of the Big Thicket National Preserve), a trip to Livingston Lake State Park and delicious BBQ at Florida's. These were all within about 20 minutes of the lakehouse. The hosts were very pleasant and super quick to respond to any questions.

Lovely Lake House Retreat

Highly recommend. Description of home and property is exactly as it was stated. Our family throughly enjoyed our stay. We were able to make memories fishing, swimming and had lots of laughs. We all got to learn how to paddle board. My daughter and I also learned how to use the kayaks. My son and husband were already pros. We also used the paddle boat, very fun. We saw wildlife creatures up close. My husband named the Opossum George. We did see a water moccasin crossing the steps by the bbq pit. We made friends with the neighborhood dog, she was sweet and very friendly. Our two little dogs liked her too. If you want a relaxing time away from life, unwind here. Thank you again Richard and Carol for making your lake house feel like home. Beds were so comfortable to sleep in too!!!

Relaxing and refreshing

My family of four and my mother enjoyed our time here the week between Christmas and New year’s. The setting is peaceful and beautiful. So many fun little seating areas to enjoy time. But we found the weather to be great and spent most of our time on the dock visiting, reading, playing with the neighbor’s puppies, relaxing. We kayaked and enjoyed the paddle boat. I bet summer would be great here! The hammocks were nice. The home had all we need. Carol was so responsive and helpful and supportive. It made for a nice stay. We played Foosball, Pac-Man and galactica, games, cards, watched some movies or games. There are also darts inside (magnetic) and outside. So many extras here! We had all of our meals in. We did enjoy some time antiquing in Livingston and the nearby Dollar General the opposite way came in handy. The beds were comfy. Heat kept up with the cold nights. Had all the towels and bedding and pillows we needed. Kitchens well-appointed. The house is on a hillside and there are stairs in the house as well as down to the lake. Keep that in mind before booking if that would be a problem for you or your guests. Great private lake. A great getaway! Thanks, Carol!

Comfortable

Overall experience at the Lakehouse retreat was pleasant. While it wasn’t perfect my family would return. We did have a few suggestions that would have made the stay even better. The grounds with my pets were lack luster. Too many spider webs “everywhere” as if they’d never had been cleaned. There was no Landscaping done which was frustrating because we literally had to pick up poop, clean and wash off chairs due to spider webs etc. The layer of leaves on the yard caused me concern of ticks for dogs. We u set stand leaves fall but again knowing we were staying would have been nice to have been cleaned up. Equipment in the closet was hard to get to again as if no one had touched it in months. We wanted to spend time outside which is what we booked this. The paddle board was falling apart as far as the paint and liner on the board. I loved using it either way because we made the best of it. Inside the accommodations were good. Downstairs it was a bit unnerving to hear the pipes every time someone used tue bathroom. The wifi and TV never worked. We could never log into our apps or watch TV. My son loved foosball and the arcade games. The kitchen downstairs were accommodating being right next to patio. We had all we need to cook and the temperature in the room was good once we figured out the AC. All the tape markings were rubbed off so it was hard to know what it all meant. The add’l accommodations were unfortunate. There was a beautiful hammock with no instructions how to use it or put it up. The Matt on the floor for addl slewing were very uncomfortable. My son ended up sleeping on the little couch. Upstairs the accommodations were good. My family enjoyed the space. The main issue was watching shows or football games. We had hoped to watch 2 Mai games and it kept freezing or going out. We could not log into our apps. Which caused issues for the family. With how much we rely on technology the devices on the wifi slowed it down extremely. So overall we had a good stay out hope is the feedback provided could help improve the next visitor and possibly us in the future. Thank you for sharing your home.
