About this property

A Fishermen's Dream!

Our home is a 4 bedroom 3 bath. It has three levels, the main level has two master suites and sleeps 5. The bottom level has two bedrooms and sleeps 4.
Although our home is not right on the beach it is perhaps the only rental property in La Ribera where you are walking distance to the beach as well as to all the amenities offered in town. Our location in town also provides spectaclular views, not only of the beach, but also the surrounding desert and mountains. The best of all that La Ribera has to offer!
The main living area separates the two master suites and has a wall of windows that open completely to the deck for premium outdoor/indoor access.
One master suite has the luxury of a soaking tub with a view, and each bedroom opens onto the main deck.
There is a fully equipped kitchen on the main level, and a rooftop kitchen with a premium BBQ and dining table set up for six people. There is also a lower patio with a small table and chairs available. Lounge chairs are available to place in your favorite spot.
We have a 42 in flat screen set up with Blue-ray player, Ipod ready stereos for in home entertainment. Internet is available at no charge. Phone is available for local calls only, and the area has moderate cell phone signal.
For outdoor fun there is access to a kayak, a SUP, 2 ATVs (2007 Polaris 700 and 2004 Yamaha 450 add'l charge please ask), beach chairs and toys, horse shoes, and bocce ball.
La Ribera and the surrounding East cape are a A FISHERMAN'S DREAM! La Ribera is a small Mexican town located mid way between Cabo San Lucas and La Paz on the Baja Penisula. This area is often refered to as the Eastcape. The town is the home of the up and coming Marina Cabo Riviera, and provides plenty of opportunity to catch abundant fish in the Sea of Cortez. Rent a panga from the beach or travel to nearby Los Barrilles to fish on a larger sport fishing vessel. Catch marlin, tuna, rooster fish and an abundance of other species either in shore or in the open waters of the Sea of Cortez.
We are also located close to the world famous Cabo Pulmo dive location. This is a protected dive site offering you plenty of snorkelling or diving options. Our area is also know for kite boarding and sailboarding.
Beaches are plentiful if your idea is to relax in the sun, walk, look for shells and explore.
There are plenty of day trips as well if you want to get out and about a bit. Los Barrilles is a bigger town and has shopping, dining, golfing and spa opportunities. Or for even more excitement travel to Cabo San Lucas, La Paz or Todos Santos for an extended day trip.
Although this may seem like a sleepy Mexican town you will find plenty to do, or best of all be able to tune out and do nothing at all, just relax!

A wonderful winter retreat from the cold

It was a very wonderful experience, being able to wake up everyday and see the water. The roof top was an extra bonus because we were able to watch the sunrise and the sunset. The weather was great ever though it was windy because we left the freezing weather behind.

Fisherman's Dream is an excellent choice

A really nice, comfortable house that is clearly, part of the community. Easy access to beaches, restaurants, groceries and more. The caretaker, Ulises, is a real gem and makes you feel very well looked after. Beautiful beach views with ocean sunrises and mountain sunsets. The roof-top patio with BBQ is a real bonus as well as the beautifully maintained xeriscaped yard which is fully fenced and gated for security. Local folks are very friendly, happy, and fun to visit with, despite varying language barriers. La Ribera is simply a very friendly town and I can only hope it remains that way with the big money from the outside that is at work there. A few recommendations I would make are: RESTAURANTS - "Providencia" and the "Mariscos Vianey" taqueria on the Camino Este highway, both in La Ribera. DAY TRIPS - 1.) Town of El Triunfo. Visit the museum and eat at the bakery / restaurant. 2.) Santa Rita Hot Springs. 3.) Cascada sol de Mayo. 4.) Cabo Pulmo marine Nat'l. Park Communications with Connie have been quick and easy, a pleasure to do business with and I would definitely recommend this accomodation.

