True Big Island Spirit

We loved this place that is tucked in on the west facing side with coffee, macadamia, avocado trees amongst other beautiful trees and flowers. So convenient to the beaches, snorkeling, volcano park, and not too far to get supplies or great food. Our hosts Tina and Keri were amazing. Fresh baked muffins (delicious), fresh eggs and fruit grown on their property. A perfect home base away from the crowds in Kona. A big thank you to Tina and Keri. Hope to see you again soon . Our granddaughter loved hanging with the cats and chickens every day and chatting up our hosts every morning. Mahalo

Great location and hosts

Second time staying here and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time. Great hosts!! Plenty of space, great view, cooler weather being uphill a ways from the water. A really nice place to get away and relax. Plus it's just a short drive to great snorkeling.

Great Property Even Better Hosts

What a great place to get away from it all and taste that Aloha spirit! This place is immaculately maintained with a bunch of little extras thrown in. Tina and Keri never slow down and they bring that tireless work ethic to the way they take care of their guests.

Clean, large, beautiful view, kind hosts

This is our second time in Big Island. We knew we want to stay around Captain Cook area because we like to snorkel. We didn’t expect being greeted with the most delicious banana muffins. In addition, Keri and Tina generously share their fruits and eggs from the garden. The animals were all so cute and welcoming (yes including the geckos) - part of the package😊. We had two teen boys with us and the unit are big enough for all of us doing our school and work (at times) at separate spaces. Gratefully yours, CKMW

Excellent location and sweet property

My family of four stayed here for ten days in June 2023. We had a great time all around and enjoyed this space immensely. Tina and Keri are gracious hosts, and we appreciated the homey feel of the place. The property information on the listing is accurate and there were no surprises. I recommend spot if you are looking for simplicity, a laid back feel and excellent proximity to many fun things to do! Fresh fruit, yummy muffins and fresh eggs are an appreciated touch as well!

Friendly, beautiful, serene

Owners welcome is incredible. The home and view are very nice and comfy. We didn’t use the outdoor hot cooking facilities, but had everything we needed for our brief stay. Surprise of homemade muffins, fruit and coffee breakfast was delightful! We were close to amazing snorkeling, and easy access to Kona if/when we wanted. We spent three nights in the Lanai accommodation. - perfect for two. We would definitely book again.

Great Experience

Tina and Keri were fabulous hosts! From the welcoming warm muffins to the fresh fruits and eggs, they were generous and kind. The evening view from the deck can’t be beat! The facility had everything we needed, was clean, and comfortable. The ladies gave us many helpful suggestions as far as activities and dining. It felt like we were leaving good friends when we left. We highly recommend staying here!

Tina and Kerri were fantastic hostesses. They treated us with fresh fruit, and even fresh eggs from their own chickens, besides welcoming us with fresh baked muffins and a fruit plate to die for. The bedroom was quite small, but a sleep number mattress and an adequate closet made very comfortable. I could not check “quiet” because of the loud frog concert every night, but it was a natural sound easily muffled with ear plugs if one chose to do so. Otherwise, the area was very charming and quiet. We loved interacting with their many pets, that were never a nuisance, and enjoyed the landscape around their house, and the daily exchanges about eateries and beaches.

Hawaiian Paradise

Such a sweet spot in South Kona. The property embodies the natural wildness and beauty of the Island. Tina & Kari are excellent, experienced hosts. The added touches of baked goodies, coffee and fruit embody the spirit of aloha. Accommodations are very comfortable and well appointed. Amazing place with the best host

Super clean unit Ultra comfy bed and pillows The host was ultra-sympathic, avalaible and helpful The cats, dogs and chickens were pretty cool as well Muffins were just EPIC !!! The location of this place makes it a really nice spot to relax at the end of your daily activities. We stayed there 2 weeks. We went to many beaches, the volcano, the Mauna Kea Summit and we played golf a lot. We enjoyed coming back before the sunset and relax outside on the lanai and admiring the view. 5 stars says it all !!!

Honored guests

We going coming back! The home was clean and comfortable with all kinds of amenities. We lacked for nothing—beach chairs, mats, towels, snorkeling gear, coolers. Tina and Keri made us feel like honored guests. They shared their farm fresh eggs, papayas, fresh roasted Kona coffee from their property, and other homegrown fruit. It’s true what others said about the amazing warm homemade muffins and generous fruit platter greeting.

