Just what the Dr ordered

Myself and 8 good friends recently stayed here and it was everything we needed and more. We didn't fish much, but the trout were there if that's what you are coming for. Expect to see beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the mountain tops. The cabins are spaced out well and we had more than enough room for the 9 of us inside the cabin. I can't wait to book it again with my family. Thank you Deirdre for letting us stay in your beautiful cabin!

Trophy Trout

Cabin was wonderful! Very spacious and clean. Beds were great and deck overlooks the river. I loved the huge yard. We live on land so having this space was nice. We plan to return in warmer weather and play sports in the yard and fish our hearts out. The trout were the largest my husband has ever caught.

Great Stay on the Toccoa River

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Deidre’s place. The house was just as advertised. We loved the open field and the porches and decks - our dogs had a blast running around the property! We love to hike so this place was perfect for us. Within 15 minutes we were able to hike many trails that were challenging which is exactly what we wanted. The drive to the Living Waters winery was easy and we loved it so much we went twice! The house was clean, well stocked with the essentials and the host’s communication prior to our arrival was perfect. She made sure I knew the house was not close to Blue Ridge and I told her we knew that and were looking to be in the forest and close to hiking. We will definitely book here again and enjoy the summer on the River.

Fantastic stay in Suches

Just returned from a wonderful trip to the mountains! Deirdre was responsive, helpful, and gracious in getting our crew to Suches. We loved being *directly* on a trout stream, with adults and kids both hooking several fish. It was a treat to fish the morning, and walk back a few steps to breakfast and coffee. Really the stuff of dreams for a young family!

Over Bearing

Properties location to the Toccoa River is why we rent this cabin, the owners checked with us everyday , Once to inform us about a HOA rule we hadn't broken, next day to check on why we had a friend drop by and to tell us not to sublet property or to allow public access ( we had done neither ) 3rd day when we arrived from kayaking, they were there doing lawn maintenance at 4:30 PM , they did ask us if they could continue , which I said yes. We will rent again even though owners are very watchful and a little dsconcerting. We rented this same cabin 2023, Owners were very watchful then as well.

cellphone free

We enjoyed our stay. There is definatly no cell service(as advertised), so no calls were able to be made, but WIFI was adequate so you wereen't totally disconnected The house is a little noisey(lots of creeking and squeaking floors and not very soundproof, but very relaxing and enjoyable. Unfortunatly 1/2 our group got pretty sick for the last half of the week so that kind of through a wrench into things. That was not the houses fault though, so can't blame it. It may be that we were able to relax so much after such stressfull times that it caught up to us.

A wonderful vacation home!

We recently stayed at this lovely cabin with a small group from our church. The cabin was spotless and well-appointed-- even to the small details of marshmallow toasting forks, cozy blankets, and extra spices left in the pantry for guests. The setting is very quiet and peaceful and the sound of the river was so relaxing from the screened porch and swing. The fire pit and picnic area are lovely. There is plenty of seating everywhere to accommodate a group. The owner was so gracious and easy to work with. We absolutely would recommend this home to anyone.

A great mountain escape

The house was lovely and had everything we needed for a fun family vacation. The river behind the house was fun to tube and fish in. The fire pit was convenient and relaxing. The large yard around the house was fun to play in, and the hot tub was clean and a nice escape from the bugs. The house is very creaky and you can hear EVERYTHING happening upstairs. The wood floors don't offer much insulation to noise. The kitchen is well stocked and large enough for two families to gather and eat. Bring your own tubes, fishing poles, bait, firewood, charcoal, bug spray and you'll have a blast at this remote cabin.

Great home for the price

The property is nice and secluded, but is about 25+ from everything. The owners reached out personally to ensure we had everything we needed before checking in. We loved the home and was able to sleep our large family comfortably. Any issues we had were addressed immediately. Cleaning seemed short-cut a little. Very dusty areas with lots of buildup. Was disappointed there was no access to laundry. Overall, we would probably stay here again for the price and size.

Family Trip

Every year we rent a place so we can have time with our family. We have a small family. Only 9 of us total. We love to get away from the hustle of everyday life. This home was perfect as far as the size of the home. We all had plenty of room and everyone had a bed. The kitchen is well stocked as well. Just one thing to be aware of when renting this home. There are several HOA rules to follow. We primarily go to spend the day fishing with our children and grandchildren. In this subdivision you are only allowed to fish half (1/2) the River and ONLY on the actual property owned by the homeowner. For clarification you cannot go past the property line and you can only cast right to left and not across the creek/river. The way I understood it is that the homeowners own 1/2 of the river frontage and only on their side of the river. When we vacation usually all 9 of us are fishing all day long. We only had one (from our family) fish while at the house. This is no reflection on the owner or the home. They have no control over the HOA restrictions. We did drive to a different location so that the entire family could fish Saturday morning. Every morning and evening we could sit and watch the deer graze in the front yard with their little ones. Several sets of newborn twins fawns to watch play around. The homeowners are very kind and we appreciate them allowing us to stay in their home.

About the host

Host profile image
Being a fourth generation Floridian the mountains have always been a source of wonderment for me. I have many fond memories of summer vacations with my family camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Appalachians. The cool crisp air, winding mountain roads, rushing crystal clear streams, and lush flora were a refreshing contrast to the Florida heat.
When my work brought me to Atlanta two decades ago I was delighted to discover the mountains a short two hours away. Unlike the Carolinas, the Georgia mountains are still relatively undiscovered by tourists. My retirement goal is to trade the hustle and bustle of Atlanta for the quiet unspoiled beauty of the north Georgia mountains. This mountain cabin represents a promise to myself that someday that dream will come true.

Why they chose this property

The Chattahoochee National Forest is where the Appalachian mountain range begins and is the one true mountainous area in North Georgia. Its edges are dotted by quaint mountain towns like Blue Ridge, Blairsville, Dahlonega, and Helen, but the only civilization inside the forest is the community of Suches. With ten wilderness areas and six wildlife management areas most of the forest is unspoiled and is as wild as when the Cherokee Indians roamed. For a nature lover the natural beauty and abundant wildlife that encompass Suches are about as close to heaven as you can get on this earth.

What makes this property unique

The Riverlands Lodge sits 50 feet from the Toccoa River which is one of the premier trout streams of Georgia. This stretch of the Toccoa is privately owned and heavily stocked offering excellent fly fishing opportunities. The cabin is nestled in a small river valley surrounded by mountains offering a 360 degree panoramic view. Herds of deer regularly graze in the open fields while wild ducks, herons, and beavers can been found along the river bank.
Growing up I wanted to be a Forest Ranger so I have added all the amenities to the property that make it feel like you have your own private park. There is a picnic pavilion on the riverfront with an in-ground charcoal grill, and a rustic fire ring surrounded by benches to roast your hotdogs and marshmallows. Horse shoes can be played while the picnic is being prepared.
While I enjoy the outdoors I also like to be comfortable so the cabin is setup with all the amenities needed to enjoy your time inside as well. The cabin was built to be a family home so it has a spaciousness needed to accommodate a variety of people. The four bedrooms are separated to afford privacy to each bedroom making it ideal for family reunions.

I thoroughly enjoy the simple beauty of Suches, and this cabin puts you in the middle of the very best of it. I am proud to offer my guests the chance to share this experience and hope they find Suches as heavenly as I do.