Relaxing stay in La Ribera

Plenty of furnished space indoors and out. We managed without vehicle rental for the month, happy to explore on foot, a lot of the time on sandy streets. Sourced our groceries, meat, fish, fruit and veg locally and cooked 'at home' most of the time. A few good restaurants and taco bars 10-20 minutes walk away, street lights at night just about adequate in the dark. The 'Blue Flag' designation beach is an easy walk down the hill, (passing a delightful bakery), some days swimming possible, others, the red flag was flying. Quite a bit of construction happening as a new resort area and marina are being developed north along the beach. Communication with the owners was very easy and the caretaker Ulises met us on arrival to show us around, he also connected us with a taxi service based in Los Barriles which we used for trips further afield and also back to the airport. It was useful as they were familiar with the location of the house (known as Casa Pifer to them). All in all a wonderful month of relaxation in a friendly, small Mexican town that is worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist area further south.

Fisherman Getaway

This was a perfect spot for our annual fishing trip, 4 guys fit comfortably. Kitchen was great and view from the roof top is amazing. No major issues with getting access to the property or during the stay. Beds are comfy and clean. Definitely looking forward to staying here again for our next adventure.

Didn't want to leave this wonderful place!!!

My 11 year old daughter and I had a month long stay here and both wish we never had to leave! What a perfect home especially if you enjoy a beautiful yard full of solitude. The home had everything and more we needed, the views were something to get lost in. I spent many hours in the rocking chair on the patio admiring the sea or playing bocci in the yard with my daughter. La Ribera was quaint, friendly people and didn't have to leave once to find anything. La Ribera is small but you can easily find anything you might need. Alot of authenticity too. The hosts were wonderful, responsive and very accommodating. The home was very clean and comfortable. I can't wait to go back again and again. One of our favorite vacay homes by far!!!

Beautiful beach views while relaxing on the balcony

Our family loved the spaciousness of the home, the beach to themselves, and evenings on the rooftop deck listening to music with a drink. Connie and Jerry were communicative and the caretaker was super helpful in getting us hooked up with rides to Cabo. Thank you!

Beauty, Comfort, Convenience

This is a beautiful and well appointed home with all the amenities our family of 6 adults needed to have a wonderful stay in the charming community of La Ribera. The home and landscaping are even more beautiful in person than online. The hosts were gracious, helpful with important local information and responsive. The roof top deck is so fun and beautiful and all the guest rooms have access to outside patios/decks. The house is has a great location - close to the beach and minutes from the mercado. We like to cook and the kitchen was well-appointed and had everything we needed (and more) to enjoy cooking our catch after a day of fishing. If you want to stay in La Ribera, we highly recommend!

Great Location, Accommodating Ownership

Our group needed lodging for a two-week stay on business when our booking fell through at the very last minute. Connie truly came through for us on short notice by working with us to get our crew scheduled in to this beautiful vacation rental, which worked out better than we had hoped. The rental is located right in the middle of La Ribera, perfect for our access to the jobsite and well within walking distance of all the accoutrements in and around town. The rental itself is wonderful; spacious, clean, and comfortable, it was everything our crew needed and more. I cannot speak highly enough of Connie and the rental, and strongly recommend this location to anyone looking to vacation in La Ribera and the greater Cabo area.

la ribera

while there was a lot more forms, instructions, hoops, and extra fees than i’ve encountered in vacation rentals before the host was responsive and the caretaker very friendly and helpful. the house is in need of a deep clean and all dish and cookware needed washed before use but there was an ample amount of necessities for cooking. screens on the sliding doors would be helpful to allow fresh air in and keep bugs out unless you want to live in a/c. a lot of construction in the area so be prepared for the sounds of heavy equipment. comes with growth of area so get out to the beautiful sea of cortez. the palapas at playa la ribera are top notch!

A great home base in an interesting area

I give location and neighborhood 3 stars only because the town itself isn't very developed (although after visiting other parts of Baja I came to appreciate La Ribera's non-touristy vibe). The house was great and Connie and Jerry were very helpful. La Ribera is a great jumping off point to Cabo Pulmo and Santa Rita Hot Springs. I would stay there again.

Everything you need, great communication, beautiful spot.

