Relaxing Weekend

I was able to book this wonderful abode with short notice. I'm sure that's only because of the time of year. With sunshine in January and an itch to do some hiking this was a perfect location with quick access to the Olympic Discovery Trail and National Park. After a long day of hiking, it was peaceful with the view of the river and hot tub to unwind. It had a large lot with a small, fenced area for my dogs to go out and do their business. The house was well equipped and put off a nice rustic feel. I am looking forward to booking this place again in the future.

Awesome cozy cabin

We loved the cabin. It felt very cozy and the baclyard was beautiful with the river running by. There was a crib already set up for our 4 month old which was nice. The foreplqce was great and the hot tub very relaxing. My only complaint is that the pull out bed was by far the squeekiest peice of furniture i have ever heard. Made it very difficult to sneak out of after my toddler fell asleep. Besides that the place is perfect. could

Amazing place to stay

We really enjoyed our stay here. Everything was amazing. This place was clean, comfortable, and the view of the river, and the property was scenic and lovely. Really enjoyed the hot tub after our activities. We enjoyed a nice fire outside, and the wood was provided as well. Communication was excellent. I’d definitely stay here again.

Top notch!

Very clean and well maintained. Covered deck is amazing with the nicest cleanest grill I have ever seen. Same for the hot tub, which has jets that actually work properly and was critical to relaxing our sore muscles after long days of hiking.

Little slice of peace

We really enjoyed our stay in cedarbreeze. It was especially lovely to sit outside and enjoy the sparkling river, the hot tub, or the hummingbirds. The hot tub was essential after long days of hiking!! We also used the fire pit and appreciated the dry wood on hand. Place was clean and had everything we needed. I would stay here again next time I’m out that way. It’s a great jumping off point for the most popular attractions at ONP.

Beautiful, peaceful get-away from everyday life!

We stayed 2 nights starting on May 9, 2024. We were looking for a peaceful retreat, and this place was it! The Sol Duc River was absolutely beautiful and provided the solitude we desired. Take a chair down by the river and watch for the red-tailed hawk to swoop in for a meal. Bring your binoculars! The weather was perfectly sunny with highs in the upper 60s & lower 70s when we were there. We enjoyed eating our meals on the beautiful back deck that overlooks the river. The bird feeders, including a hummingbird feeder, were nice additions to enjoy the local birds. The cabin was spotless and had everything we needed in the kitchen to make our meals. We used the fan stored in the bedroom closet for white noise to drown out the traffic on Hwy 101. We also found a step stool in that same closet which is very handy for reaching the dishes in the kitchen. The cabin is decorated beautifully and feels like a home, not just a place to rent. The hot tub was perfect after a day of hiking. You will find the light switch for the vanity lights in the bathroom on the outside of the bathroom door, while there is a switch for the fan/light on the inside of the bathroom. This place is somewhat remote, but it was perfect in proximity to all the things on our agenda: sunset & low tide at La Push (Second Beach), Cape Flattery, Sol Duc Falls, and Hoh Rain Forest, which we did the day we left. We recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a peaceful time away!

About the host

Host profile image
We are Ted and Brenda Connely. Brenda grew up in Forks. Ted is from Nebraska but has been here on the Olympic Peninsula since 1976. We were living in Port Angeles when we found the river house. A friend mentioned the property might be available. We bought it and spent every spare moment for the next four years fixing it up. One day in March of 2004 Brenda came back to the cabin from work in Port Angeles carrying Sam the cat, who had been the only one occupying the house in Port Angeles most of the time. 'We live here now,' she announced, 'we're always here anyway.' She got no argument from Ted and so the house in Port Angeles was sold and we became full time residents at the cabin.

Everybody enjoyed life at the cabin, including Sam, but after several long, wet winters we decided to buy a larger home closer to Forks, still on the river but not as special. We couldn't bring ourselves to sell the cabin so we decided to share it with others by turning in into a vacation rental. It has been gratifying to see our guests love it too. So many have told us they don't want to leave at the end of their stay.

Why they chose this property

Even though the property was all grown up with weeds and the house was very run down, we knew at first sight this was our place. The sparkling river running along the edge of the yard, the golden light coming through the trees, just the peaceful feel of the place. Many guests have used the word 'magical' to describe their feelings about the place.

What makes this property unique

We originally bought this property for our own vacation home with no thought of its potential as a vacation rental property. But not only is it a beautiful, relaxing, welcoming spot to stay, it is very handily located within an hour's drive of nearly all the attractions of the northwest section of Olympic National Park. Many guests comment on what a great base camp it is for seeing the park. We have often heard how nice it is to come home to after a day of hiking and exploring to sit by the river, BBQ on the deck, soak in the hot tub, build a fire in the firepit, and sleep in the very comfortable beds.
