We built our beautiful family summer home in 1984 and did a full renovation in 2007, making it a wonderfully comfortable place to be year-round. The house was designed by a close family friend and well-known architect (who also designed her own home nearby, and 2 other neighbors' homes), and has hand-hewn post and beam construction with high ceilings, lots of open space and tons of light. The setting is a quiet, serene oasis--with just 3 other houses in the area it feels far removed from the touristy hustle and bustle while still being a short drive from the island's best beaches, shopping and restaurants.
The house has a large first-floor primary suite with a king-sized bed (with a new mattress as of fall 2019); modern, luxury-grade, spacious, and ADA accessible bathroom; and office/sitting area. Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms (one with a queen bed and one with 2 twins) that share a large bathroom with a tub/shower. There is also an upstairs sitting area, which can function as an additional bedroom, with a queen-sized pull-out couch, TV and desk.
The downstairs is very open, and the kitchen, dining room, sun-room and living room all connect, making it an ideal place to spend time with family and friends.
There is an amazing modern kitchen (cook's dream!) fully-equipped with a 5-burner Dacor gas range, 2 Dacor convection wall ovens, a full-sized dishwasher, a large refrigerator as well as a smaller pull-out drawer refrigerator, and tons of counter space (ideal for cooking meals for a group). It is well-stocked with pots, pans, and dishes for large group meals. The dining room table can seat 8 comfortably. There is also a beautiful sun room/family room which has an additional table for informal meals, a large flat-screen TV and lots of space for relaxing.
When we renovated, we upgraded and modernized the entire house and made the downstairs fully ADA wheelchair-accessible--including the kitchen, primary suite and a ramp leading up to the house and deck area. In 2022 we installed 4 energy efficient heat pumps throughout the house (one in each bedroom and another in the main living area) which provides air conditioning throughout the home on warmer days in the summer.
The house has an outdoor shower and a beautiful deck with teak outdoor furniture that overlooks the meadow and wraps around 3 sides of the house. We also have a great Weber Platinum outdoor grill that's connected to the house's gas line.
There is a large yard that is great for kids, soccer/football games and outdoor eating. The house is located next to the bike path that connects the entire central part of the island. Rent includes a walk-on pass to the stunning and family-friendly Lambert's Cove beach that is just a short drive away.
In the peak weeks of summer (July 1-Labor Day) we only can rent on a Saturday to Saturday schedule (7 night minimum) because of the limited availability of cleaners to handle multiple turnovers a week.
*Note for Summer 2025: we are putting the house on the market in late winter 2025. The following showing clause will be in all rental agreements for summer 2025 rentals: "Lessee acknowledges that the property is for sale therefore showings of the property, with a real estate representative, may be required during the tenancy. However, this will be limited to no more than twice a week at a mutually agreeable time and Lessee will be given at least 24 hours notice. If any such showing during your tenancy results in a bona fide offer on the house and property, Lessor will provide Lessee with a cash payment of $500.00."
All rental agreements will be honored in the event of a sale.
