HARRISON’S HIDEAWAY - A Little Piece of Heaven on Earth!!
HARRISON'S HIDEAWAY is your family friendly home away from home. Although the cabin itself is not on the water our private lakefront property is just a 2 minute walk down a mulched path through the woods. Our goal is to make your stay with us a memorable experience you'll want to repeat year after year. No matter what the season you'll love spending time enjoying the beauty of nature that surrounds you while being only minutes away from activities that are sure to please everyone. HH is mid way between downtown Traverse City and Suttons Bay/Leland.
HARRISON'S HIDEAWAY was established to honor the memory of our 5 year old grandson, Harrison James Mack, who passed away in 2011 while waiting for a heart transplant. A percentage of the rental income from HARRISON'S HIDEAWAY will be put into a special fund to support a charitable organization in his memory.

This is a spectacularly beautiful property that I cannot recommend highly enough for families. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, we felt right at home. The manager was friendly and helpful and even baked us a loaf of incredible bread which my children immediately devoured.
Beautiful cottage furnished with all that we needed for our stay. Loved meeting Mary in person as we checked in and the fresh loaf of bread was a nice surprise! We plan to return.
Harrison’s hideaway was the perfect place for our family. Mary Lee and her husband have a beautiful property and the homemade bread was delicious!
10/10 would comeback and recommend.
We had the best time at this property - it was very relaxing to hang out in the large yard or home and to walk down to the nearby dock and enjoy the chairs and kayaks there. Our family of four can't wait to come back!
We loved our stay at Harrison's Hideaway. It is close to Lake Leelanau and has water access. It was very clean. We loved the loft which was perfect for our kids. This home was peaceful and close to our family. Mary Lee is extremely responsive. Looking forward to coming back again!
The location, property, and the home itself were all wonderful. This is a pretty idyllic spot. The home is simple but very comfortable and Mary Lee was great! We made good use of the fire pit and loved Farm Club just a couple miles away. This was our first time in the area and loved checking out all the bakeries, beaches, and quaint little towns. There's a paved trail less than a mile away that goes all the way to Sutton's Bay. Great for riding, running or walking.
Our family had a wonderful time. It is a very quiet and private space. The very short walk to the dock (about 1-2 minutes) was no trouble at all. Mary Lee is an excellent host.
This was our first experience with VRBO and we couldn’t have been more delighted. We felt so welcomed and comfortable - it was more like we were staying in a friend’s or family member’s home than a stranger’s house. We had every accommodation we needed and more (like a luxurious waterfall shower and a freshly baked loaf of bread!). This was an amazing experience and I would highly recommend this property to anyone - especially families with children. We truly felt like part of the family.
We had such an amazing time here! Great central location where we could explore a different town or activity each day within just a short drive. But also loved the access to Lake Leelanau with the Kayaks - perfect for all of us, including the kids to learn how to kayak solo. Also easy to hop onto the Leelanau Trail just up the road for bike riding, which was beautiful at sunset. The house was great, bigger than expected, very clean and very comfortable. Will definitely be back, the host was very kind and accommodating.
We had a wonderful vacation at Harrison’s Hideaway! The property is beautiful! The cabin was clean and equipped with everything you need. Mary Lee welcomed us with a freshly baked bread (yummy!), and showed us around, including the dock on the lake just a minute away through the path in the forest. We biked the Leelanau trail, minutes away from the property, and visited Leland, Northport, Sutton’s Bay, Leelanau State park and Traverse city. We had a wonderful time! I would highly recommend staying here!
We really enjoyed our stay at this property. Comfortable bed, nice shower, remote controlled gas fireplace, newer appliances. Mary Lee was a great host, even bringing us a loaf of her fresh baked bread. The house was the perfect size for my wife and I. We had a fire outside most evenings. They had plenty of firewood and fire starters. Taking the path down to the lake was fun. Sitting on the dock in morning with our coffee or in the evening with a bottle of wine for sunset was great. We loved the surrounding property and the location. Easy to get to the wineries, Sutton's bay, Leland, lake Michigan, hiking/biking trails, and restaurants.
Harrison Hideaway was the perfect place for our Fall Break. The owner, Mary, was an incredibly gracious and welcoming hostess. She greeted us at the property with warm homemade bread and gave us a tour. The Hideaway had everything we wanted - enough space for the 5 of us, a well stocked fire pit, kitchen and all the appliances, and cozy living room to wind down from a day around the area. The Hideaway is just steps from the Lake with kayaks which was perfect for my wife to escape with no one else on the water. It's location is near a hike/bike trail spur, surrounded by farms, a short drive from Traverse City. Basically anywhere around the Sleeping Bear area was within a short drive. Even after leaving, my daughter forgot her earrings and the owner was so considerate to mail them back to us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend the Hideaway to anyone wanting an autumn recharge!
