This is a very special place. Old world and rustic, charming, off the beaten path. Weather was strange this week, but when the hurricane veered west we ended with a beautiful weekend. We had a wonderful family time.
Host is wonderful. Cottage was spacious, comfortable with beautiful sunrises and sunsets at the north lighthouse(short distance from cottage by bike/jog/walk/car).
We will be back. Loved our stay!
You couldn’t find a better location and rental on BI than this. The house has everything you could possibly need and a great outdoor area with a picnic table, grill and outdoor shower. The location is amazing: just a short walk down a picturesque trail to a stunningly beautiful beach and you have it basically all to yourself.
This 1700's cottage is no frills, which for us, worked perfectly. It is private with an ideal location; within 10 minutes to one of the most beautiful rock/sand beaches we've experienced.
Authentic Block Island aesthetic and personality of the home, grounds, and property manager Chris, who made the stay easy, accommodating and trouble free.
Very old school beauty of a home. Property was peaceful and beautiful, woodsy but not far from town. Deer and pheasant in yard each morning and close to town. Perfect and idyllic, like a step back in time.
The house is very rustic, but it is tucked away in a nice little piece of property. Our dogs had plenty of room to run around. The owner was very attentive and we enjoyed the fresh honey and honey mustard very much. Don't go if you are expecting the Hilton, but if you want a unique experience, this is for you.
Charming antique home in quiet location near nature trail to beach
Charming and interesting historic home, with all the necessities. Appreciate the heads up about steep stairs, low ceilings upstairs. The full size bed upstairs had some complaints. The best part of being here was the homeyness, quiet, and being a nice walk to a gorgeous rocky beach.
We had a crew in for Block Island Raceweek. One bath is a challenge with a large group, but the kitchen and beds worked great (you need to be fairly athletic to get up stairs/ladder to upstairs bedrooms). Big yard and nice secluded property. Chris was quick to respond and helpful.

Summer trip
Pros- Very quiet setting. Private grounds and tree filled. Property near beach. Lots of plates, pots and pans and utensils. It would have been helpful to have a non stick pan, paper towels and white kitchen garbage bags though. Very good propane grill.
Cons- extremely buggy inside the house. Front door screen door does not close, so it was either buggy or hot. Window screens had lots of gaps, filled with paper towel bits and duct tape. Toilet leaked a bit at base. The stairs up to 3 of the bedrooms are very steep, without handrail. These rooms are not appropriate at all for older folks or very young children. One person in our party slid down the staircase, no, not alcohol related. Needs repair.
Wonderful place, a reminder of a time long ago; tranquil solitude far from the crowds. The view of the stars & sky are spectacular here; and the quiet serenity is so relaxing. We absolutely love the embrace of the property’s nostalgic energy…

Wonderful location. Peaceful. Too many bugs.
Taking our dog to walk the the trail to the water was a highlight every morning. The old house is rustic and we expected that - but the bugs were a real drag. And we never got our honey 😕. Full disclosure- we did not contact the owner about the bugs during our stay so this is not to say we complained and nothing was done. However, by the end of the week I wished I had said something because my patience was shot. My son said his 2nd floor bedroom was “a damn ecosystem. “ Functional but no frills.
Lovely location close to Clayhead trails and Mansion Beach with easy access to hiking, biking and all the island's charms. The house itself is exactly as listed - we had 6 adults for a week and all were comfortable. The host is wonderfully hospitable and available as needed. Great property, too.
This was our second time at this rental and we had another fabulous time. The location can’t be beat… located right on the Clayhead Trail! Short walk to the beach and away from the crowds in town. Nice spacious yard with trees for shade that keep it nice and cool. Excellent communication from owner via text.
After bring hunkered down for months w/ the pandemic, a week at this sanctuary was a treat. Chris was very responsive to our questions and needs. The house was clean as a whistle and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The location can't be beat - tucked away on the trail to Clayhead (our favorite hike). We'll be back!
Chris's house was perfect for our stay. The simple little farm house is located off of a dirt road and far from the hustle and bustle of the island. The house was simple, but was everything we needed. It was extremely clean, comfortable and well equipped. At night, all you can hear is the ocean in the distance. It has a couple of big comfy sofa's. Comfortable beds. A very well equipped kitchen with nice cookware and gas stove made it easy to cook. (Albeit no dishwasher). So happy to have a big washer and dryer in the house as well. It was a bit cold when we were there and the house has a super efficient heater. The stairwells are small and steep, but actually we just used the downstairs bedroom. There is a nice sunny yard to sit in. The house is right by the islands best walking trails and a walk to a gorgeous rocky beach. Thanks Chris, for such a lovely stay!
We just returned from a week in this fabulous house. House was clean and cozy. Owner was easily accessible via text. Location can’t be beat...on the road to Clayhead trail and far from the crowds in town. Lots of shade in the lovely front yard and it was always nice and cool. We would recommend this house and would love to return.
Littlefields have farmed the island since 1690 and this property was originally a Littlefield homestead built in 1720. We have lived year round on the island for over 30 years and bought this property to enjoy the privacy and raise our honeybees. Chris has worked as a conservationist with The Nature Conservancy preserving the island's open space for over 20 years. We have harvested our Block Island wildflower honey since 1984. Both children were raised here.
Why they chose this property
We love the shady serenity here in the summer. It seems to be about 10 degrees cooler here than in town and the trees are remarkable. Walking to beach without having to find a parking place, taking an outside shower, sitting under the maples, napping in the shade, grilling while the kids run in the yard, gazing at the stars…these are all the things we love about our property in the summer.