Connie was amazing to deal with. We stayed a month and she arranged for extra cleaning and for us and checked in regularly. Her man in Mexico, Ulises, is a great help and speaks English. When the internet wasn’t working he brought a guy on Sunday to replace the router. The house is comfortable and the top deck has amazing views. The grill is awesome. It was very comfortable for four people. When we had eight at one point the living area felt a bit cramped but we managed fine. La Ribera is a sleepy town and totally authentic Mexican with all that includes: cows and horses in the streets, dogs, roosters etc. But is has several stores for everything you need, three good restaurants, and it’s a great jumping off point for exploring the East Cape. The beach is a blue flag beach and the locals take real pride in maintaining it. Swimming was fun and safe. Would definitely stay again if we were ever back in La Ribera.

Great deal on a nice place off the beaten tourist track.

We were really happy overall with the house and the location which will probably change once the new resort is completed in town. The house was great for our big group of 9, although we did not know that the two rooms downstairs were off the garage, and you had to go outside to get to them, but that was not really an issue for us. We did not spend enough time on the roof with a great view, but we did see humpback whales breaching right from the balcony and roof. One thing the house could use is a few more drinking glasses, but we used margarita glasses when we needed. The dishwasher really made the house stink, which happens when they are not used often, so we washed by hand after that. The neighborhood felt very safe and authentically Mexican at the same time and we grew to love the town. We recommend staying here!

Great Winter Break ...

We (4 adults and three young adults) stayed 8 days at La Ribera over Winter Break, and we had a wonderful time. The house was very nice; clean, comfortable, roomy, and with ocean views. It was supplied with pretty much anything you might need. The two downstairs bedrooms are somewhat isolated (only accessible via outside stairs), which was fine for us, but maybe not ideal if young children would need to use those bedrooms. I loved the quick and clear communication with the owners. We were welcomed by the caretaker, who also checked on us one more time, to make sure everything was fine. La Ribera is a quiet, small town close to great snorkeling at the Cabo Pulmo National Park. It would take us about 35-40 minutes each way, in a small rental car, to drive to Cabo Pulmo (faster with a 4x4). Very much worth the trip, every time we went. After going out on a snorkel charter, the snorkeling on your own is great at Playa Arbolitos. You can hike out further south along the shore from there as well. We also enjoyed going to the waterfall at Rancho de Mayo near Santiago. If you want windsurfing, kite flying, or more of a tourist atmosphere, Los Barriles (further north from La Ribera) has those kinds of things, and is easily reached from La Ribera. Getting to La Ribera from Cabo San Lucas International Airport was super easy (straight north on highway 1). It took us about 45 minutes during daylight; slower during night time (cows on road at times). However, La Ribera is a world apart from Cabo San Lucas, as it is so quiet and undeveloped. There is a marina, hotel, and golf course under development in La Ribera though, which might change the character of the town a bit in the near future.

Great Base, Great House, Helpful Host

Campo de Pescado worked like a treat - a nice base for our grown family to explore the East Cape region. Connie was a delight to work with - responsive and helpful. The house suited us to the proverbial "T": safe, comfortable and nicely laid out - the water, gas, electricity (and yes Internet) all worked well. Having lived in Mexico for a number of years (near the D.F.), we really liked the small town appeal of La Ribera and were pleasantly surprised by how quiet the town was. There is a nice supermarket towards the center of town and a functional ATM near the church. The evening sunsets from the top barbecue area were a definite highlight and the nearby beach made for pleasant (though when we were there - often - windy) walks.

About the host

Hosted by Connie Pifer

Host profile image
We are the Pifers - Jerry, Connie, Josef and Mari. We live and work in Oregon where we owned small grocery stores and a pizza parlor called CG Market and Reel Sportsmen Pizza. Jerry is also a fishing guide and runs guide trips on our boat 'Reelly Addicted' for halibut, tuna, and salmon out of Winchester Bay, Oregon. We built our Mexico home in 2010 as a family retreat and a future retirement home. We are excited to share our little piece of Mexico with you.

Why they chose this property

We are fishing fools, and fell in love with the area because you can catch big fish with out having to go way off shore. We also love this area because it is truly Mexico we try each time we visit to immerse ourselves further into the Mexican culture. This is also such a great place for the kids, waves are calm, town is safe, and people are friendly.

What makes this property unique

The most unique benefit is that La Ribera is still a Mexican village - think Cabo thirty years ago. A great place to escape the hustle and bustle of it all.