Lovely cabin, great location with proximity to lots of great small towns around Traverse City
We had a fantastic time with our 4 year old and 2 year old at Harrison's Hideaway. Host Mary Lee welcomed us with fresh bread that she baked and that set the tone for a cozy end-of-summer week in gorgeous Lake Leelanau. As indicated the lake is a short walk away through some woods which is actually ideal for families with small kids like ours. We loved sitting on the dock and using the available kayaks, and the kids loved playing in the shallow sandy parts of the water. We've been going to Leelanau County for years, and the location of Harrison's Hideaway is fantastic - 10 minutes to Suttons Bay and Traverse City, and about 20 minutes to Leland. You have multiple grocery store, restaurant, and local produce options that are very short scenic drives away. Mary Lee had excellent local recommendations as well. Don't let the lack of washer/dryer scare you. It took us about an hour to both wash and dry our clothes in the large commercial machines at the laundromat in Suttons Bay. You can use that time like we did at the playground on the beach or just walk around town. Thanks Mary Lee for a great week and we hope to stay again at Harrison's Hideaway!
We had a great time! The home was very clean and had absolutely everything we needed. It was in a great location to do various things in the area. We hope to be back! Mary Lee was a great host, and really loves having guests!
I was pleasantly surprised with everything about Harrison's Hideaway from cleanliness, to amenities, to location. Every was quality and we were more then comfortable. Super close to downtown Traverse, and close to Sleeping Bear shores. The host was super nice and helpful. I highly recommend. : )
We came up north for the weekend and had a wonderful comfortable time at Harrison’s hideaway. Great home, easy location and nearby great food and local activities. We will come again! Thank you, Mary Lee!
Loved this place and will be back. Access to lake, outdoor fire pit, short distance to bike path. For location outside of town, hard to beat. Hosts were great.
The house was immaculate and super clean. Mary does a really great job as a host and makes you feel like its your home away from home. The location is perfect for all your Traverse City needs and site seeing. I would highly recommend the property for anyone visiting the TC area.
Just returned home from a week at the lake and already miss it. The house and property are lovely and just as advertised. Mary Lee and her family were very welcoming and made us feel at home. It was the perfect place for our vacation.
This was the perfect place for my family to unwind and start our vacation! Mary Lee was very gracious and welcomed us like family. Beautiful property, a quick walk through the woods will lead you to the lake and the dock. A great location if you’re wanting to explore the area.
We loved our week at Harrison’s Hideaway. The place was very clean and included all of the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. Mary Lee was a delightful host and provided homemade bread and real butter....a great beginning to our trip. We have vacationed in the Traverse City area for many years and this place was really in a great location, close to downtown Traverse City as well as all of the charming towns of Leelanau County. Thank you for a great stay Mary Lee!!
Harrison’s Hideaway was a fantastic place to stay for our trip to Traverse City and the surrounding area. Less than 15 min to the city, 30 minutes to most of the Mission Peninsula, and under an hour to most outdoor locales and smaller towns.
The cabin was clean with nice amenities. Lake Leelenau is a short walk, and an outdoor fire pit made for an enjoyable evening retreat. Mary Lee was extremely helpful and friendly, making sure we had a pleasant stay.
Highly recommended!
This cottage was well appointed and cozy. Mary Lee thought of everything, and she was the most gracious host. She met us when we arrived, and gave us some suggestions as to where to eat, good wineries, and great bike trails. We were not disappointed with the area or with our accommodations, and will be back!

About the host
Hosted by Mary Lee Treter
My husband and I have been vacationing in Traverse City for many years. Doug came up with his family as a child every year growing up and then after we married we brought our children and now they bring their children as well. We have enjoyed many countless hours of Pure Michigan pleasure with our immediate and extended families and now we want to share the beauty of this amazing area with our guests. No matter what the season there is always something for everyone in Traverse City, Michigan.
Why they chose this property
We chose this home on this property because it connects to the family property we vacationed at with our children for so many years. We were blessed to have been given the opportunity to purchase this beautiful piece of heaven on earth 7 years ago and love the peace and quiet it provides.
What makes this property unique
Since purchasing our property we have completely renovated the 'barn' now known as HARRISON'S HIDEAWAY. It has a warm and cozy feeling when you enter and you'll immediately feel calm and relaxed when you look outside at the beauty of nature that surrounds you. Yet you're only minutes away from doing any of your favorite activities like shopping, golfing, snowmobiling, skiing, tubing, biking, fishing, gambling, swimming, boating, sightseeing and so much more! Perfect for a Family Vacation, Girls Getaway, 55+, Honeymoon or Romantic Getaway.