Paradise Retreat - South Kona

South Kona Hideaway is truly a paradise retreat. From the start, we were greeted with the most delicious homemade muffins and a fruit plate picked fresh from the surrounding garden. The lanai apartment was spacious, bright, and thoughtfully filled with amenities. Our hosts truly made us feel the Ohana spirit. It was here that we could lounge on the deck, facing the ocean sunset, and not regret skipping a day of tourist sites. Situated in the Captain Cook coffee coast region, it’s close enough to the town attractions & beaches, and far enough to embrace the quiet and friendly neighborhood. And as much as we want to keep this gem our secret, we can’t help but rave about our stay and how much we look forward to returning.

Captain Cook B&B

We really enjoyed our 4 night stay at the South Kona Hideaway in Captain Cook. The place had everything we needed and Tina was happy to chat with us. Our boys loved the beautiful fruit trays she made every morning and we enjoyed the muffins too. From this B&B we snorkeled and kayaked at the monument, went to the green sand beach, enjoyed hidden beaches and the Place of Refuge.. and ate. We love a stop at Monago hotel for home cooking. Annie's had great beer, fries, and onion rings, and we also had a nice dinner at Bianni's up the road towards Kona. I would recommend this place to couples or families with older children. You are in someone's house- so all parents know what that is like. Kids seem 10 times louder than usual.

Wonderful stay

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our South Kona Hideaway experience. The spacious lanai offered a fabulous view. No traffic sounds - only birds and nighttime coqui frogs. The Lanai unit was clean, well equipped and roomy. I enjoyed preparing meals at the outdoor kitchen! So great! The muffins, fresh fruit on arrival and fresh chicken eggs were a bonus. As were the resident kitties - we miss Ditto! Also, we were grateful for all the beach/snorkeling equipment that was available for use. Nothing was lacking! Thank you, Tina, for being an attentive hostess and for being around to answer our questions and to enquire about our day’s activities.

Wonderful first week of our honeymoon - perfect!

We had such an amazing time staying at South Kona Hideaway - it really was the perfect first week of our honeymoon! Very clean and well set up, super comfy bed, everything you could need. Peaceful with the most stunning sunsets to enjoy on the balcony, and then as the sun goes down the frog chorus begins - wonderful! Tina was the perfect host, her homemade muffins were to die for and the tropical fruit platter, freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee beans all from the farm were such a treat. Tina was so helpful with top tips on things to do - we did everything and loved exploring the area. We really did have the most brilliant time and would love to come back one day! I would highly recommend this property. Thank you so much for welcoming us and looking after us so well. Mahalo.

Lovely retreat property

After reading several reviews for this property, my bar was set pretty high. However, it lived up to every expectation. We arrived very late at night to delicious home baked muffins, a lovely fresh fruit tray, fresh orange juice and Kona coffee beans. Every morning we feasted on fresh fruit and eggs from the property. In the house was a comprehensive binder that told us everything about the house and the surrounding area including best beaches, snorkeling locations, places to eat. Tina and Keri were very lovely, generous and gracious hosts. They were there to answer any questions we had and gave us lots of great advice. It was the perfect getaway place for my husband and I.

Peaceful!

A wonderful place to come back to after a day of exploring and adventure. The apartment was spacious and comfortable with a nice large lanai that overlooks a wide variety of tropical trees with a glimpse of the ocean through the trees. The only sounds you hear is the vast amount of birds chirping - it was an amazing chorus to wake up to. The owners were wonderful - booking a manta ray night snorkel for us, providing us with valuable information about the island, and providing an amazing fruit plate with homemade goodies the night before for our morning breakfast. This place is located within a short drive to an extremely good snorkeling area called Honaunau Bay. We were even able to snorkel with spinner dolphins in the morning at this bay. Overall - a great experience here!

Host profile image
After many trips to Hawaii, we finally bought a home and relocated here in 2012 from Colorado. Tina is a retired nurse and Keri is a veterinarian. We have travelled the world in search of the best snorkeling, and this rivals the best. We are willing and happy to help with recommendations, but will otherwise be out of your way.

Why they chose this property

South Kona Hideaway is one of the most relaxing places we've ever stayed. The property is beautiful, the sunsets incredible, and you're only 10 minutes from beautiful live coral and brightly colored fish. Your own lanai and a cocktail... What more could you want?

What makes this property unique

Your continental breakfast will be delivered to your unit the night before and ready when you are. You can get up early or sleep in. You will not have to worry about somewhere to park, or being able to find your way back at night on a one lane jungle road. We are only half a mile off the main highway, on a 'full sized' paved road. Snorkel equipment, beach chairs, and boogie boards are available to borrow during your stay.
